FROM THE DESK OF MSGR. STEVE KNOX
Dear Friends in Christ,
Diocesan Stewardship Appeal 2021
Once a year, we conduct our Annual Diocesan Stewardship Appeal to support our
diocesan ministries. It was not long after the pandemic hit, a little over a year ago, that
we launched the 2020 Diocesan Appeal. Our parish did an amazing job, and we were able
to reach our goal for the well-being of our diocese. The theme Bishop Malloy has desig-
nated for this year’s appeal is “Bear Much Fruit” (John 15:5). The stronger our connection
to Jesus is, the more our lives bear the good fruit of virtue and service.
This Appeal supports all of our diocesan ministries. The appeal supports seminary education for our
future priests. St. Bridget has been blessed by this ministry by many wonderful priests over the years. Our
parish is a great place for seminarians to experience ministry and parish life. Seminarian, Ian Ordonez will
be with us this coming summer. The Appeal also supports the Permanent Diaconate Office, Lay Ministry
Formation, Catholic Charities and other social service ministries, and the offices that oversee youth ministry,
marriage preparation, religious education, and Catholic schools. Those are just a few of the ministries that
receive support from the Annual Appeal.
Each parish is given a target amount toward the overall diocesan
budget. For the 2021 Appeal, our parish is asked to contribute $113,387.00
as our fair share of the diocesan budget. In light of the challenging econom-
ic times, our diocese has decreased its budget for the 7th year in a row. Our
diocesan leaders strive to be wise stewards of the resources that are con-
tributed by parishioners. If it is possible for you to contribute $250 over the
course of the year that would be greatly appreciated. Some may be able to
pledge more and others less in light of your circumstances. It is also possi-
ble to make your pledge online at www.rockforddiocese.org/donate/ to
donate easily and securely. It is important that we make our target because
any shortfall will need to be made up out of our operating budget. Any
amount raised over the target comes back to the parish which can be used
for our ministry needs.
Please give some prayerful consideration to supporting this im-
portant appeal. An Appeal envelope will be coming in the mail soon. On
behalf of Bishop Malloy, I would like to thank you for your support of our
Diocesan Church which covers most of Northern Illinois. We are blessed to
be part of a great diocese, so let us do our part to keep our diocesan ministries growing and strong!
Welcome Cindy Godawski
We were blessed to have Debbie VanSistine serve as our business manager for over 5 years. Debbie
recently discerned that it was time to move on from her position to be able to spend more time with her
family. She and her husband Mike will continue to be parishioners.
We are happy that Cindy Godawski will be our new business manager. Cindy has served for a num-
ber of years in that position at St. Peter in South Beloit. We welcome her and her family to St. Bridget Par-
ish. She will be a great addition to our staff. Welcome Cindy!
In Christ,
Msgr. Steve Knox
My name is Cindy Godawski and I am blessed and honored to be the new business manager.
I was born and raised in Elgin, and attended Judson College and Keller Graduate School of
Management, graduating with a degree in accounting and finance. I moved to Roscoe in
1995 with my husband and son, who is now married and lives nearby.
I have been the business manager at St. Peter, South Beloit for the past 8 years, and am
very much looking forward to serving at St. Bridget Parish.
My husband and I have been attending St. Bridget for almost a year and we have always
felt welcomed, and are thankful to everyone for making us feel at home.
MONDAY EVENING PRAISE AND WORSHIP GATHERINGS
Each Monday evening from 7:00pm-7:45pm, we have praise and worship in the Church with Eucharistic Ado-
ration. The gathering is also livestreamed. We ask those who attend to wear a face covering. The evening is
led by our priests. The music genre is contemporary Christian music led by Jake Washington and some of
our young adults. These evenings allow us to connect with the Lord in a special way and be led into deeper
spiritual waters through Adoration and uplifting, prayerful music. We all need peace of mind and peace of
heart so please consider joining us on Monday evenings!
FRIDAY EVENING ROSARY AND ADORATION
Each Friday evening from 7:00pm-7:45pm, we pray the Rosary in the Church with Eucharistic Adoration. The
gathering is also livestreamed. We ask those who attend to wear a face covering, and maintain social dis-
tancing. The evening is led by our priests. We all need peace of mind and peace of heart so please consider
joining us on Friday evenings!

