OVERVIEW The Goose Creek CISD Career Academies are small learning communies within larger campuses that focus on a career theme. Academy students take classes as a cohort and remain together over their high school experience. Limited to 50-75 students per grade level, academies provide students the opportunity to aend classes with other students with similar interests. Academic classes integrate the career theme into assignments and projects may span across mulple classes. Students learn from a rigorous curriculum, including advanced courses, career-oriented courses, and college and career learning opportunies directly related to the career theme. Enrichment acvies that help students learn more about college and career opportunies are provided each semester and culminate in a senior capstone experience that may include internships, praccums, mentoring or other career-based experience. Students aend academic and career classes that are taught by a team of teachers who work together to improve student engagement and success. This team of teachers meet regularly to discuss student success as well as targeted student needs in order to build a family of support for the students. All 8th grade students may apply to any of the Goose Creek Academies regardless of the high school to which they are zoned. The district provides transportaon to each of the academies for all students. Students are eligible for the extra-curricular acvies that are available at each of the high schools and also may parcipate in the career and technical student organizaon connected to their curriculum. GLOBAL BUSINESS ACADEMY AT GOOSE CREEK MEMORIAL HS Career Cluster Focus: Business Management and Administration

Endorsement: Business & Industry

Description: Students in the Global Business Academy complete highly rigorous

business courses designed to prepare students for post-secondary

Business Degrees. Much like a college business administration

major, students take at least one business class per semester.

Students also take additional career courses in their own area of

interest or courses to prepare them for university level courses.

HEALTH SCIENCE ACADEMY AT ROSS S. STERLING HS Career Cluster Focus: Health Science

Endorsement: Public Services

Description: Working with the same equipment and tools used by lab professionals, PLTW Biomedical Science students are empowered to explore and find solutions to some of today’s most pressing medical challenges. Through activities that connect learning to life, students step into the roles of biomedical science professionals and investigate topics including human medicine, physiology, genetics, microbiology, and public health. Students work together in teams to find unique solutions, and in the process, learn in-demand, transferable skills like critical thinking and communication.
