I have always felt great passion for painting. All my will power, the best of me, has been put into my work, and I have had to reconcile attitudes and feelings which are sometimes contradictory, to be able to offer to others work which has a positive sign, which is the most constructive possible offering. I am not at all moralistic, but I like to give people something which can help them without appealing to moral rules.

I have a clear relationship with the subject; if I don’t, I can’t work. I am not capable of distancing myself, but at the same time I wish to respect what I paint. The subject is more important to me than the process of painting, which should reflect a passionate rather than manipulative contemplation.

This series reflects my experience of life. The protagonist, a Zen monk, a walker on the path of life, is followed on his journey.
