Telecommunications are becoming faster and faster. But who ties all these connections together?

Langmatz develops and manufactures infrastructure components for broadband networks.

Telecommunications are indispensable in today's world. We take functioning communication channels for granted. Everyone is dependent upon the assured provision of trou-ble-free processes in the economy and in the infrastructure of cities and communities.

We have a major stake in all of this. Our efforts go unnoticed by most, and yet we are constantly there for everyone. We offer a comprehensive and innovative product portfolio for broadband expansion, ranging from the central office all the

way to within buildings. Numerous future-oriented projects have made us the leading partner, manufacturer, and supplier of FTTx products.

Main optical distribution frames, manholes, above-ground and underground distribution systems, building cable & pipe entry systems, fibre termination points, and much more are the innovative technical systems with which we ensure network functionality and reliability.

This is how we are able to place an intricate optical fibre management system efficiently in robust plastic and metal cabinets. All these intelligent solutions are how we support global networks via fast information superhighways.

Central office optical distributor| CO-ODF

Advantages of Langmatz assemblies in the CO-ODF• High density patch assembly• Pairing of splice and patch assemblies, handling up to 96 connections• Suitable for SC, LC and E2000 adaptors/pigtails • Fibre management in the assembly tray and splice cassette• Entry port for bundled loose tube fibres in the splice section • Cable entry (patch cables/pigtails) without threading• Modular expansion options for both patch and splice assemblies• Basic housing with drawer functionality and removable front cover

The CO-ODF comprises the assembly frame containing the splice and patch sub-rack as-semblies, as well as the cable riser frames for cable routing and excess cable strain relief. Fibre optic cables can be fed in from both above and below the rack. The cables are routed within the system via the cable risers and the channels in the base of the frames. Connections are made between fibre optic line cables and system cables in the splice and patch assemblies.

On the splice side, the cassettes are housed in fully enclosed assembly trays. Here, the fibres of the incoming or outgoing fibre optic cables are spliced directly to pigtails. The basic dimensions of the assembly trays are 530 x 122 x 280 mm (WxHxD) and they fully conform to ETSI mounting standards. The assemblies are mounted in the rear of the cabinet, en-suring unimpeded access to the cables, which are routed along the side of the assembly tray.

Splice sub-rack assembly in the CO-ODF CO-ODF

In the patch sub-rack assembly, the pigtails from the splice sub-rack assemblies are laid to adaptors in the swivel patch cassettes. Patch cables are used to establish the connections between line and system cables, for example. The assembly tray is a fully enclosed housing with a drawer and front cover that can be removed without requiring special tools. Inside, there are swivelling patch cassettes for SC, LC and E2000 adaptors with cable routing elements that ensure minimal bend radii when cables are laid.

In the splice sub-rack assembly, the incoming or outgoing optical fibre cables are spliced to pigtails. The splices are stored in splice cassettes in an orderly manner. Through the cable feed on the side of the assembly tray and the rear mounting level, unimpeded access to the cables is ensured.

The optical fibre network distributor was designed for use in an outdoor cabinet made of polycarbonate. The optical fibre network distributor from Langmatz can be used at outside locations for low-cost network distribution where external conditions (the nature of the substrate, space constraints, etc.) mean that a manhole using fibre closure technology is not an option. In addition, the optical fibre network distributor can also be set up inside a building without a housing being required and with a compact pedestal and base plate. The optical fibre network distributor can be used for a Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) and for Point to Point – Ethernet (PtP) technology in the optical fibre access network.Dividing the inside of the cabinet into a space designated for optical fibre cassettes and one for micro-pipes offers the best possible support for all installation steps. Single and multiple fibre cassettes are available for managing the optical fibres. As an option, multiple fibre cassettes with passive optical adapters/splitters are possible. The micro-pipe management system ensures orderly management and a high level of operating comfort when inserting the optical fibre cables. As an option, the optical fibre network distributor frame can be integrated in a Langmatz optical network management system, with a connection to a central network management system.

Optical intrusion detection sensor EK 333For the monitoring of manholes via a sensor and an analysis unit connected to software in the central office.

IntroductionThe reliability of communication networks is of great importance for the economic development of all companies. Comprehensive control and monitoring of network infrastructure access significantly contribute to network security. The optical manhole monitoring unit is used for the early detection of external interference and immediate initialisation of countermeasures. The status of the optical intrusion detection sensor (open/closed) is permanently queried via an optical analysis unit in the central office according to the OTDR measuring principle. The attenuation strength and the reflection of the light are compared to a reference measurement.

Disruptions in the optical fibre network distributor usually have negative effects on sensitive customer services such as triple play, cloud or highly secure data centre solutions. Network malfunctions can have serious influences on customer satisfaction, in particular in the area of IPTV.

Possible causes of disruptions via external influence include:• Unauthorised opening of the manhole• Malfunctions in the line from the central office to the optical fibre network distributor• Wilful destruction of the manhole via vandalism, criminal activity, or terrorism
