Henry Gabble (1904-1975) was the only son of samuel gabble, a tailor from wales who settled in manhattan upper west at the turn of the century. Thanks to his precious old continent savoir-faire, his small business attracted the elegant people of the time looking for tailored quality. Samuel destined his son henry to the same career, but the

latter had different expectations for his future. He helped his father at the shop, but at night studied hard in secret, and doing so he made up the entrance exam of harvard. He promised his father he would come back after his studies

to help him with the shop, and left for college. That is when max wolsh entered his life.Maximilian Wolsh (1903-1971) a different background : born and raised in one of the most respected families of the

very continental bourgeoisie of boston, it had always been assumed that he would do his law in harvard, as all the wolshes had done before him. he was already bored by the life prepared for him, but as a good son, he did his way

to harvard as planned. When they met, henry and max developed an instant friendship, maybe because both of them had to face a destiny settled by others for them. at the end of their curriculum, max became a lawyer in boston, and

henry went back to manhattan to help his father with the accounting, hoping to be able to do something else as soon as his father would realize his potential.

Then came the great depression of the thirties. suddenly, the wolshes lost in the crisis all their fortune.They left boston and the shame to settle in new york. max had at least the consolation to meet again his old friend

henry. But henry’s father had suddenly lost his rich patrons in the turmoil. his business was on the edge of ban-kruptcy. The sudden loss made his health prematurely deteriorate, and henry had to take care of the shop by himself. He called his friend max who was in need of a job and asked him for help. At first, they

didn’t know what to do to save the outdated business in that economic situation. It was not the best time for tuxedo and chic dress. Max noticed that they could provide

the bourgeois patrons with casual and affordable clothes, more adapted to the times, while keeping the quality level and refined taste that had made the reputation of mr

gabbles’s shop. They associated their different talents and started the “gabble & wolsh ”. Since the first collection, they have mixed with unparalleled talent the boston spirit

with the new york casual way of life, making a unique brand out of two unique people!
