This being a small town in Western PA, we’re not going to put on airs and pretend it’s Chicago or LA. But despite its size, this quaint college town has more than its share of fine eating establishments. The goal here is to spotlight a few, encourage you to try something(s) new, and perhaps educate and agitate a bit. This is only one in a series of features we’ll be presenting over the course of the year; so take it for what it is, in the spirit of culinary adventure and local exploration. My personal summertime favorite from Harpoon is the Harpoon UFO Raspberry Hefeweizen. Originating in Bavaria over 400 years ago, Hefe is German for yeast and Weizen means wheat. The unfiltered yeast remains in suspension, giving this style its signature cloudy color and a soft mouthfeel. UFO Raspberry Hefeweizen pours a pinkish amber color with a nice pinkish head that shows medium-light

retention (retention refers to a beer’s ability to maintain its head). Lasting streaks of foam lace the sides of the glass. Drinkers will experience a blast of nice, tart raspberry aroma, with some light wheat backing coming through at the end. This Hefeweizen’s light mouthfeel is accompanied by the just the right carbonation for this style of beer. The raspberry never becomes overpowering, making this a pleasing summertime beer for all occasions.
