President’s PERSPECTIVEThe month of October is a busy one for IDCTA. The club is getting ready for elections, organizing the annual awards banquet, tabulat-ing year end awards, preparing for the upcoming Kristie Wysocki Clinic, and looking forward to the start of our new calendar year (beginning December 1). In October, you will be getting an electronic ballot to cast your vote for board members. The ballot will come as a survey with voting instructions at the top. The survey will go to IDCTA members only, and I encourage you to vote when you get it. The board members who are running have submitted bios which appear in this month’s Scribe. Please take a few minutes to read the bios, and be sure to vote when you receive the ballot.

If you are submitting forms for this year’s end of year rankings, they are due on October 31 and need to be submitted along with your Volunteer Hours Report form, or your $50 donation to IDCTA in lieu of the required volunteer hours. All end of year report forms are in-cluded in this month’s Scribe, and can also be found at http://www.idcta.org/awards/year-end-awards/.

Plans for the awards banquet are fi rming up, and we are looking forward to a wonderful evening of socializing, dining and honor-ing those who have qualifi ed for year end awards. It will be held on January 21, 2017, so please mark your calendars. Invitations will go out electronically in November, and will be followed by the tradi-tional, mailed invitation. We will provide a link to sign up and pay electronically, both on the website and in the November Scribe. You will also receive a request for Raffl e items in November. The proceeds of the raffl e cover our banquet expenses and educational programs,

so please consider donating goods and/or services. We will also be seeking photos to include in a slide show during the banquet, so start gathering your show pictures!

The IDCTA Kristi Wysocki Clinic will be held on November 18-20, 2016 at Sunfl ower Farms. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn about selecting your next Dressage horse. Kristi will present a lecture on Friday night, followed by riding on Saturday and Sunday. Kristi presented this clinic at the USDF Dressage Convention this year to a standing-room-only crowd, and was so well-received that it lasted much longer than its scheduled time. Her skill in presenting this rather complicated subject helps demystify the process. I was lucky enough to attend the lecture and I recommend it to everyone. Mark your calendars for this awesome event!

In 2017, we are already planning many clinics and activities. Lilo Fore will be visiting us again for another clinic, and we are working to get George Williams back, as well. Olympian Debbie McDonald will coming to IDCTA in the fall, and we are working on a couple of other clinicians, too. The eventing committee is planning many new activities, and possibly an event. It appears the coming year will be rich with IDCTA riding opportunities and educational possibilities. These activities don’t happen by themselves; p lease remember we are looking for new Dressage, Eventing and Schooling Show Com-mittees members to help us expand our thinking and planning. Suggestions are always welcome.

Until next month, Happy and Safe Riding!

Eventing Committee will pull scores from USEA in order to tabulate IDCTA year end awards. The USEA number

in a member’s profi le will help identify menbers who have competed during the year and belong to both USEA

and IDCTA. A complete explanation will be posted on the website in the next few weeks. Don’t miss out on your

Molly Fine: President

Molly Fine started riding dressage about 25 years ago. Originally an event rider, dressage was originally just an afterthought. As she and her horse progressed, however, it became clear that to win at eventing, you had to know and practice dressage. Since then, she has been pursuing dressage as an avocation. She has recently returned to the show ring at 4th Level and PSG. She has earned her Bronze and Silver Medals in Dressage. Molly has taken her love of dressage and begun to give back to the sport through her positions on the IDCTA board, recently as chair of the Membership Committee and then VP of Dressage, and currently as President. Molly’s contribu-tions also include the development and ongoing management of the website, managing the IDCTA Recognized Summer Dressage Shows, and organizing IDCTA clinics.

Denise Ingeman: VP of Dressage.

Denise Ingeman has been an IDCTA member since 2008. She has served on the board during much of her membership, taking on many diff erent roles as needed. She brings high energy and strong organizational and analytical skills to every position she has held.

In 2015, Denise was honored to receive the IDCTA’s President’s Rec-ognition Award.

She is a team player and is devoted to supporting the IDCTA in its mission to improve the understanding of dressage and eventing theories and skills through clinics and educational events.

At this time, Denise would like to humbly off er her services to the IDCTA membership as the VP of Dressage.

Alison Volpentesta: VP of Eventing

Alison is an amatuer eventer from Wadsworth, Illinois. Alison has been an active competitor at the national level in reining and eventing. Eventing became a primary focus in 2010, and she has since then

earned a Certifi cate of Achievement at Beginner Novice Horse and Rider, a Gold Medal at Beginner Novice and Novice, IDCTA Champion Adult Amateur Novice, and 8th place Area IV Novice Amatuer Rider. Alison has had a passion for horses and equestrian sports from the early age of three. Since then, horses have played an important role in her life. This passion was passed down from her mother, who has also ridden horses form a very early age who was a rider in the Pan American Eventing Games in 1958. She also qualifi ed for the Medals class at Madison Square Garden.

