PBL Reward Day Last day of Term 3
The look of excitement of printmaking in 5L
Dear Parents and Community Members,
It certainly is hard to believe that we have 2 weeks left of Term 3 and students will soon be on school holidays again. Please remember when planning family holidays that school resumes on Monday 14th October and there is no Staff Development Day in Term 4.
Save the Date—Grandparents Day 2019
Grand Parents Day will be held on Monday 28th October to coincide with the official National Grandparents Day on Sunday 27th October.
Students and staff are certainly are looking forward to grandparents and friends visiting so they can share their achievements.
Attendance
As we come to end of term, it is timely to remind parents and students that the last day of school is actually the Friday. Typically we have a large number of unexplained absences and I kindly ask parents to please write notes explaining absences to their class teachers.
Year 1 Excursions
The positive feedback from the Year 1 excursion was amazing. Students tell me that it was a fantastic excursion with the clear highlight being the park. Mrs Higgin’s was hopeful it was going to be the theatre, the kids did like this, but….. as we all know kids love playing and the park was a winner. Imagine what it will be like when the new park opens in Gunnedah.
Debating
Well done to Gunnedah South Red and Grey debating teams. It is amazing that both of our teams are equal zone champions. I wonder which team will make it through to regional?
I am looking forward to a fantastic debate in the coming weeks and know it will be really close.
Titanium Awards Fortnight
Over the next two weeks, students who have achieved Titanium awards throughout 2019 will celebrate their success with reward lunches. We have over 40 students who have reached this high level of personal achievement. Mrs Walsh, Mrs Walters and I are looking forward to celebrating with students, their accomplishments.
Updating Your Address
We kindly ask that if you have moved since the beginning of the year or your phone number has changed, you update your address on our school system, if you haven’t already done so.
Continuing Enrolments for 2020
If your child is leaving our school and will not require a place at Gunnedah South Public School in 2020 can you please let the office know immediately. We are currently organising class structures for 2020, so it is essential that we are informed of any students who are leaving. Similarly, if you know of any new students moving into the area who are zoned to GSPS, please let them know to enrol now for 2020.
Hat Reminder
Please be kind to your child and ensure they wear a school hat everyday. Currently we are noticing an increasing number of students who don’t bring a school hat each day.
Our school is a sun smart school and we encourage students to wear hats everyday when in the sun with the aim to reduce skin cancer for our students in later life. We kindly ask parents to ensure their child has a school hat everyday.
2020 Planning
We have commenced planning dates for 2020 and would like some parent feedback regarding the change of date for the Term 3 Staff Development Day. Can parents please provide feedback to me either in person, through the Skoolbag App or through our school email address. This will determine whether we repeat the variation of SDD for Agquip in 2020.
Uniform Transition Period – Winter to Summer
Currently the temperature is fluctuating between hot and cold so parents and carers are encouraged to make the decision whether students wear winter or summer uniform for the remainder of the term.
The date for all students to wear summer uniform is Monday 14th of October. Uniform changes will be advertised in the 2020 calendar which will be sent to families at the beginning of next year.
Don’t forget that our school stocks the full range of school uniforms.
Lost Property
We are asking for your physical help to find a home for the large and growing number of lost property items, that have found themselves without an owner in our school lost property bins.
Students and parents can find lost property items:
Infants lost property can be found in the coloured bins outside KH Classrooms.
Primary lost property can be found in the giant trol-ley under the Primary Cola.
All unclaimed items will be washed and donated to local charities at the end of this term.
Finally, congratulations to all students who participated in the S Factor heats. I was particularly impressed with the large student audiences that supported their peers. As always, there is so much talent, and I certainly do not envy the judges, who are responsible for scoring student performances. A big thank you to all judges and everyone involved in running this fantastic opportunity for our students.
As always, we value feedback. Please do not hesitate to contact myself or our school staff through the Skoolbag App, our school email, phone or even in person.
Have a restful weekend.
Kindest regards,
Pete Baum

MERIT CERTIFICATES
In 2015 Gunnedah South students were fortunate to do a dry point etching workshop conducted be Sydney printmaker, Bernhardine Mueller.
The students’ work was then compiled into two concertina booklets, “Gunnedah Old and New” by Shirley Urquhart.
These books are currently on display as part of an exhibition called “The Gallery with the Most Stories”
being held at the Bicentennial Gallery at the Civic until October 6th.
Be sure not to miss seeing these attractive books on display.
