FS002: INTIMATE GARDENS IN DENVER’S HISTORIC NEIGHBORHOODS
7 POLO CLUB LANE RESIDENCEArchitecture by Peter Dominick and Elizabeth Metz, 7 Polo Club Drive is a Post Modern Residence organized around a two story gallery space that opens to a mature row of Little Leaf Lindens along the front entry and the rest of the living rooms of the house on the opposite side. The gardens incorporate existing mature trees within an established neighborhood aesthetic while incorporating bold contemporary moves within the site and the architecture. The gardens include open lawns, a tiled pool with wood deck and outdoor kitchen area. Designed by Laurel Raines, Dig Studio (While at EDAW) 1997
CRANMER PARK RESIDENCE GARDEN PLAN
CRANMER PARK RESIDENCEA national landmark Jacques Benedict Tuscan house built for George Cranmer the father of the Denver Park System in 1918 includes a modern pool house and a CCASLA Honor Award winning historic and contemporary garden. The garden is the result of collaboration between client and designers for over a decade. Distinctive outdoor rooms relate to the interior architecture and the desires of the family. They include: a sunny play lawn, an ivy and boxwood courtyard with a semi-circular pergola containing the view from the houses primary internal vista. The modern hot tub and pool gardens contrast the histor-ic garden rooms and transform the planting aesthetic. Here is your chance to view up close a designer sited a Bronze Deborah Butterfi eld Horse. Phased design by; Laurel Raines, (Hyatt Raines and Vitek), Mungorn Chati (EDAW) and Gretchen Wilson and Laurel Raines, Dig Studio (while at AECOM).
FIREHOUSE RESIDENCE GARDEN PLAN
FIREHOUSE RESIDENCEOn 11th Avenue a stately stone and brick Firehouse was built in 1903. There is considerable grade change on the site as well as some odd geometry cre-ated by the angled positioning of the fi rehouse on the lot. The designers have accommodated the grade by terracing the site and organizing the geometry with a central circular walled garden that divides the space into two balanced outdoor rooms. The garden features a repurposed Fire Hose Fountain Wall a reclining Deborah Butterfi eld Horse, entry columns, an over-scaled planter and colorful plantings. Renovated in 2014 by Dig Studio.
CIRCLE DRIVE RESIDENCE GARDEN PLAN
CIRCLE DRIVE RESIDENCEThe residence at 545 Circle drive was built in 1940 original architecture by Burnham Hoyt. Dig Studio assisted the owner and the architect, Matt Lawton from Sexton Lawton Architects in the landscape renovation. Plantings were chosen that thrive in our climate but were reminiscent of the Palm Springs destinations of the client’s childhood. In addition to the planting design Dig Studio made recommendations on hardscape, fountain, and grading.
COUNTRY CLUB RESIDENCE GARDEN PLAN
COUNTRY CLUB RESIDENCEThe garden, completed over 20 years ago posed a diffi cult design challenge; how to direct visitors to the front door tucked back within the site. A series of walled courtyards and arbor structure organizes the site and leads the visitor gracefully to the front door. Designed by Laurel Raines and Chris Olson (The Offi ce of Hyatt Raines and Vitek).
