Using state-of-the-art technologies, INGETEAM manufactures ad-hoc solutions invariable speed drives for sectors such as industry, marine, oil and gas, water, power generation,etc.

IntroductionINGEDRIVE® is a family of low- and medium-voltage modular AC drives designed for demandingsingle-motor or multi-motor applications handling and controlling synchronous, asynchronous-induction, and permanent magnet motors. These drives are suitable for four-quadrant operation,driving and braking in both rotational directions.

INGEDRIVE® is designed to be a highly-efficient drive which significantly reduces energyconsumption. Its modular design enables it to cover a wide range of powers and voltages whileits intuitive structure makes it easy to use and maintain.

Years of experience have made it possible to incorporate two- and three-level advanced vectorcontrol into low- and medium-voltage rectifiers and inverters, always using latest generationsemiconductors. The powerful CCU (Converter Control Unit) communicates with power stacksvia optic fibre. The result is a compact, flexible, safe, and user-friendly solution.

INGEDRIVE® is available with power ratings up to 27 MVA, from 400V to 690V in low voltageand 2.3 KV to 4.16KV in medium voltage, offering great performance, robustness, reliability, andlong life expectancy.

Wide range of powers and voltages: the use of different types of semiconductor for eachrange, as well as appropriate topologies makes it possible to provide the best solution foralmost any application.

Modular design: the modular design upon which the INGEDRIVE® family is based makes itpossible to design a “Custom-Made Configuration” for each client and application.

Flexibility: this is achieved thanks to the combination of base modules (power stacks), whichallows you to choose between DFE (6, 12, 18 or 24 pulses) and AFE (Active Front End)topologies and different inverter modules for single- or multi-motor solutions according toclient requirements.

Control architecture: the control system is based on two elements - the CCU (Converter ControlUnit) and the PMM (Power Management Module) associated to each of the power stackscombined with which a wide range of configurations can be achieved. Futhermore, thishardware facilitates easy expansion of I/O capacity and communication modules.

Easy to maintain: maintenance tasks are reduced to a minimum, thanks to standard andcustomised diagnostics systems (intuitive HMI). The system also includes the web serverfunctional feature for remote analysis, together with our technical department, of possiblefailures thus minimising repair times and increasing system availability.

High quality: all parts and elements used in the drives are selected according to optimumquality and improvement concepts, thus extending the availability and life expectancy of thedrive system as a whole.

Safety: INGEDRIVE® is based in our Safety Drive Cabinet (SDC) system. There is also astandard key interlock system to avoid inadequated access to low- and medium-voltage drivefamilies. Other safety features also include flame retardant properties and halogen free wiringand cable ducts.

Standards: the entire INGEDRIVE® converter family complies with the most stringent internationalstandards. The high quality of our equipment enables us to attain certification from the mostrenowned classification bodies, such as Lloyd’s Register, DNV, ABS and BV.

Topologies and ConfigurationsINGEDRIVE® offers different configuration options depending on your needs, such as non-regenerative systems, 6, 12, 18 or 24-pulse DFE or AFE regenerative systems, as follows:

· LV200 (low-voltage AC drive based on IGBTs and air cooled)6P DFE, 12P DFE, AFE as standard.

· LV400 (low-voltage AC drive based on IGBTs and water cooled)6P DFE, 12P DFE, AFE as standard.

· MV100 (medium-voltage AC drive, based on HV-IGBT modules. Air and water cooled).12P DFE, 24P DFE, AFE as standard.

· MV500 (medium-voltage AC drive, based on IGCTs and water cooled)12P DFE, 24P DFE, AFE as standard.

N.B.: The AFE topology makes it possible to work with a unit power factor with negligible harmonics throughoutthe application's entire functional range. A further advantage in AFE systems is the regeneration of the motor's

kinetic energy during braking, resulting in a highly-efficient configuration.

INGEDRIVE® can be applied to different sectors and custom made to specific requirements.It can control motors with one or several windings and cater to the needs of redundant, single-motor and multi-motor solutions.

Parallel connection of several inverters to the same motor is feasible allowing higher converteroutput. You can also connect several AFEs in parallel to the same DC bus so that more powercan be handled.

· Single-drive solution: a standard application consisting of one motorwith a winding fed through a DFE orAFE converter.

· Redundant single-drive solution: anapplication consisting of a motor withtwo windings fed by two inverters. The rectifier side can be DFE or AFE.

