Freshly Scratched 7th December 2012 | 7pm – 11pm
Dear Artists,
We are now accepting proposals for Freshly Scratched, which will form part of BAC’s Christmas Cook Up season. Freshly Scratched is for artists and companies who have never worked professionally at BAC before.
What is Freshly Scratched?
Freshly Scratched is an opportunity to try out fresh theatrical ideas in front of an audience. Each idea will be in an early stage of development and will be presented for no longer than 10 minutes. Usually three or four 10 minute pieces will be programmed alongside each other creating an evening of rough and ready flashes of inspiration mixed in with glorious failures. At the core of BAC’s Freshly Scratched, unlike other showcase-based events, is a genuine interest in exploring an idea in front of an audience, taking risks with the material presented and using audience feedback in order to help think through the next steps in developing the work. For the right work at the right time, they are a unique opportunity. We will select 18 proposals for the performance day. Each proposal should describe the seed of an idea that they wish to Scratch in front of a supportive, enthusiastic and critical audience.
Themes
As a provocation to artists the work will be loosely themed around one of these ideas;
New Beginnings – new ideas, new worlds, new things, new people
Growing Up – learning, transition, experience
Change – imagine, invention, challenge, protest, fighting for a cause
Performance Space
In the spirit of Playgrounding at BAC – our encouragement to artists to engage with the unique architecture of our building – we are offering a choice of spaces for artists to Scratch their ideas in. Attached to this application pack are plans of these spaces and you can also request jpegs by emailing Katy on [email protected]. Please start your subject line with ‘Freshly Scratched Xmas’.
