GCCS No Transportation Zones
Update: 2018-19 School Year
Goal
• To align and update GCCS “No Transportation Zones” Or NTZ’s
Why?
• Fairness: We seek to establish consistent NTZ’s at all schools.
• Flexibility: We need the flexibility to move some routes to a 2 run system, allowing time to get students to River Valley and our elementary schools.
• Fiscal Responsibility: At a time when some districts look to eliminate all transportation services because of budget cuts, GCCS is being fiscally proactive, positioning the district to continue transportation services for those who do not live in an NTZ
• Fitness: Research supports that when parents enable students to walk/ ride a bike to school, they are healthier, calmer and more alert
Is this new?
• No. This is not a change in GCCS policy. NTZ’s have been in place for a long time in GCCS.
No Transportation Zone Guidelines
Many Districts: • Elementary: 1 mile• Middle School: 1.5 miles• High School: 2 miles
• GCCS: 1 mile for ALL schools.

* Reasons for no established NTZ is commonly due to lack of infrastructure such as sidewalks or students cannot cross multiple lane busy streets.
Proposed Jeff High Flex 1 mile NTZ
As of the 2017-2018 school
year, there are approx. 160
students who will be directly
affected by the proposed
expansion of the NTZ zone.
With the implementation of the expanded NTZ, this would
give us the ability to eliminate three
runs and condense two
additional runs.
This will free up the mentioned buses to help
alleviate timing issues at
River Valley.

How will I know if I live in a NTZ?
• Transportation will determine all students residing in the newly established JHS NTZ.
• Transportation will work with Erin Bojorquez to communicate with the affected students/families.
Can I just find the nearest bus stop that goes to my child’s school and have them board the bus there? It may be closer to my
home than driving my child to school.
• Parents may apply to transportation for their child to go to another bus stop in the area.
• Approval will be granted based on available seats on a bus and safety of a student getting to the stop.
