From The Principal’s Desk
Congratulations kindergarten on finishing your very first term at school. Please find later in this newsletter all the information required for those students in Year 3 and Year 5 who will be involved in NAPLAN next term. If you have further questions please see your class teacher. This term we welcomed our new Confucius Classroom Teachers who have been a wonderful asset to our Chinese Cultural Program. We have worked closely with UNSW Innovations Centre deepening our ties to support our mainstream science programs and Enrichment Groups. We have introduced two new dance programs. Next term we welcome to our school Coding and Touch Typing and another new after school program called Startime (more
information later in this newsletter). Well done Kensington! You have all worked very hard this term so please enjoy your well-deserved break and we will see students return on Wednesday 26 April. Thank you Fania as a concerned Kensington resident and parent of the school for keeping us informed of all the building and Light Rail works in the area. Please note there were contact details at the end of her package if you require more information, or to raise further concerns. On Monday I met with Acciona as I will continue to do throughout the light rail works. A few points of interest were raised. As a local resident If you are not yet receiving the published flier and would like direct contact please email [email protected] and simply registering “kensington” to receive the correct flier. From 8-24 April the West Bound lane on Todman will be closed as rail and utility works are being completed. From 15-24 April High Street is affected- turning right in Anzac Parade is closed and Right into High Street from Anzac near NIDA is closed.
More up to date information can be sort from: sydneylightrail.com.au
Please find attached information about another new program coming to Kensington. Startime is a filmmaking opportunity for all those students that want to make and act in movies. I recently met Jo at a conference and felt that a program such as this might be good for our students so, if you are interested, please have a look at the attached information and let them know through the expression of interest attached. It will take place one afternoon a week after school in the Performing Arts room. BANR : WORLD CACER DAYSHARED BANNER : WORLD C
As discussed recently at the P & C Meeting if you have any other ideas for after school programs you would like us to have available to you please let the school know so we can look at sourcing them. Robotics will be coming in Term 3. Also discussed at the last P & C was a new School Newsletter provider. Schoolzine is coming to Kensington and we will go live mid next term. The newsletter can be translated, and will have photo albums and videos as well as an interactive calendar and automatic access to all permission forms. There are opportunities to advertise similar to our current newsletter. Please see the information later in this newsletter about advertising opportunities. Today your children will come home with some new school envelopes. With the change over to the LMBR system labelled envelopes will help with smooth money handling. Please fill out the envelopes with the appropriate details and return the money with your child as normal. Thank you for your assistance.
Happy Easter, Happy Greek Orthodox Easter, Happy Peseach and Happy Holidays to all. See you on Wednesday 26 April Ms Louise Stone Principal

iStar is a dynamic after-school filmmaking program that gives students skills, through modern learning, in communication, creativity, collaboration and critical thinking. This is a highly practical program that aims to make you an accomplished and creative filmmaker.
iStar develops your creative voice through writing, acting, directing and editing your own movie productions using smart devices. With real time tablet technology, students learn the fundamentals of filmmaking; framing, sound, lighting and camera acting techniques and how to apply these stylistically to a variety of different genres of film. You will engage with some of the latest apps, including; green screen, timelapse sequencing and other SFX software for the purposes of making your digital stories more engaging and creative.
Each week students will be guided by our expert coaches and undertake a filmmaking challenge, related to the specific theme of the term. Drawing on the skills developed through the course of the year, students will collaborate to create their own film, which will be screened at a Premier Film Festival at the conclusion of the course.
