Jayco running a caravan of Toyota forklifts
Jayco, manufacturer of Australian-made
recreational vehicles, has held a relationship with
TMHA since 1999.
Jayco recently purchased an additional three
reach trucks which have become a regular and
reliable part of Jayco’s everyday operation at its
Dandenong distribution centre.
Jayco warehouse manager Owen Donohue
said Toyota’s comprehensive after-sales service
makes it easy for Jayco.
“Bruce Symons, our Area Sales Manager from
Toyota Material Handling in Melbourne makes
regular contact with us, so whenever we need
to ask questions or get information, we get a
prompt, accurate and reliable response,” Mr
Donohue said.
“The BT reach trucks play an integral part of
our day to day line replenishment process. Our
warehouse and stores operation sees over 300
pallets of stock each day.”
Jayco’s operations require their reach-trucks to
run at full capacity for eight hours a day in order
to get all stock received, stacked and prepared
for delivery.
“This stock needs to be stored in racks four levels
high and it is critical to receive and store our
manufacturing stock without delay, so reliability
of equipment is paramount in helping us achieve
our goals.
“The controls are simple, smooth to operate and
uncomplicated, which is important when training
new staff.
“If there have been issues, all of the parts have
been readily available for prompt replacement
and the on-site service team is second to none.
“Equipment downtime is not an option for us.
The BTs start first time, run all day in all weather
conditions and require very little maintenance to
keep them running smoothly.
“Battery life on these units has been virtually
trouble-free. They are recharged overnight and
are ready to run straight up, even after long
weekends, holiday periods or simply day to day.”
In a demonstration of the longevity of TMHA’s
BT product, the first reach truck that Jayco
purchased in 1999 is still going strong today.
Recently, when it was necessary to purchase
additional equipment, the warehouse staff were
asked which forklifts they preferred to use.
Whilst there are still a handful of non-Toyota
forklifts in the Jayco operation, the workforce was
very clear about which ones they prefer to use.
“The answer unequivocally was the BT reach
trucks,” said Mr Donohue.
“Ease of operation, functionality and reliability
were the standout factors that Jayco were looking
for in making the decision, and the BTs tick all the
boxes.”
Jayco was founded in 1975 and remains a family-
owned company dedicated to manufacturing in
Australia.
Now in its fourth decade, Jayco is one of the
most recognised brands in Australia and one
of the great success stories of Australian
manufacturing.
Cameron Paxton, TMHA’s Southern Region
general manager says that Toyota works hard to
maintain its levels of customer service.
“Toyota has always been at the forefront of forklift
technician training in this country; in fact we
pioneered specialist TAFE training for Australia’s
forklift technicians.
“We have 60 technicians on the road every
day in Melbourne alone, giving us the ability to
meet our customers’ needs and expectations
around the clock, which is extremely important to
manufacturers such as Jayco who cannot afford
to have their production adversely affected.
“The relationship between TMHA and Jayco is
such a natural fit, as both companies are at the
forefront of their respective industries.”
A progressive Australian Recreational Vehicle manufacturer has extended its decade long partnership with Toyota Material Handling Australia (TMHA) by taking delivery of new BT reach truck forklifts.

The Australian Camry range will feature unique
model variants named Atara.
Toyota Camry debuts a new design with a more
spacious interior, improved driving dynamics and
an even quieter ride.
Every exterior body panel on Camry is new.
A new 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol
engine delivers more responsive
performance and better fuel
economy.
Camry will now
be fitted
with a
six-speed automatic transmission - replacing the
current generation’s five-speed.
Interior space has been further increased,
especially for rear-seat passengers.
Camry and Atara sedans for the Australian
market will be built at the company’s
manufacturing plant in the Melbourne suburb of
Altona.
New Camry, including Atara, will arrive in local
dealership showrooms from late November.
A new Camry Hybrid, also built in Australia, will
be released in the first quarter of 2012.
All new Camry models will be equipped
with vehicle stability control,
traction control, anti-
skid brakes,
brake
assist and electronic brake-force distribution.
Toyota Australia expects a strong five-star
ANCAP rating.
Toyota Australia’s senior executive director of
sales and marketing David Buttner said next-
generation Camry is a new-era car with more
sophistication and enhanced rational reasons for
purchase.
“Camry is the smart, safe and worry-free leader
of the Toyota brand - a symbol of Toyota’s
benchmark quality, durability and reliability,”
he said.
