Globalization of SportsSports played its vital part to unified Nations, bring

integrity and harmony leads to a positive image of any particular Nation at global level.

E.g. Women’s soccer world cup finals (Japan VS USA),When Nation is passing through devastating situations, Japan women soccer team won the world cup final through penalty Kicks by 3-1 to give hope to the people of Japan to never give up.

Nelsen Mandela used South African Rugbi team to unite their Nation, Mandela’s mission is to provide “One Team, One Country and Won Victory”

Athleticism and sporting games are universally dimension of culture.

Sports evolves from different types of entertainment activities, exercises, fencing, archery, jousting tournaments, cultural nobility, various forms of folk games etc.

Sports as part of globalization:• Global audience share common experiences through global

broadcasting.• There are hundreds of International sporting associations

that contributes billions of dollars.• Sports are become important expression of National Identity.

Sports as complex mixture of Cultural, Politics and commercial Intrest

Various factors that prompted the development and spread of organized sports:– Industrialization.– The concentration of people towards urban areas,

provides a Pool of potential participants.– Development of global rationalization with standardized

folk games according to some rules and regulations.– Formation of National and International associations,

provide legitimacy and identity to the sport. – Mass production of goods and technology.– The sport celebrity as a figure of Admiration.

International competitions

In 1918, tennis match between France and Britain was reportedly the first international match followed by Cricket match between Canada and USA.The first true Global sports was initiated without the benefit of national and international organization was ‘BOXING’.The first International tournament was played in 1878 including tennis players from Canada, US and England.

International AssociationsEngland is the first country to establish National sports organization back in 1870. that was the era when most of the sports organizations get started.The follow-up of standardize rules and sponsors, defined hierarchy, qualification of players and record keeping. Formation of International Olympics committee in 1894 was the most important step towards the standardization of sports in all across the world.Now there are 70 International sports organizations all over the world, e.g. International Cricket council (ICC)

Now Sports became a proper pattern to show the spirit of game in particular manner.

Global Migration of Sports Labor

Migration of professional sports persons to other countries that makes the sports competition more intense.

– E.g. UAE cricket board contract with Pakistan and Indian born players to their national side.

– Imran Tahir migrates from Pakistan to south Africa and now he is representing south Africa in all three formats of cricket.

– Usman Khawaja represents Australia who also migrated from Pakistan.

– England’s T20 captain ‘Eoin Morgan’ represented two countries (England and Ireland).

– Different football clubs hired many foreign players.

Sports and Particular Identity

Sports is the platform through which, nations and individuals presents their selves, the character of their nation’s Identity with the courtesy of their

achievements.

Revival of Traditional sports

Rationalize local sports; when broadcasters show these sports world wide.

E.g. Kabbadi, Judo, Marshal Arts etc.

Sports also provide us the way to compete our political, cultural and economic rivals.

Sports CelebritiesThe discussion of sports would not be completed without considering sport celebrities.Sports personalities has their strong influence worldwide. The concept of trading cards with sports was started in 1887..

• Sports is big business, A global Industry.• Commoditized market place for players and

teams for TV coverage. E.g. Players drafting in PSL, BPL etc.

• Countries spend billions of dollars to revive their sports activities and compete the world at global level.

• Investment of multinational companies as cooperative sponsors.
