Life (1/2)

• He was born in Rohrau (Austria) the 31 of March of 1732

• He started his musical career at the age of 6 years

• In 1740 he moved to Viena for being a chorister* in the St. Stephen Cathedral

• In 1749 he madured physically and he wasn´t able to sing in a children choir and he become a freelancer*

* A person who sings in a choir* A person who works without bosses or masters

• After his works as freelancer he started to work for some aristocrats like Countess Thun, Baron Carl Josef Fürnberg and Count Morzin

• In 1766 he become Kapellmeister* of the Esterházy family

* The music director of a orchestra

Family

• His father was Mathias Haydn a wheelwright* and he sometimes worked as Marktrichter*

• Haydn´s mother, Maria, was a cook in the palace of Count Harrach

• His brother was Johann Michael Haydn. He was also an Austrian composer * Someone who makes and repairs wooden

wheels

* A job similar to a village mayor

Rohrau

• This village was the place of birth of Haydn• It´s situated in Austria near the border with

Hungary• While he was living in Rohrau the pressiding

aristocrat was Count Harrach

Works (1/2)

• Some people thought he was the father of the simphony and some others thought so of the string quartet

• The most important characteristic of his music was that he made huge ongs with very simple motifs

• He was an expert in sonatas and string quartets but he also wrote some concertos, masses etc…

• His sonatas are recopilated in the Hoboken Catalogue

Curiosities

• He had a great sense of humor, because he was always making jokes, even in some concerts

• He had an ilness called smallpox* and his face was deformed but in spite of that he had the love of some pretty women
