Scripture & Stations of the Cross
Join us on Friday nights before Staons of the Cross if you
want to hear how God speaks to you directly through
Scripture. Each week Deacon Joe will provide an
opportunity forLeco Divina. In Chrisanity, Leco Divina
(Lan for "Divine Reading") is a tradional Benedicne
pracce of scriptural reading, meditaon, and prayer
intended to promote communion with God and to increase
the knowledge of God's word. It does not treat scripture as
texts to be studied, but as the living Word.

GOSPEL MEDITATION
ENCOURAGE DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE
Repentance. Envy. Joy. Hope. Have you felt these human
emoons? Today's Gospel offers a rich story, one we can all find our
place in. As we reflect on our own spiritual lives this Lenten season,
it can be helpful to imagine ourselves in the story of the Prodigal
Son.
"I no longer deserve to be called your son; treat me as you would
treat one of your hired workers." The younger son has sinned
greatly, betraying his father's trust and squandering his money in
sin. Yet the parable turns on his deep repentance and humble return
to his father. Is there any area of your life you have been wandering
from God or you've squandered good giAs? This Lent, return to the
sacrament of Confession! God, a merciful Father, waits for you
there.
"While he was sll a long way off, his father caught sight of him,
and was filled with compassion. He ran to his son, embraced him
and kissed him." The father in the parable sees his son's selfishness,
perhaps even suspects what he might do, but gives him the
inheritance anyway. AAer his son's departure, the father waits with
hope for his son's eventual return. Has someone you love leA the
Church, made poor decisions, or abused your trust? This Lent is a
me to let go of biJerness and to live in hope. Prepare your heart to
be merciful!
Not all in the parable invite the mercy of God into their hearts.
The selfrighteous older brother dishonors his father with his
peLness. "My son, you are here with me always, everything I have is
yours." Do you covet what others have? Do you feel as if you've
been taken advantage of or that your work goes unseen? This Lent is
a me to grow in gratude. Take a close look at the blessings in our
life that you might be missing.
We are all called to repentance. Open your heart to God's personal
invitaon to growth!

How will you RISE UP this Lent/Easter?
W,-. /01 L,34567/0 87 G88: F56:,4
You are invited to walk the labyrinth in St Paul’s gym right before or
right aAer the Good Friday service at St Paul. The labyrinth is a very
old way of praying while you walk. Praying the labyrinth is a way to
get closer to Jesus. You can think of it as taking a walk with God or
with Jesus. While you walk, you might think about what Jesus wants
you to do, how he wants
you to live. While you
are walking in, you can
think of what you need
to leave behind. What
things in your life keep
you from being close to
God? When you reach
the center, you might
just sit or stand and rest
for a few minutes. Listen
and feel for God's
presence within
you. What do you want
to say to Jesus? Then
you simply follow the path back out. On the way out you might
think about what Jesus wants you to do in your life. Is God calling
you to help a certain person or be kinder in a special way? This can
be a beauful, silent, reflecve me with our Lord, please come and
see: Good Friday, April 19, mes: 11:4512:45 and 23:30.

THE PLACE WHERE YOU STAND IS HOLY GROUND.
Our Parish Mission (3/1112) was video recorded, you can access
both evenings of prayer and reflecon on the parish website. If you
have an interest in learning more about the subjects Dr. Dan Scholz
shared, he has wriJen several books about Jesus, Paul's leJers and
the New Testament. We hope that you connue to reflect on holy
ground. Here are some thoughts from fellow parishioners: *Very
engaging. *Learned so much about St Paul that I never heard before.
*Really liked how he explained me/geographicalenvironment
comparing to Wisconsin geography, was extremely helpful. *Never
would have thought that Jesus was so small in stature. Always be-
lieved he was a towering physical person. *Very thought provoking,
made me want to know more on certain topics. *Really brought
some stories we all knew from previous teachings to life, helped
placed you in the moment/me. *To find Holy Ground, I have to
start by acknowledging that I sin. It is easy to see others' sin, hard to
acknowledge my own. Reflecng on this a lot. *People who were
transformed by their encounters with Jesus remembered and passed
on the stories in great detail. Who has transformed my life like Dan
Scholz's 4th grade teacher? How has Jesus transformed my life?
What blessings in my life have come from these transformaons?
What stuck with you?

WHY DO WE DO THAT?
CATHOLIC TRADITION EXPLAINED
Ques on: What is holy water and how do I explain the reason that
it is placed at the entrances of churches to my nonCatholic friends?
Answer: Holy water is a sacramental, a reminder of the life of the
Church expressed and celebrated through the sacraments. God's
grace is mediated through word and gesture (the outward signs).
This comes to us through Jesus (instuted by Christ) as he entrusts
to the Church his saving mission (to give grace). In turn the Church,
through the sacraments, shares that grace and mission with us.
On Ash Wednesday, we receive ashes on our foreheads to remind
us of our origins, humbly created from the dust. But by blessing
ourselves with holy water, we are reminded of our desny! We are
bapzed sons and daughters of God. This is also a call to conversion,
to live more fully our bapsmal call to live as disciples of Jesus. We
see holy water whenever we renew our bapsmal promises. This
will occur during the Easter liturgy as well, reminding us that we are
indeed on a journey of faith and renewed in Christ. Blessing
ourselves with holy water reminds us that we are bapzed into a
community faith, and always in need of turning from sin and toward
God. Holy water is a visible sign of our bapsm!

INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK

God does not coerce us into anything.
Rather, He gives us the freedom and the
means to live like adults, taking responsi-
bility for our choices and the direc0on
our lives take. As our loving Father, He
desires that our home be made with Him
but understands when we choose to
pursue our own passions and desires,
which lead us away from Him. We have
to learn our own lessons if conversion is
to be tangible and real. We cannot re-
turn to God simply because we are told
to or because we are expected to. We
have to come to God freely, and when
we do, God is there with loving, open
arms ready to welcome us back home.
We can celebrate because we were dead
and have found life again!