“The next-generation car
is intended to do
everything
better, which is important because our loyal
Camry owners have big expectations.”
Mr Buttner said the introduction of Atara would
add an extra dimension to the Camry brand,
appearing on Camry models targeted mainly at
private buyers and the user-chooser segment of
the fleet market.
“The introduction of Atara reflects the added
sophistication of the new range.
“Atara signifies that next-generation Camry
will continue to lead its segment with overall
specification, performance, quality and value that
are appreciated by Australian motorists,” he said.
Atara has two origins:
• A Hebrew word for “crown” - which is a natural
extension of Camry, which also means crown.
• A derivation of the Japanese
word “atarashii” which
means “new”.

Engineering the perfect blend of quality, performance and reliability was the driving force behind the 5SDK range of Toyota Huski skid steer loaders. Developed and tested in Australia, the Huski 5SDK features exceptional strength, manoeuvrability, and driver comfort, all backed by Toyota’s trusted reputation for delivering quality equipment and professional after sales support. Available in operating loads from 320kg – 900kg, you can be assured that there’s a Huski model guaranteed to put you at the head of the pack.
Giving our Aussie earth a shift in the right direction.
Doogs Dvorak of A Class Earthmoving
specialises in hot mix work, car parks, roads and
house pads.
He commissioned his third Toyota Huski
5SDK-8 (SSL) in August, three months after
commissioning an air-conditioned 5SDK-8.
The company now also has two trucks and a
hot-mix roller.
He founded his company in 2007 with a previous-
generation Huski 4SDK-8, after learning the skills
of SSL operating from his father, Peter.
Doogs Dvorak said he would have happily have
continued with the 4-Series model, until Toyota
Material Handling local area sales manager Dan
Rhodes convinced him to do an extended trial in
the new-generation 5-Series model.
“I was prepared to pay good money for another
4-Series, because they’re so good, but Dan kept
asking me to take the ‘demo’ 5-Series and spend
time in it,” he said.
“Dan wanted me to operate the 5-Series every
day, not switch back and forth with my 4-Series.
“I’m glad he insisted, because now I love the
5-Series,” he said.
“The 4-Series was bullet proof. After six months
of operating the 5-Series, I’m ‘sold’ on it. The new
design was definitely built for the operator.
“With a Toyota, you get what you pay for. In four
years, I’ve never had to lay a spanner on any of
my Huski skid-steer loaders – I’ve never had a
thing go wrong.”
Doogs Dvorak said he was also impressed with
the after-sales support Dan Rhodes has provided.
“Whatever I’ve needed, he has organised – be it
setting up buckets or sourcing tyres, he does the
extra yards to keep my business moving.”
Toyota’s 650kg operating load Huski 5SDK-8 is
one of six Huski skid-steer loader models offered
nationally by Toyota Material Handling. Models
range from the compact 4SDK-4 right up to the
900kg operating load 5SDK-11.
The Huski 5SDK-8 has a spacious cabin opening
for smooth entry and exit, along with an easy-
to-read instrument panel and low vibration and
low fatigue control levers, providing outstanding
operator comfort.
It has class-leading visibility and outstanding
manoeuvrability.

It is the first light duty truck in Australia with vehicle stability control (VSC) as a standard feature.
VSC is an additional layer of safety that assists the driver in maintaining control of the vehicle. It is designed to help prevent the vehicle from skidding out of control should it deviate from the driver’s intended path through a corner.
Standard passive equipment on all models includes SRS airbags for both driver and passenger coupled with emergency locking retracting (ELR) pretensioning seatbelts.
All new Hino 300 Series models have four-wheel ventilated disc brakes with ABS braking and electronic brake-force distribution (EBD).
Together these technologies ensure that maximum stopping power is available, regardless of how the vehicle is laden and the prevailing road conditions.
All manual transmission and AMT models have Hino’s ES (Easy Start) hill-start assist.
Easy Start maintains braking force after the driver takes their foot off the brake pedal and
automatically releases the brake once the clutch engages and the vehicle begins to move. Easy Start operates in both forward and reverse.
The 300 Series safety package also includes a front under-run protection system (FUPS) on all wide cabin models for the first time on a light-duty truck.
FUPS helps prevent a vehicle from going underneath a truck in the event of a front-on collision while also protecting the vehicle’s steering components, thereby assisting the driver to maintain control of the vehicle.
