It will be available for purchase and will be signed by the author. More than 50 short stories in We Laughed, We Cried- The Days that Shaped a Doctor describe patient tales Dr. Chapman-Smith has found especially inspiring, intriguing, or unusual. "My intent is to showcase the patient as the central focus of a physician's life and to portray with candid insight the impact all of these amazing people have had on my growth, both in my life's work and in my personal life," Chapman-Smith said. She describes the stories as ranging from "poignantly tear-jerking to outrageously humorous." Bigelow, winner of the Transcontinental Award, worked for more than a decade as a blue-collar factory worker. After being laid off on Christmas Day of 2006, he earned a MA in English from Indiana University at IPFW in 2009. Currently, he teaches writing and literature at Ivy Tech Community College, Northeast. Books will be available for purchase and will be signed by the author.

The Work of Ellen England A Retrospective Photography Exhibit: Now-May 11

Discover Historic Auburn Day Sunday, May 19, 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. (library tours: 12:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.) The Eckhart Public Library, Willennar Genealogy Center and The Third Place: A Teen Library will be participating in Discover Historic Auburn Day, 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Library facilities will only be open 12:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. for tours. This would be a wonderful opportunity to stop by and view the Friends of the Library Annual Art Show. Passports will be delivered in The Star a week or two before the event, or they may be picked up at the event locations on Sunday, May 19. Passport will include free admittance into Auburn Museums for the day. Various businesses and organizations will have booths and entertainment. Ongoing tours will be available of historic homes via wagons. Also, walking tours of historic downtown buildings will be given.

Come discuss what is protected and what is not protected, whether in book form or on the internet. Tuesday, May 21, 12:00 p.m.-1:30 p.m. “Tiptoeing Through the Graveyard” Cemeteries are living lessons in history. Much can be learned about the person who has died, as well as their family. Although not a primary information source, gravestones are an excellent source of dates, birthplaces, maiden names, etc. Come explore all the possible information that can be gathered from visiting the cemetery. Monday, May 13, 4:30 p.m.-6:30 p.m. Paint with Your Vegetables Chop apart some vegetables and use them as paintbrushes and stamps. What kind of print will part of a head of cabbage make? Come to the teen library and experiment with vegetable art. Vegetables will be available for painting and snacking! Saturday, May 18, 12:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. Star Trek: Into Darkness Boldly go where no one has gone before. Join the teen library for a Star Trek celebration. Stop by for a screening of Star Trek (2009) before venturing to NCG Cinemas to see Star Trek: Into Darkness. There is limited space for this activity, so please register at the teen library. Dr. Manning will demonstrate the size and scale of the universe, the stars, and other celestial wonders using hands on activities and assorted visuals. *If DeKalb Central Schools have class this day, the program will be 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. in the Genealogy Center’s Learning Lab. Haynes and Julie Knudson of DeKalb County Soil and Water District will lead the group on an adventure with a water molecule as it makes its never-ending incredible journey through the world and atmosphere. Join the group for an afternoon filled with rain, wind and all things weather! American Girls & Boys Camps June 3-July 1 Beginning Monday, April 29, boys and girls entering 3rd grade and above for the next school year may register for fun, educational American history camps. Campers will meet weekly to explore the American Revolution, Northwest Expansion, Pre-Civil War South and the 1940s through games, crafts, foods and mini-history lessons. Reading incentives and prizes will be awarded.

The registration fee is $15 and camps fill up quickly. Contact the Children’s Department for more information, 925-2414 extension 320.
