From Your Principal Innovative Learning at Craigburn—Consultation
We are very excited to share with our community the progress we are making with our
“Innovative Learning” focus which is capitalising on the use of digital technology. The
children are certainly participating in a “leading edge” education at Craigburn and we are
looking forward to parent feedback regarding our consideration of introducing of 1 to 1
devices (iPads). This would ensure that we are at the forefront of developments in learning.
We have carefully prepared our rationale in association with our Governing Council, the
School Staff and support from leaders in the field.
As professionals, we do take great care to support the development of children’s skills and
knowledge in the broad Australian Curriculum (including high expectations for literacy and
numeracy) through a range of teaching methodologies (pedagogies). We also ensure that
our digital learning agenda is relevant, meaningful and innovative throughout many of their
learning activities. Please click here to learn about the ways our school can support
enhanced learning programs through this digital focus and the plans that we hope to
achieve with support from our families.
Staffing
Congratulations to Paul Luke who has won the Deputy Principal position at Craigburn PS for
the next 6 years. Paul is a dedicated and highly respected leader at Craigburn and we
certainly value his outstanding work within our school community. Well done Paul!
We are also thrilled to announce that 5 teachers have been appointed to permanent
positions at Craigburn PS from 2015. These highly skilled staff include three of our
colleagues who have previously been in temporary positions: Emma Harry, Chantelle
McMahon and Karen Pettman. We have also been fortunate to have appointed Anita
Pinkster from Braeview Primary School and Genevieve
Dow from Woodcroft Primary School. We look
forward to their future contribution to our
school.
Craigburn Primary School is a learning community sustained by quality relationships
within a culture of respect, optimism and resilience. We are highly regarded for our
passion for learning and our focus on continual improvement.

Transition Visits
This week we welcomed 88 excited new reception students for their first transition visit. We
are certainly looking forward to sharing in their learning journeys as participants at
Craigburn Primary School. We also welcome our new parents to the school and appreciate
the enthusiasm and positive feedback we have received about our wonderful school.
Parent Opinion Survey
Thank you to those parents who have been able to provide us with feedback in our Parent
Opinion Surveys. We really appreciate as many parents and caregivers as possible
responding to this important information, the results of which will be published in our
Annual Report for 2014. If you have not had a chance to respond yet, we encourage you to
do so. It will only take 2 minutes—please copy the access code, click on the link and
complete prior to Nov 28th. Parent Opinion Survey Access Code - QH4tjyJK
Traffic Considerations—please be patient
Please consider the safety of all children at the pick up and drop off points near the school.
The school staff take much care in ensuring student safety, however, we have no
jurisdiction over the parking or the traffic movement on the roads. Recently there have
been some very upset people driving cars when the traffic has banked up on Murray’s Hill
Rd. Please be patient as the busiest times only last for 5 minutes. Cars are not to stop on the
road, over the school crossing or in driveways, as this creates embarrassment for other
motorists. Please do not park on the yellow lines either as this can incur a council fine.
Traffic ideally needs to keep moving through the drop-off zone where at all possible. Thank
you for your consideration of this information.
Last Day of Term—half a day
Advance notice— School will finish at 12.30pm on the last day of term.

Craigburn Café
Special Donut Day
On Tuesday 2nd December we are having ‘Christmas Tree Donut Special Donut Day’.
The donuts will be freshly made Sprinkle Donuts from the Flagstaff Hill Bakery for $3.00.
This delicious treat will be delivered to classrooms for recess.
A note was sent home this week explaining details, as all orders must be PRE-PAID.
Last day to order is Tuesday 25th November. (The baker needs final numbers ASAP).
We hope you all support the canteen on this last ‘Special Day ‘for the year.
Unfortunately the very popular ‘Fruit Stack’ is no longer in production. Therefore, we have
introduced a new ice-block called ‘Funny Fingers’. Very similar to Fruit Stacks but slightly
bigger. A refreshing treat for $1.00.
Reminder: The Asian Special (spring Rolls and Fried Rice) has been deleted off the Menu.
We have noticed an increase in late lunches, which makes it very difficult for the students to
get what they want due to the time factor. We can’t cook nuggets, hotdogs, etc. at 1pm.
They will be offered Noodles or a vegemite sandwich.
Can parents please remind their children to put lunch orders in classroom lunch box in the
morning to avoid disappointment.
School Open Tour The Principal, Kathy Terrell invites all
prospective parents to take time to
visit the school and learn about our
comprehensive facilities and learning
programs.
If you would like to attend, please
contact the school.
Student Absences If a student is absent from school due to

Cheer Leaders Well done to Kate G, Alex G and Imogen W who are cheerleaders for The Belair All stars. They travelled to Melbourne recently and competed in the World Cup Cheer & Dance National Competition. The girls came home with 3 trophies, coming 2nd in one of their routines. This was a huge achievement as the competition was fierce and a wonderful experience for the girls.

Celebration Night
Monday, 8th December
Parents / caregivers are asked to have their children in their classrooms at 6.00pm so that
teachers can organise students and make their way to the area for the evening’s activities.
The school concert band will entertain the audience from 6.00pm—6.20pm on the oval.
Please ensure that you know what your child needs to wear or bring on the night. We will
commence at 6.30pm and will be finished by 8.00pm.
Programs will be available on the night for a gold coin donation. This will assist us to offset
the cost of the professional sound we are hiring for the evening.
Students will remain with their class during the evening’s performance.
Parents and other family members will be sitting on the oval slope and may need to bring a
blanket to sit on. It will be important for families to supervise younger children, as they will
not be able to move around the area to meet up with siblings involved in the performances.
In the past some families have brought along a picnic tea. We would ask that families who
do so ensure that there is minimal noise during the performances. Students will need to eat
either prior to 6.00pm or at the end of the night. There will be a sausage sizzle available
from 5:30pm.
Students will be dismissed from the oval at the end of the performance.