Hino’s new 300 Series meets the internationally recognised European Structural Standards Regulation No. 20 (ECE-R29) for cabin strength. (Hino’s entire range of light, medium and heavy duty trucks now comply with the ECE-R29 crash test standard.)
Special attention has been paid to maximising visibility and minimising blind spots. The windscreen pillars on new wide cab models are only 65mm wide, compared with 100mm or more
for its nearest competitors.
Power-operated and heated mirrors are standard equipment on all models.
Up to three rear-facing cameras are available as an option, with the image displayed on the dashboard via a new six-inch 2DIN liquid crystal display.
Attention to detail in safety features includes a tilt-cab warning lamp on all single cab models.
New exterior mirrors have been specified across the range, with a flat main mirror and convex spotter mirror for increased visibility.
Hino’s new-generation 300 Series has an increased number of model variants in both standard and wide cab, and a greater choice of crew cab models.
The entire range has been redesigned outside and inside, and was subject to record levels of Australian development input.
An expanded range of Hybrid 300 Series models will be launched later this year.

The move will provide a raft of benefits for its
new and existing forklift and skid steer loader
customers.
The branch has been based in Darra since
1988 and owned by Toyota Industries
Corporation (TICO) since 2003.
Dan Williams, Toyota Material Handling
Australia (TMHA) general manager Northern
Region, said the move will raise service levels,
reduce delivery times for new equipment and
improve technician training.
“The new 6000 square-metre workshop is state
of the art and three times the size of the current
premises and will have twice as many work
bays, as well as larger loading/unloading areas
and a customer waiting lounge,” he said.
“We expect the new workshop to increase
efficiencies through better organisation and by
providing higher service levels to our forklift and
Huski skid-steer loader customers.”
Mr Williams said the new premises will also
increase the speed of machine delivery by
bringing storage of new machines onto the
same site as the pre-delivery workshop.
“The new facility will have 30 repair service
bays and 30 pre-delivery bays, with space to
grow the workshop as required and also to
handle additional products in the future.”
The new workshop has a customer lounge,
spray booth, wash-bay using recycled water
and overhead gantry, as well as storage space
for new stock and short-term rental forklifts.
There is 1000m2 of office space, 6000m2 of
hard-stand area for loading and unloading, as
well as a new unit showroom and technician
training facility.
Mr Williams said TMH (QLD) has 95 staff,
including 60 technicians, eight apprentices,
six in spare parts, plus 13 in sales and eight in
operations.
Mr Williams’ grandfather, the late Sir Sydney
Williams, pioneered Toyota’s forklift operations
in 1986 under the name Willtrac.
The company moved base to Darra in 1988 and
was purchased by TICO in 2003.
The branch changed names to Toyota Material
Handling (QLD) in 2005 to reflect the full
product range of Toyota forklifts, skid-steer
loaders and towing tractors, BT Lift Trucks and
Raymond forklifts.

“Drivers in this segment demand a stylish and
luxurious vehicle without compromise, featuring
the latest in technology and smart thinking,”
said Lexus Australia chief executive, Tony
Cramb.
The new GS 350 features a redesigned chassis
and wide, strong stance that inspires and
rewards drivers with crisp and precise handling.
A key development goal was to deliver a
more spacious interior while leaving exterior
dimensions virtually unchanged.
A new personality and an invitation to drive
Lexus engineers ensured new GS provided a
more engaging driving experience via advanced
aerodynamics, a completely new platform
with a wider stance and stiffer structure, a
transmission with quicker shifts, distinctive
engine sound and exhaust notes, and better
seat support.
The all-new GS platform is more rigid compared
with the current model.
The track, wider by almost 50mm rear and
40mm front, works in combination with a new
suspension design to assure a solid
stance and superior
cornering performance.
Overall, the
suspension is lighter and stronger, allowing it to
react to driver input quickly while aiding
ride quality.
A personal driving experience
The new GS is powered by an advanced
3.5-litre all-alloy quad-cam, multi-valve V6,
featuring dual Variable Valve Timing with
intelligence (VVT-i), which replaces the previous
generation’s 183kW 3.0-litre V6.
With 233kW, the GS can sprint from 0-100km/h
in 5.7 seconds and is one of the most powerful
engines in its class - in fact, new GS instils
confidence with in-gear acceleration of 50 to
80km/h taking just 3.0 seconds.
The new powerplant features improved
engine sound characteristics which complement
the bolder, more energetic personality of the
new GS.
