3BUSINESS SWEDEN  | FRENCH–SWEDISH EXECUTIVE SEMINAR ON VALUE-BASED HEALTHCARE  |

DEAR FRIENDS,France and Sweden have a longstanding close relationship. The first trade agreement between our countries was signed as early as 1498. Trade remains a central ingredient of our bilateral relations. Today France ranks among the ten most important markets for Swedish imports and exports. Swed-ish companies in France employ around 100 000 persons. An important theme in our bilateral cooperation is research and innovation.

As Sweden’s Ambassador to France I am very happy to host this executive seminar aiming towards increased intellectual and commercial exchange in the important field of value-based health care. Our two countries both rank highly in in-ternational comparisons of health care systems and we share many challenges and opportunities. One of these challenges is the growth in demand for, and cost of, health care services. We also see that the quality and outcome of investments in health care can vary greatly between different care facili-ties and geographical locations. A common opportunity we share is the increasingly involved and well-informed patient ready to be an engaged partner and co-producer in the development of health care. These aspects have the potential to fundamentally change the way we think about quality and efficiency in care.

I look forward to deepen and develop the partnership be-tween Sweden and France in the field of health. By working together we can both develop our national health systems and find ways to tackle common health challenges to im-prove health outcomes that matter to all.

Yours sincerely, Veronika Wand-Danielsson Ambassador of Sweden to France

Sweden is one of the most prosperous and healthy countries in the world. But there are health disparities between various groups nonetheless. This is serious, but what is even more troubling is that these disparities are growing. To turn this trend around, the Govern-ment has set a goal to eliminate avoidable health inequalities within a generation.

ASTRAZENECAAt AstraZeneca, our purpose is to push the boundaries of science to deliver life-changing medicines. We believe the best way we can achieve this is to put science at the centre of everything we do. It is this commitment that drives our ability to discover, develop and deliver the advancements the world needs in complex and difficult diseases like cancer, heart disease, diabetes, COPD and asthma.

For us, the discovery of medicines starts with our rare combination of scientific capabilities in small molecules and biologics, immuno-therapies, protein engineering technologies, oligonucleotides and devices. When combined with our strong focus on translational sci-ence and personalised healthcare, we believe that we have a unique and strong foundation for speeding novel, targeted therapies from biologic concept to care.

We know that the best science doesn’t happen in isolation - it hap-pens through collaboration. That is why we seek to work so exten-sively with scientific, academic and healthcare organisations around the world - from the earliest discovery work in our research labs, to our clinical trial programmes and to joint working with health care providers to achieve optimal treatment outcomes.

We also take smart risks in developing and applying new technolo-gies which help us to explore new mechanisms of action and create new types of treatments. It is when our scientists are empowered to follow these transformative areas of science that we see the most significant breakthroughs.