Alison has passed on her love of horses on to her daughter, whom she events and foxhunts with. Alison is a United States Pony Club graduate. In 2011, some parents, family and friends helped start a Pony Club in the North Central Prairie Region (Old Mill Creek Pony Club). Alison has been the District Commissioner for the past three years. “I feel that being in Pony Club has made me the knowledgeable horse person I am today, and I want to pass it along to everyone who has the same love for horses I have!”

Alison has been the manager of Don Bar Farm in Wadsworth for over 20 years. Don Bar is home to more than 100 horses across a number of disciplines. In support of dressage, eventing, and other disciplines, Don Bar regularly hosts clinics and guest trainers to expand train-ing opportunities in Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin. A number of equestrian non-profi t organizations hold events at Don Bar each year.

Kristi is a USEF licensed ‘S’ Dressage Judge, ‘R’ Dressage Sport Horse Judge and an FEI 3* PARA Dressage Judge. Her students have also competed successfully through the Grand Prix Level. Several students also have their bronze, silver, and/or gold medals. She has judged many USDF Regional Championships and Breeder Series Finals including Dressage at Devon, NEDA, CDS – Region 7 Lamplight – Region 3 and the new Global Dressage in Florida.

She serves as the USDF Sport Horse Committee chair, is a member of the USDF Sport Horse Seminal Faculty, the USEF Dressage Committee, the USEF PARA Equestrian FEI PARA Equestrian FEI and National Affiliates Committee, and has been a member of the United States PARA Dressage Selection Committee.

Kristi Wysocki is from Colorado, where she and her husband own and run Somewhere Farms and Eagle’s Wing Equine Therapy and Rehab Center. The center is designed to help horses recovering from surgeries and injuries to heal more quickly and successfully. Ms. Wysocki earned her degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Colorado School of Mines and has worked as an engineer for fifteen years prior to returning her focus to riding and training of dressage horses. She has competed several horses to the FEI levels, winning many regional and local championships through Grand Prix level including her USDF Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. She has also successfully competed in the CDI arena with multiple horses.

She takes a unique perspective when teaching, using both her engineering background and sport horse expertise to help her students understand the horse bio-mechanically. This can often simplify the concept for the rider and make it easier for them to understand and attempt the task at hand. She tries to help her students understand what is happening bio-mechanically so they in turn can communicate with the horse with more logical, clarified aids.

IDCTA Grant ProgramThe IDCTA Board of Directors has updated our Grant Program for our membership. We are very excitedabout this program and hope that more IDCTA members begin sending in applications for upcomingclinics, whether IDCTA, USEA, USDF or USEF sanctioned.

As always, the funds must be used for tuition only. IDCTA members can qualify every two years. Toqualify for a grant, clinics must be with trainers from greater than 100 miles from the Chicagoland area. The clinics must be produced by IDCTA, USEA, USDF, USEF or must be an approved clinic. In return,IDCTA asks that the recipient of the grant write a detailed article about the clinic for the next issue ofthe Scribe. The article should be a minimum of one typed page and may include photographs (pleaseprovide photographer credit).

Other qualifications are as follows: An applicant must be a member in good standing of IDCTA for aminimum of six months at the time the clinic is to be held. An application and copy of the clinic entrymust be submitted a minimum of 60 days prior to the opening date of the clinic. This will allow theBoard of Directors enough time to review and vote on the applicant's request at the next boardmeeting.

One grant per clinic may be awarded. Not every qualified clinic will be awarded a grant. The two mainfactors that will be considered when awarding grants are the following: IDCTA volunteer hours totalinga minimum of 5 in the past calendar year and each applicant’s past riding experience without regardfor number of shows entered or success in the show ring.

The amount funded by IDCTA per clinic is $200, or the cost of the clinic tuition, whichever is less. Thegrant funds may only be used for the clinic the applicant anticipates participating in as a rider, and notan auditor. Funds may not be used for stabling, hauling or other associated expenses, other than thecost of the clinic tuition. Grant funding may vary each year depending on the amount available andnumber of qualified applicants, and will be awarded on a first come, first served basis. Funds not usedin a given year will be rolled over to the next year.

In cases where the grant recipient does not participate in the requested clinic or an article is notsubmitted within a month of participating in the clinic, the funds granted shall be returned to IDCTAimmediately. This will allow the money to be used for another applicant.

All grant applicants will be notified of the decision by phone or email after the board has voted. Checkswill be mailed to the applicant only after the Scribe article has been received.
