GPS CURRICULUM METHODOLOGY

AIM: To allow players of all ages and abilities, to develop to their full potential, in an ENJOYABLE, CHALLENGING and POSITIVE environment. OBJECTIVES:• Create a clear and simple pathway for player development.

• Always keep the player at the centre of the development process.

• Allow players as much active time with a ball each as possible.

Set up/Rules20x20 yard area with 1 mini-goal. 10-12 players with ball, 3-4 without ball. White has to take the ball away from red and shot to the goal. Red player without the ball, stays inside the box to help his team-mates. Switch white players when they � nish.

Set up/Rules15x15 yard box (set up 2 if you need it). 1 ball per player. Chasing game, 1 player has to tag with the pinnie the other players and than switch role. We’re going to cause the other players dribble and turn and manipulate the ball much faster, under pressure.

Coaching Points:- Keep the ball close - Dribble with your head up, scanning the area- Use pull backs and L turns to change direction

Progression- Get as many orange or green cone as you can.- Picking up just orange or green, depending on what the coach call.- Stop the ball next to a cone, leave it there and go and � nd another ball (switch balls)

Progression- Each player has to � nd a partner and do it holding hands. Tagging players just use 1 ball, instead if 2.- Set up 2 or 4 small boxes where player can be safe. If other player gets in the box, previous one has to get out.

Progression- Dribble with sole part (rolling over)- L turn each time you change direction- Di� erent skills going back to the line (toe taps, foundations, toe taps backwards, scissors...)

Progression- Red players without the ball are out.- Add more white players.- Allow red players to get the ball back from the goal but count how many goals white teams gets during 2-3 min.

Set up/RulesPlayers make a circle around the coach or a cone if you have to make more than 1 circle. 4 boxes with 4 di� erent colours around the circle. Players have to start dribbling with the sole part clockwise till the coach calls a colour and they have to get that box ASAP.

Coaching Points- Keep the ball close - Dribble with your head up, scanning the area- Let them realise which is the fastest way to turn and go into the box.

Set up/Rules4 lines of players that perfom the same circuit at the same time, to create a moment where the two players bump into and have to avoid each other. 360º turn in the � rst cone and zig-zag till get the opposite line.

Coaching Points- Keep the ball close - Dribble with your head up, to avoid the player in front of you- Change direction with right foot if you’re going to the right and use left if you’re going to the left.

Set up/Rules2 7x7 yard boxes with 1 cone in the middle and one players on each space. 4 outside players waiting to switch.Players must dribble right-left-center and back to the middle and than switch.Focus on the change of direction with the sole part.You can set up cones behing the outside player to perfom footwork while waiting.

Coaching Points:- Keep the ball close - Dribble with your head up, scanning the area- Change direction as quick as possible

Progression- Dribble counter-clockwise- Dribble just with your weaker foot- Dribble backwards- Get the box, do 5 toe taps and go back to the circle- Last player that gets into the box is out

Progression- Change direction with the ball in front of you.- Change direction with the ball behind you.- Use the opposite foot of the direction you are going to turn.- Use just inside part of your feet- Create a competition between two groups

Progression- Turn around the cone- Turn stopping the ball just in front of the cone- Change the distribution of cones to create new turnings- Create a competition between two teams Red and White

Progression- Double goal if your team score after more than 5 passes.

Set up/RulesTwo small goals, one small box with 2 balls in the middle and 2 gates. Players must run with the ball into the box, stop this and switch it for one of the others, take that and shoot before crossing the gate in the opposite goal. Set up two areas if it’s needed

Progression- Double goal if your team score after from your half to the other instead of getting there passing the ball.

Set up/Rules15x15 yard box with plenty of cones in-side. Players are dribbling around looking for empty cone where ejecute a 1v1 move.

Create as many boxes as you need with 6-8 players in each one.

Let the players be creative and pratice di� erent moves. Encourage them to try new things.

Coaching Points- Keep the ball close - Dribble with your head up, scanning the area to know where is the empty cone.- After ejecute the move change direction as quick as possible

Set up/Rules1v1 competition. Defender pass to attacker who has to get the opposite end zone.

Coaching Points-Speed of approach- Keep the ball close to make the move.- Dribble with your head up to be aware how is the defender positioning- Change direction as quick as possible after the dribbling.

