FSOFEDAS Standardisation Organisation SWOT Feedback
STRENGTHHelpful to achieve the objective
WEAKNESSESHarmful to achieve the objective
OPPORTUNITIES THREATS
FSOFEDAS Standardisation Organisation SWOT - STRENGTH
STRENGTH
WEAKNESSES
OPPORTUNITIES THREATS
Uniformity - Communication- statistics,
Unique and Logic
Not complex(simplification of article handling)
User-friendly(even for consumer /
online platforms)
User-friendly for all size of companies
Statistics according to main groups and or
activities (BW)
Covers the major part of the existing
products on the market
Well structured classification code
Implemented and well accepted by many leading retailers
Continuity over the past / < 15 years
= Industry standard
No better solution available in our
industry
Top down approach
Statistics internal and external comparisons (Gfk: market reports)
FlexibleSpace for new product
groups
Available (online DB) and maintained in
multiple languages
= KFS
Key Success Factor
Accurate
Can be used as internal key or as parallel key (simplifying transfer)
FSOFEDAS Standardisation Organisation SWOT - WEAKNESSES
STRENGTH WEAKNESSES
OPPORTUNITIES THREATS
The code has a limitation (6-digits)
Not all activities are covered by the
concept
The key is only used by certain retailers, some major retailer missing
Not detailed enough
Suppliers sometimes feel forced to provide
the code
Colors, material and sizes not covered
= KKS
Key Killer
Factor
Mainly used in Europe
Gender only for textile and some other limited
product groups
Not category drive
More training to show the user the benefit
Multisport is the basket for everything
Hardly any new retailers or brands have
started using the key
Independent organisation founded
by a few members only
Translation sometimes not good enough
Multi-Sport & 2x Leisure activities are
much to broad
Awareness: executive management & users
No key advantages for the suppliers/brands
FSOFEDAS Standardisation Organisation
SWOT - OPPORTUNITY
STRENGTH WEAKNESSES
OPPORTUNITIES THREATS
FEDAS to be used by everyone within our
industry
Focus on a more global positioning
Motivate more suppliers/brands to use
the code
Adding category to each sport (activity)
Extend the key to be feasible also for
specialised shops
Clear code for color, gender and sizes range
Adding additional business like service,
rental
Make market reports available
Motivate WFSGI to promote and host the PCK
Stronger involvement of the industry to cover
better our need
Offer report functionality
Maintain EN/CE norm info
Link to standard code information like HS, recycling
info, inco term 2000,…..
Extend the structure to grant more granularity
Improve the data standard integrity within Product Main Group (focus
on silhouette) & Product Sub-Group (focus on Gender-Age)
ERP integration, cooperation with ERP
providers
Improve code standard integrity around Compete,
Train, Teamsport, Replica, Fan & Fashion/Leisure Styles
Create advantages for the suppliers/brands
(e.g. feedback market figures)
= KFS
Key Success Factor
FSOFEDAS Standardisation Organisation SWOT - THREATS
STRENGTH WEAKNESSES
OPPORTUNITIES THREATS
A new version can be too complicate
Cost and effort of changing is too high
Some company will stick to the old version
Chaos if we permit the use of both versions
Other upcoming standards, lunched by global retailers
such as Amazon, Taobao, Ali Baba Group etc.
Benefits of new FEDAS PCK are not substantial enough to
motivate users to make change
= KKS
Key Killer
Factor
Danger of adding unnecessary codes to
the new concept
Lack of interest
Switching to GPC (global Prod Code) of
GS1
FSOFEDAS Standardisation Organisation SWOT - Key Findings
OPPORTUNITIES
1) Uniform, unique, logic structure2) Continuity (15 years)3) User-friendly (Industry & Consumer)4) Good base for developing statistics (BW)5) Public available online in 7 languages6) Certain flexibility within the limit of the 6-
digits7) Covers the majority of the product groups
required in Europe8) Simplifying the transfer to own internal coding
concept
1) Key user group is Europe2) The 6-digits code has its limitation (international
implementation)3) Certain activities missing4) Certain European key players (retailers) missing5) Gender only available for textile and some other limited
product groups6) Not category driven7) Activities “Multisport” and “Leisure” basket for a lot of
products8) Organisation too weak – few members9) Awareness: Executive Management and users10) No key advantages for supplier/brands
1) Would suite most retailers (large potential)2) Extend the content of the exiting code by using
all options3) Get WFSGI on board4) If an extended code is developed then make
sure it covers all need internationally, for specialised shops and adding category.
5) Extend the concept adding codes not yet standardised
6) Integrate report functionality 7) Involved ERP providers
1) Other upcoming standards lunched by global (online) retailers
2) Lack of interest3) Too high cost of change4) Transfer (-time)5) Chaos and now uniformity - end of FEDAS PCK
THREATS
WEAKNESSESSTRENGTH
