2012 - 2013
This last twelve months we have focused on improvements to our service, our team and our management of the practice.
Services:
With the introduction of Cerec 4.0 the ability to provide a range of materials and techniques has meant we can provide one visit multiple restorations. With the introduction of LAVA from 3M we can offer high density inlays and crowns from 350 and 600 respectively. This allows us to offer treatment to those with restricted budgets but aesthetic ambitions, witht he precision and design advantages of CAD CAM one visit restorations.
Team:
Introduction of a practice manageress has allowed us to focus on the re-organisation and efficient provision of an enhanced customer service.
In-house questionnaires and self-assessment of our own performance by ourselves to improve efficiency identify areas where further professional training would be of benefit.
In- house questionnaires and patient assement of our strenghts and weaknesses have improved the understanding of our failings and given us the opportunity to work on the identitfied weakest parts of our service.
Management:
Efficiency in stock control has been improved with a cost comparison of suppliers being put in place saving
Staff self assessment and monthly reviews, Skill sharing and each member of staff learning each others role with rotation of staff within the practice is developing a mutual understanding.
Implementation of Standard Operating Protocols to develope, review, define and record practice proceedures has introduced an ongoing practice manual that gives the opportunity for identitication of strengths and weaknesses and will give us a “Practice Manual” that can be grown as the pratice grows. These “SOPS” will range from each clinical proceedure, front office and back office task, telephone enquiries, internet protocols...... The practice manageress is developing these with each member of staff one morning every week, and records the outcome in the practice “manual”.
To identify, diagnose and record the problems of the patient.
To discuss the nature of the problem, the cause of the problem and the options and the implications of treatment .
To provide understanding and information for our patients.
To offer and provide the solutions to suit the patient’sTo restore health, function and aesthetics. To offer an active prevention program and health advice for all our patientsTo provide a comfortable, friendly, clean, relaxed environment. To utilise established and developing techniques and technology to improve the standard of care we offer to our patients. To continually undertake further education to develop our knowledge base.To liase with colleagues and provide a referal service where needed.
! ! PRACTICE AIMS! !! ! To Listen to our Patients
HISTORY AND PREMESIS
The practice was founded 40 years ago by Dr Gerry Meehan. Built on the principle of quality of care and service, with the aim of providing the highest standards possible to the patients of Galway and the West of Ireland. This concept has been a pleasure to follow for the last 11 years and we relocated to our new ground floor premesis 7 years ago on the Docks with the chance to restructure and re-equip the “layout and hardware” setting up a practice with the latest technology and equipment to facilitate the dentistry we aim to offer. Entering the glass fronted reception the patient is welcomed into a generous waiting area with an open reception format with a curved reception desk and mixed lighting to supplement the natural dayllight. Although we had the option to include 6 surgeries, we elected to appoint 3 full surgeries and a hygienist room each being a “copy” of the other, the surgeries are all generously spacious and bright with a sense of calm to put the patient at ease.
In reception we have mixed high chairs and comfy seating, a library of dental educational books, case books of our own work or general reading for our patients with a flat screen monitor with non dental entertainment and an I-Pad with our “dental education - Consult-Pro graphics system. The patient can elect whether to relax or browse our services and information.

! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! In Conclusion
With a commitment to our patients, to Galway and to the Profession of Dentistry we maintain the momentum of the practice and hope to continue to develop the facilities, the training and the standards
of care that modern dentistry can offer.
Know your strengths, search for your weakness, improve both.
Although we strive to master our ambitions and fields of special interest is also just as important to recognise when you need the help of others. We are blessed in Galway with a wide range of dental
specialists to assist with the disciplines and services we do not cover, and it is a pleasure to work in a city and country where the friendship and mutual collaboration of the profession works so well to the
benefit of all. !
