Our year has gotten off to a great start at Hunt and we look forward to many exciting things this semester. There have been so many fun activities. We have had everything from college week, to book fair. Next month the PTA will be working on many more exciting activities such as Red Ribbon week and AIM. These programs would not be possible without the parents and staff coming together and working for our kids. It is through your donations, time and support that we are able to do these wonderful things for the kids, and we thank you.

Hunt 6th Grade Store

The PTA sponsors the program in which 6th graders earn "Husky Bucks" from their teachers for positive behavior and adherence to rules and regulations. The students then have the opportunity to spend those "bucks" at the store each month during certain lunch periods. There they can buy fun little trinkets as their reward. If you are so inclined, you may donate items to our inventory; mechanical pencils, highlighters, toys, notebooks, etc. Please drop off any donations to the reception area clearly marked for the "6th Grade Store". Red Ribbon Week October 22-26

Wear red ribbons to support your school and community in anti-drug events. Take a pledge to live a drug-free life! The history of Red Ribbon Week dates back to 1985 when Special Agent Kiki Camarena was on an assignment in Guadalajara, Mexico to stop the country’s biggest drug traffickers. He was close to unlocking a multi-billion dollar drug pipeline when he was kidnapped and murdered by the Mexican drug traffickers. His tragic death brought the attention of many Americans on the dangers of drugs and the international drug trade. Friends and families in Special Agent Camarena’s hometown and California Congressman pledged to lead drug-free lives in honor of his heroic duties. The drug-free campaign gained momentum through California and then through the U.S. In 1988, President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan coordinated the first National Red Ribbon Week as a result of these initial drug-free pledges. At Hunt, we hope that our Red Ribbon Week unifies our school to take a stand against drugs. The red ribbon symbolizes zero tolerance for alcohol, drug, and tobacco use. We have a special program on Wednesday, October 24th, for all of our students. DEA Special Agent Vic Routh will speak about his experiences and his presentation will include real life stories that will educate our students and carry an impactful drug prevention message. This presentation will be videotaped and made available to the parents.

Frisco ISD Named One of the 100 Best Communities for Young People

Frisco ISD has been selected one of America’s Promise Alliance’s 100 Best Communities for Young

People presented by ING.

The national award recognizes FISD’s outstanding and innovative work, in partnership with the community, to

address the high school dropout crisis and for its programs and services that make it an outstanding place for

youth to live, learn and grow. “This is a great honor for the entire community,” said Superintendent Rick

Reedy. “Our job is huge and we don’t take it lightly. It truly takes a village to make this the best place it can be for

young people.”

FISD Board of Trustees, staff and special guests gathered Wednesday to watch the live announcement from

Washington, D.C. Board President Renée Ehmke says it’s a testament to the District’s many partnerships. “Frisco

is very unique,” she said. “We have great relationships that allow us to do things that we wouldn’t be able to do

otherwise. Every school board should be so lucky.” Frisco ISD, a first-time 100 Best winner, was recognized for

its dedication to youth through programs that focus on education, health, safety, mentoring, outreach and

supporting children in need. Some of the highlighted efforts include:

• The District partners with a community group to provide more than 160 homeless students with food, clothing,

transportation, school supplies and shelter.

• Frisco ISD is the largest donor to Frisco Family Services Center, which distributes approximately 35,000 pounds

of food to more than 350 families each month. The center operates a Summer Lunch Program that provides

meals and activities in the city park. FISD employees and students consistently serve as volunteers.

• The FISD KEYS Program provides one-on-one assistance to children in grades 3-8 who are experiencing severe

behavioral or learning issues.

• The Bright Ideas Homework Club mentors and tutors Bright Elementary School children in an after-school

program that offers homework help and educational games.

• St. Philip's Episcopal Church partners with Bright Elementary School, providing mentors and Bright Zone

volunteers who work with students who need a concerned adult in their lives.

“This is just another indication of the great partnerships we have between the City of Frisco, Frisco ISD, non-profit

organizations and other community groups that make Frisco a great place for families and to raise children,” said

Mike Simpson, former Frisco mayor and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County.

FISD will receive a $2,500 grant, signage identifying the community as one of the nation’s 100 Best Communities

for Young People and access to America’s Promise Alliance’s community development resources.

Gary Burns Frisco Fun Run At Frisco Square

The Gary Burns Frisco Fun Run is a 5K run/walk and 1 mile walk through Frisco Square. Proceeds from the Frisco Fun Run go to the Frisco Education Foundation to build scholarship opportunities for our Frisco ISD students,

including the Gary Burns Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Our Fall Book Fair was a stellar success! Many thanks to all of you who visited both

our in-school fair as well as our online fair. With the funds raised from the fair, Hunt

library and classrooms will receive more books for their curriculum uses. We also

want to thank all the families that donated books by purchasing off of the teachers'

wish lists. This is a great way to help expand the classroom libraries and encourage

more students to read. Several "All Star" parent volunteers contributed their time and
