From the Lead Pastor
Dear Friends in Christ at King of Glory,
This newsletter is chock full of all the fall activities we have
planned for our church. In a congregation as large as we are, it
takes a lot of folks to step forward to help and to serve. I want to
thank you for your willingness to be part of our church’s Mission.
Our office wing is done and the new furniture should be arriving
any day. In a congregation as large as we are, it takes many givers
to undergird our Mission and our budget. I want to thank you for
your generosity—not only toward our budget, but also toward our
special projects that come up from time to time. Time and again
you have stepped forward to say, “That’s a great idea! Let’s get it
done!”
King of Glory’s future looks bright. With explosive growth
happening all around us, we can’t help but be challenged to
continue our good work of reaching out and welcoming all. I’ll bet
we’ll see a lot of new visitors who have heard about King of Glory
or have been invited by one of you to come and check it out. We’ll
grow and grow substantially.
King of Glory has a lot to offer—worthwhile worship, learning
opportunities for all ages, chances to serve in the church and out in
the community, and a place to use your gifts to the glory of God.
What more could you ask?
I am excited about the coming opportunities this fall. Aren’t you?
God bless you and keep you in His Grace!
Pastor James A. Darchuk

GET READY TO SERVE! Sunday, September 11, 2016
“God’s Work. Our Hands.” Service Sunday is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). The date for the 2016 dedicated day of service is Sun., Sept. 11. This year’s date also marks the 15-year anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks on the United States. As we continue to share God’s love with our neighbors, whether it’s making PB&J sandwiches, or picking up trash on the Rims, we will also be thanking and praying for the emergency responders in our area.
“The world can be a dangerous place. But there are some who, when disaster strikes, run toward the danger. These are the first responders, firefighters, police and EMTs, who live out their baptismal vocation in service to their communities in times of intense need. They do God’s work with their hands.” – ELCA Presiding Bishop Elizabeth A. Eaton
Sign up in the Commons to help with a service project. We will work on Sunday, Sept. 11 from 11am – 12:30pm and then all are invited back to the church for lunch and a time of sharing.

Belonging, Believing, & Becoming: New Member
Classes at King of Glory
New Member Sunday is October 30
King of Glory welcomes all. We hope that all visitors feel
that sense of welcome each time they attend worship, serve
along side members, or join us in celebrations. New Member
Classes are the process we use to help visitors take the next
step of investment this shared ministry.
New Member Classes involve four gatherings:
Gathering #1 – A conversation in your home. A chance to
visit with a pastor personally.
Gathering #2 – A party with the pastors. The Quanbecks
enjoy hosting and this is a great excuse for getting together.
Date: Sunday October 9, 2-5 pm 3908 Palisades Park Dr.
Gathering #3 – A class at the church. We will gather in
the church to learn more about the history, theology, and prac-
tices of the congregation. Two dates are available (pick one).
Saturday October 8, 9am-11am or Sunday October 16, 1pm-
3pm.
Gathering #4 – A celebration in worship. Sunday,
October 30 is New Member Sunday.
If you are interested in membership, you can sign up for the
class in the commons area at the church or by contacting
Pastor Ben directly. ([email protected])
“Roots of Our Faith”
This adult class, taught by Pastor
Darchuk, will explore the “Roots of
Our Faith” and being a Lutheran
Christian in the world today.
In preparation for the celebration of
the 500th year since the Reformation,
we will examine basic Lutheran
teachings from our Small Catechism.
We’ll see what makes Lutheran
Christians unique.
The class will meet on Sundays
October 2 through October 30 during
the Education Hour (9:40-10:20
a.m.).

1 & 2 Kings
Study the bloody, political, challenging, God infused books of the Old Testament. These books chronical God’s work among
the prophets and the rise to power of the kings of ancient Israel. Filled with faith, prophesy, backstabbing, war, and scandal
these books present a side of scripture that is not often discussed. Come and learn more!

What is Confirmation? It’s not a “have to” it’s a “get to.” It’s a teaching ministry of
the church. It’s a chance to dive-deep into the Holy Scriptures, dive-deep into
friendships with others in the body of Christ, and dive-deep into the questions you
have about life, faith, and the church.
KOG’s Confirmation ministry is for 7th and 8th graders. If you would like to join us,
please contact Pr. Jen or attend the Orientation Meeting on Wed. Sept. 7th at 6:30.

members to get their feet wet in the process of singing to God’s glory.
There are so many of you who can give so much to our choir, even if

body who likes fellowship and loves to sing (whether soprano, bass,
out of tune, or with scratchy throats, etc.) we want you with us. We’re
starting rehearsals on Wednesday, September 7th at 7:00 p.m. in the
worship area.
Call John Haughey at 671-4673 if you have any questions.
Thanks to all of you [my pastors, staff and friends] for your support-- your visits, prayers and gifts during my two weeks of face-down recovery follow-ing macular eye surgery and the days since. Estate and Gift Planning Workshop
Saturday, September 17, 2016
10:00 AM - 2:30 PM
American Lutheran Church
5 Lewis Avenue
Billings, MT 59101
Over the course of our lives, we accumulate a lot of assets. But what happens when we die? You have probably heard the phrase, "You can't take it with you!" But we can make sure that our life's assets will be used in ways that witness to our Christian faith - by blessing the lives of those we love and also to bless ministries of the church and causes that we support. Additionally, by examining our assets and learning about gift planning, we may also find it possible to make current gifts as well.
To help people learn more about this, the Montana Synod is offering an Estate and Gift Planning Workshop. Featured presenters will be: Pastor George Karres - Director for Evangelical Mission, Montana Synod
Dr. Marsha Goetting - Professor and Extension Family Economics Specialist, Montana State University, Bozeman, Montana
Ms. Beth Adams - ELCA Foundation Gift Planner The cost is $10, which includes lunch. To register, please email or call Pastor George Karres: [email protected] Phone 406-453-1461
King of Glory will host Family Promise guests Sunday evening, September 25 – Sunday morning, October 2. As usual, we need the help of volunteers for this to be a successful hosting; the volunteer signup board may already be up in the Commons by the time you read this article.
We especially need folks to volunteer as overnight hosts, as one of our regular overnight volunteers is leaving the Billings community, and we don’t have any “spares”. The overnight volunteer gig is about 12 hours, from approximately 7:30 in the evening to about 7:00 a.m. the next morning. It can be done by
one or two people. Your time there can be
any mix of visiting with the adult guests, interacting with the children (reading stories, playing games, or just playing – but they are quite often in their rooms by 8:00-
9:00), and reading material you have brought with you before sleeping on the cots in the overnight host’s area. You can find further details on overnight hosting on the King of Glory website and/or by talking to me.
Looking forward to your help.