Set up/RulesOne line in front of another one. The players must drive till � nd the perfect timing to dribble in the same way, so one will go right and the other left. Use: Scissor right/left, double scissor, roulette and roll over+ step over.

Coaching Points:- Timing- Keep the ball close- Accelerate after the dribbling

Progression- Show them moves and combination like: Double scissor, roullette, elastico, dragging+scissor...- When the coach call “Switch” everybody have to switch box, the last one has to show us a new trick.

Progression- Previous touches before dribbles with the sole part- Add 2 cones on the side so when they are going to the line have to dribble in the other side that they did before.

Progression- Switch roles Attacking - Defending- After 5min, attacker who has more point moves to the next level to compete against other defenders.

Progression- Double goal if your team scores after 1v1 situation in the opposite half.

Set up/RulesDistance depends on the level. Passing combination: #1 ->2-> 3-> 4. Players rotate clockwise each 2 min. You can adapt numbers adding 1-2 more players per cone.

Coaching Points- Proper weight and accuracy of passing.- Keep the ball on the ground- Open body shape to receive with the sole part- Counter-movement (set to receive)- Communication (eye contact)

Set up/RulesDistance depends on the level. #1 pass to 4, 4 pass back to 2 who pass into the space for 3 . Then the ball starts in 4 to do the same passing combina-tion but in the opposite way. Players do the rotation on their right. If the level is low, avoid the rotation in each play, and switch each 2min.

Coaching Points- Proper weight and accuracy of passing.- Keep the ball on the ground- Open body shape to receive with the sole part- Counter-movement (set to receive)- Communication (eye contact)

Set up/Rules4 players in each drill. Distance depends on the level.Pass and follow. Passing triangle com-bination to support your teammate .#1 pass to 2 - 2 pass to 3 - 3 pass to 1 (who has occupaid the middle spot).You can adapt numbers to add more players, but do it without rotation.

Coaching Points- Open body shape to kick the ball- Lean your body forward in order to get a good high.- Kick the ball in the middle- Take a quick look at the goal before shooting.

Set up/RulesDistance depends on the level. Split into two teams, starting either side of the cones. First player in the line dribbles the ball down the channel and perform a fake & take move through the gate to then shoot for goal.

Coaching Points:- Keep ball close to allow change of direction- Accelerate after last change of direc-tion- Big touch through gate to allow quick shot- Look for top or bottom corners

Progression- Change footwork each time all players � nish- Pass/shot with weaker foot- Compete against the other groups.

Progression- Race: First player to score gains a point for their team- Try toe surface to shoot as a good resource in Futsal

Progression- Add pinnies on the top corners and cones on the bottom corners to improve accuracy and get points.

Progression- Add two mini-goals on both halfs where the team can score with a 1st touch � nish.

Set up/RulesUndestanding of wall pass. Distance among lines depend on the level. Player with the ball dribbles till cones (simu-late defender), pass and receives to pass forward again. The same sequence starts again from the other side. Check how players rotate.

Coaching Points- Timing: - to give and go - to pass into the space and don’t delay the run- Proper weight and accuracy of passing- Speed of ejecution

Set up/Rules7x7 yard area with two end zones. 1v1+1. Create a competition with di� erent levels. To get a point has to dribble into the end zone and stop the ball. Change the role each 2’ (defender, attacker, neutral).

Coaching Points:- Keep your head up to see your team-mate and defender moves- Use wall pass principals from the last drill.- Decision making: pass or dribble? depending on the defender

Progression- Change the cones for one real defender and rotate this each 1 min.

Progression- Add one mini-goal on each side with cone to score instead of dribble through the end zone.

Progression- Mix up colour and number combinations

Progression- Split the � eld into 2 halfs. Two attackers of the team without possession cannot defend, to create a 4v2 situation- After 15’’ of play, if the team with possession hasn’t scored, another defender comes in 4v3.

Set up/Rules32x40 yard area with a goal at each end.Split into two teams with each team starting in opposite corners of the area.Coach will have four colour cones. (Red, Blue, Orange, Yellow) Each team must associate a colour with a number (e.g... red = 3) They will not tell the other team which colour they associate with which number, meaning both teams should be di� erent. When coach holds up that colour cone, the number associated with that colour for each team is the amount of players who can enter the playing area.This will create random games of any combination. For example:2v3, 4v1, 3v3.Coaching Points- Decision making depending on the situation- Comunication with your teammates