· Multi-drive solution: Multi-motor application in which several invertersare connected to one common DC bus. While some motors can be braking, others can be driving, thustransferring energy between themselves through the DC bus (i.e.tension reels in cold rolling mills).

Type of ControlUsing the most advanced Digital Signal Processor Techniques, INGEDRIVE® offers high-power,highly-reliable, smooth torque control throughout the whole speed range, using the latest controltechniques.

Its powerful CCU has two microprocessors: one is designed to perform all functions related tocontrolling the converter and the other is a PLC (in accordance with IEC 61131) for performingall the drive system's logic functions.

The CCU communicates with the various power stacks (rectifiers and inverters) via an optic fibrelink called PMM Link, thus electrically isolating the drive power side from the control side andavoiding potential ground noise. It is designed for both basic solutions and highly-complex onesby expanding the number of I/Os locally and remotely and with the option of adding differentcommunication modules.

Furthermore, the control system as a whole can handle and adapt to a wide variety of applicationsand configuration options. For example, motors can be controlled with or without speed sensors,as well as redundant encoder systems.

The flying restart function is available for applications where motors are with or without encoders(with a patented encoderless speed detection), allowing smooth re-coupling between the loadand the drive.

Embedded PLCAs a further internal feature included in the basic configuration, IEC 61131 PLC functions arealso possible within the drive, allowing the client to adapt the application optimally. The driveoptionally offers you several I/Os that can be in the CCU or can be placed remotely. These I/Oscan be configured by the client. Therefore, the drive can be adapted as wished to practicallyany application.

Human Machine Interface (HMI)INGEDRIVE® is easy to use via the Operator panel and PC's powerful user-friendly interfacesoftware, which supports monitoring, configuration, diagnostics, control, data recording, andcommissioning either locally or remotely when necessary.

The system runs as a web application with no need for any special software on your PC. Instead,once connected via the Ethernet link, the drive will supply your PC with the necessary software.Different password levels are available for data and parameter protection and data-programupload/download procedures are straightforward.

Communication BusesThe system offers RS-485 and Ethernet as basic communication modules. Any communicationprotocol based on these communications lines, such as Profibus-DP, Modbus TCP, CAN, etc.,are available on request.

ProtectionOur equipment includes the following types of drive protection: Overcurrent, earth fault, outputshort-circuit, overload, overspeed, over-/under-voltage, overheating, semiconductor fault, coolingsystem fault, imbalance between motor phases, disconnected rectifier or inverter phases, waterleakage, etc.

INGEDRIVE® can automatically reduce motor power, when the energy source (i.e. diesel generatorplants in vessels) cannot cope with circumstances, thus preventing blackouts in weak powerlines (blackout prevention function).

Cooling SystemsThe INGEDRIVE® family offers converters cooled by air or by water (fresh water or sea water).Our water-cooled equipment is manufactured in stainless steel. Standard elements in medium-voltage equipment include non-conductive pipes. There is also a range of options such as rapidconnectors, three-way valves for regulating the incoming temperature, redundant deionisingsystems for medium-voltage drives and redundant pumps.

All parameters such as water conductivity for medium-voltage drives, pressure, temperature,and leakage are constantly monitored.

Design tipsJust some of the features that demonstrate the quality of our INGEDRIVE® equipment are asfollows:

· Tin-plated copper busbars.· Stainless steel pipes.· Polypropylene power capacitors as standard, providing longer life expectancy.· Large harmonic filters plus higher semiconductor switching frequency, further minimizing THD

content.· Electronic board varnishing, minimizing potentially dangerous conductive dust short-circuits.· Individual industrial processors for motor control (DSP) and for drive system control (PLC in

accordance with IEC 61131).· Electric cabinets are from renowned, leading worldwide manufacturers.· Anti-condensation heaters to prevent the appearance of dangerous drops of moisture.

Maintenance and SafetyOur range of INGEDRIVE® converters has been specifically designed to minimise and facilitatemaintenance tasks, not only in terms of fault detection and analysis but also through hardwaredesign. User safety is a priority during all usage and maintenance tasks, for example, chargingand discharging capacitor energy in a controlled and safe manner.

QualityIntensive TestingIn addition to several quality testing stages during parts production, all finished drives are testedup to full current and voltage before being shipped.