HEALING HEARTS 815
YOUTH GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP
Did you know that 1 in 5 children will experience the death of someone close to
them by the age of 18. At Healing Hearts, we understand that it can be helpful to talk
about the loss of a loved one and the adjustments that follow after your loss. While there
are no simple answers, we hope to give young people the permission to grieve and a place to share their
journey with others experiencing similar loss.
Healing Hearts will meet from 4:00pm-5:00pm on the first Sunday of the month at Holy Family Catholic
Church starting on May 2nd. We welcome young people grades 6 and up. Healing Hearts is led by Elizabeth
Hand, a Holy Family parishioner and local educator. Elizabeth experienced the loss of her sister at age 15
and knows first hand the importance of a support group for young people to process their grief. For more
information or to register, email Elizabeth Hand at [email protected]
ST. BRIDGET CATHOLIC SCHOOL: PRESCHOOL EXPANSION PROJECT
This summer, we are planning on doing some remodeling in a number of rooms in the west wing of
our school. This is the wing where we have our preschool and kindergarten classrooms. Our preschool pro-
gram has been constrained by having only one classroom. The remodel will involve transforming two large
classrooms into three, relocating our teacher’s lounge, adding restrooms in that wing, and enlarging our
nurse’s office. The kindergarten room at the end of the hallway will stay the same. This will give us two class-
rooms for kindergarten and two for preschool.
Having a second classroom dedicated to preschool will allow us to expand our program and provide
options for parents, including full day sessions for both 3 and 4 year olds. Most of our students who are part
of our preschool continue on for kindergarten and grade school. This expansion will be good for the long
term health of our school.
Thank you for your on-going support of St. Bridget School. May the Lord bless you and your family
with much joy and peace this Easter Season!
In Christ,
Msgr. Steve Knox and Principal Mary Toldo
ST. BRIDGET SCHOOL NEWS
In 6th grade Physical Science, students are applying their knowledge of Newton's First and Sec-
ond Laws of Motion. The students are designing Roller Coasters made from paper plates, cups,
and masking tape. They will send a marble through the roller coaster encountering turns,
spins, and loops. Understanding gravitational pull makes
this project a challenge, yet so fun and rewarding.
Social distancing in schools has been a big topic all
year now. P.E. is a little challenging, but the students
just finished a volleyball unit. They learned the three
hits: bump, set, and spike. When playing, the students are able to
move, have fun, and maintain social distance to keep everyone safe!
DIVORCED AND HEALING
Divorced and Healing is an open and ongoing support
group that helps individuals cope and heal from di-
vorce and separation. Speakers and faith sharing are
offered throughout the year. Whether recently di-
vorced or 20+ years out, this group is for you.

Room of the Church after the 8:15am Mass.
The intercession of this blessed saint of the most
hopeless and impossible cases would be a tremen-
dous aid not only in our personal situations, but
even more so, on a global level. Please remember
to pray to her, especially for our brothers and sis-
ters who have not or cannot return to Church, and
for those stricken with COVID-19.

APRIL 18TH - THIRD
SUNDAY OF EASTER
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus ex-
plains that the meaning of the scrip-
tures. Like the disciples, when we
offer and receive forgiveness our hearts burn be-
cause we encounter the risen Christ within us.
Have you considered answering the call to “help the
poor find forgiveness and healing in their life” by
joining the Society of St. Vincent de Paul?
If you are interested in finding out more about St. Vin-
cent de Paul, please email us your name, phone number
and email address to [email protected]
LOW GLUTEN HOSTS ARE AVAILABLE
Persons with Celiac disease are oftentimes unable
to consume communion hosts used at Mass be-
cause of an intolerance to gluten. A host has been
developed that has been given Vatican approval. It
has a miniscule amount of gluten to make it valid
matter for the Eucharist. Most people with Celiac
disease or a gluten intolerance are able to consume
these hosts.
If you need to receive one of these hosts, the main
priest celebrant at the Mass will have a pyx (small
container) in his ciborium that contains the low glu-
ten hosts. Please let one of the priests or the sacris-
tan know before Mass that you are in need of a low
gluten host. When you come up to the priest simp-
ly say “special host”, and the priest will know which
host you need to receive. If you have any questions
on this please call or email one of the priests and
we will be happy to assist you.

Since everything is interrelated, concern
for the protection of nature is also incom-
patible with the justification of abortion.
How can we genuinely teach the im-
portance of concern for other vulnerable
beings, however troublesome or incon-
venient they may be, if we fail to protect a human
embryo, even when its presence is uncomfortable
and creates difficulties?”
