Revive — A Renewal of Patriotism
Text: I Peter 2:11-15 As Peter wrote to the Christians scattered throughout the Roman Empire, he advised them on how they were to live out tier dual roles as residents in an earthly country, and citizens of the heavenly kingdom. By studying Peter’s advice to the believers in his day, we learn some important truths for our lives as Christian-Americans today. I. Our _______________ with This Country “strangers and pilgrims” (vs. 11) A. We are ____________
B. We are ____________
II. Our ______________ in This Country “fleshly lust...honest” (vs. 11,12) A. We should be ____________
B. We should be ____________
III. Our ______________ to This Country “submit….put to silence” (vs. 13-15) A. We Respect the ____________
B. We Respect the ____________
America’s only home is Jesus Christ. The only way Jesus Christ can help America is through those citizens in America that know Him, and live for Him. One day we will permanent-ly transfer our citizenship for pa place in the kingdom of Heaven. Until that day, we must fulfill our roles as Christian-Americans.
What kind of citizen do you portray? There is grace and strength for that stage!
A God Blessed Nation
Proverbs 3:33, “The curse of the Lord is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just.” In 1938, as the Nazis continued to build their military might, and the clouds of war loomed darker over Europe, Irving Berlin brought out a song he had first written in 1918 but then set aside. Sung by Kate Smith on an Armistice Day radio broad-cast, “God Bless America” quickly became a national favorite. The introduction to the lyrics refers to the song as “a solemn prayer.” But it is important for us to remember that this prayer can only be answered in the context of our national behavior. We cannot expect God to bless our nation unless we are willing to be a righteous nation. When the government is working in obedience to God’s design to reward good and punish evil, there is a positive impact on the entire society and a basis for seeking God’s blessing. The psalmist wrote in Psalm 33:12, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.” Those of us who love God and believe His Word have a special responsibility as citizens. Though this world is not our home, and our ultimate loyalty must always be to the eternal, we have also been commanded in Philippians 2:15 to “shine as lights in the world.” Paul wrote those words to a church born from persecution by an unrighteous government. One of the first members of that church was the jailor who was converted when Paul and Silas were freed from his prison by an earthquake. These people realized that the evil of their government and their society did not excuse them from doing right; it made it even more important that they follow God’s commands. As we see our nation turning its back on God, it is more important than ever that we take a stand for right and truth. May churches like ours “stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel” Philippians 1:27. Determine to be a God Blessed Christian, leading your family to be a God Blessed family, serving the Lord in a God blessed church, so that He will bless our nation once again.
