In the late-1960s, Joseph Gerber inventedthe revolutionary GERBERcutter whichautomatically cut large amounts of materi-al with a computer-controlled knife. Thefirst GERBERcutter, used by General Motorsfor over 20 years to cut seating materials,has been on display in Washington D.C. atthe Smithsonian Institute’s NationalMuseum of American History.
