360º OF PROSPECTINGThe art of making friends and serving their needs.As a professional networker you should invite friends and prospects to sample a product, review a tool or attend a fun event like a shake party. Your aim should NOT be to pitch people while razzling and dazzling them with your knowledge and expertise.

To become effective at prospecting you must first develop the A ,B,C’s of a proper and healthy mindset:

All in Bold ChaseYou must be committed to your business and “ALL IN” otherwise you’ll never achieve the success you are pursuing. If you’re just testing the waters your prospect may sense it and will not take you seriously.

You must be bold, passionate and energetic about your cause and mission. People are naturally drawn to people who are positive and energetic. It’s important to posture yourself in a confident and positive manner. Be yourself, but focus on being your best self!

DON’T chase people. We’re not hunters or sharks! Simply take a genuine interest in getting to know people. As you make friends, your mission is to make the world a better place by offering solutions to people’s needs, wants or don’t wants.

If you have an attitude of desperation not only will you drive people away, but you’ll also be miserable in the process. Become a professional at asking questions and genuinely getting to know people while building relationships.

You shouldn’t be discouraged by NO’s when you consider there are over 7 billion people on this planet many of whom have needs and they’re just waiting for you to reach out. With every NO you’re one closer to a YES!

Prospecting-People You Know

The best place to start prospecting is within your own circle of influence, talking to the people you already know. People buy people first, and the great thing about talking to friends is that they already trust and respect you.

Imagine that a good friend invites you over to their place for dinner or just to hang out. (This can also be done over the phone if you can’t arrange a time to meet in person.)

[Prospect]

[You] How have you been?

[Prospect] I’ve been good, how about you?

[You] Feeling great! I have been taking care of my health with these great products I discovered and now my energy is through the roof!

[Prospect] What kind of products?

[You] The company is called NeoLife. They make whole food based nutrition supplements that are super high quality. What sold me was all of the respected doctors & scientists who researched and developed these products. Do you take any supplements?

As you keep your ears tuned you’ll begin to hear people express their needs that our products can fill. Below is a scenario you’ll encounter in some variation almost daily.

Imagine that you’re sitting in a waiting area, standing in a grocery line, working out at the gym or watching the kids play at the park and you strike up a conversation.

NOTE: As soon as you uncover a need don’t jump at the first chance to tell them all about your products. You’ll only chase them away. Instead be patient and ask another question or two to get more information about their health concern(s). During this process of discovery you’ll bond with them while at the same time establishing their need for a solution. As you become a professional at this you’ll find that in many cases they will buy on the spot or at least give you their contact info or agree to sample a product. Your job is to be a counselor or an educator, but certainly not a slick sales person.

[Prospect] Yea, I’m always exhausted after work.

[You] Really, how long have you been experiencing this?

[Prospect] Several years now and it’s only getting worse.

[You] Wow, I can only imagine how frustrating that must be. Have you ever tried anything to help your fatigue?

[Prospect] I tried energy drinks and other caffeinated drinks.

[You] How is that working for you?

[Prospect] At first it helped but then I ended up just feeling jittery and weird from all the unhealthy ingredients.

[Prospect] Doing all right, just a little stressed.

[You] What do you mean by that? (Continue to ask questions to discover what they like and dislike about their job.) Do you keep an open mind to other career opportunities?

[Prospect] Sure, why do you ask?

[You] Well, the international company I work with is undergoing a large expansion in this market and we’re looking for some quality individuals who are (good with people, hard working, outgoing, health conscious, fitness minded, etc.)

[Prospect] Really, what’s the name of the company?

[You] NeoLife, it’s an international company in the health and wellness industry since 1958.

[Prospect] So what does your company do?

[You] We’re going through a huge expansion as we roll out a premier Wellness Club across North America. We offer a complete line of nutritional supplements as well as health and fitness coaches to help people achieve their health, fitness and weight-loss goals.

Listen, I need to run but I’d be happy to schedule a time to sit down and tell you more about what we’re doing and discuss whether or not you’d be a fit for our company.

[Prospect] Absolutely, sounds interesting.

[You] Great, when is the earliest you could meet for coffee or something?

[Prospect] I could meet this Wednesday at 9 am.

[You] I can make that work. Listen, I have a busy schedule so if something comes up please be sure to let me know.

NOTE: You always want to be in a hurry at the end of your conversation. People are attracted to people who are professional, and have a lot going on and NOT desperate. When you’re in a hurry there will be fewer questions, less resistance, and people will be more respectful of you and your time. Also, the take away always builds more interest.

This is your business so you choose who you want to work with. Naturally, you want to build your team with bright and positive people so keep your eyes open for these individuals while in the course of your normal day to day activities.

When you find these individuals offer a sincere compliment (and it must be sincere). When you’re in a hurry and offer a sincere compliment it’s rare for a person to have a negative reaction to your invitation. People always receive feedback when they’ve made a mistake, but rarely hear compliments when they’re doing something right. It feels good and puts a smile on their face. Regardless of the outcome you’ll also feel good because you made someone’s day a little brighter!

[You] Great, what’s your favorite flavor of shake – chocolate, berry or vanilla? What’s a good time to give you a call to get your feedback?

[Prospect] Tomorrow after 6 pm.

[You] So if I call you tomorrow after 6 pm you’ll have tried the product and read the brochure for sure?

[Prospect] Yes.

3. Closing with Prospecting Tool

[You] If I gave you a website (or video, CD, brochure, magazine, special invitation only webinar, special invitation only conference call) would you look at it?

[Prospect] Yes.

[You] When do you think you could check it out for sure?

NOTE: Rather than suggesting a time, patiently wait for their response. This will help them think twice about their schedule and when they can actually review the tool and provide feedback instead of politely agreeing without making a conscious decision to follow through. If they shy away from making a firm commitment by saying something like, “I’ll do it sometime”, then politely say, “I don’t want to waste either of our time so why don’t we lock down a specific date that you can view it by”.

TIP #1: “If I... then will you?”

Getting a commitment from your prospect to do something in exchange for the value you are offering has proven to be highly effective.

It allows you to remain professional, while also showing the value of what you have to offer.

When some people get started they tend to make the mistake of begging and trying to convince others to value our products or business opportunity. Through this approach you will learn to posture yourself in a professional manner without ever sounding desperate.

TIP #2: The Triple Opt-In

You probably noticed in the previous scripts that prospects triple opt-in. This means, verbally committing three times to doing what you’ve asked of them. With the triple opt-in your chances of the prospect actually following through and reviewing your tool goes from about 5% to closer to 80%.

Did you catch it? The first time was when you said, “If I would you ” and the second time when they chose a deadline to review it by and the third was when you confirmed the time!

Remember there are no failures in this business only learning experiences. If you’re prospecting a stranger chances are good that you’ll never see them again unless they join your business. Relax and with time you’ll discover that you’ve expanded your comfort zone and built some incredible friendships along the way!
