Your membership helps support local, sustainable agriculture while enhancing the community aspects of the Salem Saturday Market.
One of the many programs hosted by Friends of Salem Saturday Market is the free bike valet. Member support
allowed us to park 360 bikes in the supervised
corral last year.
David Rosales, owner of La Capitale and Andaluz restaurants, was one of
several local chefs to host a demonstration last year at the FSSM booth, showing the
community how to use local, fresh ingredients
from the market in their own kitchens.
One exclusive benefit for FSSM members is the chance to tour local farms. Last year’s tour of Fairview Farm Dairy was a hit, and we already have exciting new tours in the works for this summer.
Thanks to the help of our members and volunteers, we successfully implemented the Zero Waste program last summer to recycle and
compost waste at the Salem Saturday Market. As a result, only 17% of market-generated waste landed in the garbage.
Children and their families found new ways to enjoy the market together during FSSM’s family craft activities.
The FSSM tomato tasting is another popular event, as community members try local farmers’ different varieties — and
sometimes find a new favorite.
Learning to live more sustainably by preserving food for the winter months was just one of the many free classes FSSM hosted last year.
Your membership will support a host of new classes this summer.
FSSM’s book swaps allow people to share a book while finding a new one — another way our organization helps build community
at the Salem Saturday Market.