The six-speed sequential shift automatic
transmission has paddle shifters and sport
driving functions as standard.
A new direction for “L finesse” design
New GS expresses the next generation of
Lexus’ design philosophy, with its precisely
sculpted exterior signalling the design direction
for future vehicles.
The rear bumper underbody area was designed
for reduced wind resistance to help keep the
car firmly planted on the ground, while air inlets
located on the outer edges of the lower grille
serve as cooling ducts.
The signature spindle grille with its trapezoidal
contours evolved from current Lexus styling and
fully integrates into the aggressive front bumper,
allowing for efficient airflow.
In profile, the GS projects the image of a
spacious sport sedan with a road-hugging wider
stance.
Overall, the new GS sheet metal represents
a significant extension of the Lexus L finesse
philosophy that is the core of all Lexus design.
Spacious interior with premium upgrades
All-new GS provides more overall space for all
occupants.
The entire cabin was created around the driver
and the driving experience.
A horizontal-themed instrument panel
emphasises the spaciousness through its wide
layout. A redesigned seat frame and changes
to the steering column architecture enable an
improved driver seating position for increased
comfort, better forward visibility and overall
command of the road.
Equal attention has been paid to maximising
space for rear passengers, adding headroom,
legroom, knee room and improved foot space
compared with the current generation GS. And
boot space has been increased by almost 25
per cent, and access is improved with a wider,
deeper opening.
Painstaking attention to detail was also applied
to the GS cabin, creating a
balance of luxurious
and
technological amenities and emotional design.
A next-generation Remote Touch with one-push
confirmation is standard on all models and
enables smooth, intuitive operations control.
Seamless connectivity
Next-generation Lexus multimedia brings a
host of standard entertainment and connectivity
enhancements.
First in a suite of new technology is an industry-
first 12.3-inch*, split-screen, high-resolution
multi-media display.
GS buyers will get DVD-capable audio and
video compatibility, MP3 sound enhancement,
5.1 Surround Sound, along with enhanced
Bluetooth®^ capability.
For audiophiles, an 835-watt, 17-speaker Mark
Levinson audio system will be available.
The new system produces almost three times
as many watts per channel over the previous
generation.
Integrated safety systems
In addition to enhanced braking systems and
an impact-absorbing body structure, the new
GS offers significant advances in both passive
and active safety systems
as standard equipment.
There are a class-leading 10 airbags in the
new GS, including a knee airbag for both front
driver and passenger. Rear seat occupants
have seat-mounted side airbags, and all four
outboard occupants are equipped with side
curtain airbags.
The suite of safety features include a pre-
collision system, which uses the dynamic radar
cruise control system to provide early warning
of upcoming objects that might result in a
collision.
The system also uses a first-in-class infrared
camera to monitor the driver’s eyes and check
on driver status.
In the event that the driver does not appear to
be looking forward when a collision appears
imminent, the system will initiate the warning at
an earlier threshold.
Other available safety systems include a Heads
Up Display (HUD) and a Blind Spot Monitor that
helps detect vehicles in rear/side blind spots.
Tony Cramb concludes “the new GS 350
represents the beginning of an all-new era in
Lexus vehicle design and driving dynamics and
we are certain that it will resonate with potential
buyers.”

It is the first time the Victorian branch has won
the prestigious award.
TMHA president and CEO Terry Unnai
presented the award to Cameron Paxton,
General Manager Southern Region, during a
gala dinner at Sydney’s Westin Hotel on 15 July.
TMH (VIC) is the Victorian branch for the Toyota
Material Handling forklift product ranges, as well
as Toyota’s range of Huski skid-steer loaders
and towing tractors.
The TMHA President’s Award for Overall
Excellence recognises excellence in all facets
of Toyota Material Handling (TMH) branch
operations in the calendar year 2010.
This includes new and used equipment
sales, rentals, service and parts departments,
training and business management, customer
satisfaction, facilities and operations.
Terry Unnai said TMH (VIC) had set the
benchmark for excellence for the whole TMH
network during 2010, in what was a highly
competitive national contest.
“For the second year in succession we have a
new winner, following South Australia’s win last
year,” he said.
“Once again, the winning branch fully embraced
the Toyota philosophy of Customer First.”
Cameron Paxton said the branch’s first
President’s Award was a vote of recognition of
the hard work of all his 140 staff.
“We are delighted to win the President’s
Award and it really is testament to the abilities,
professionalism and passion of our people,” he
said.
“But those qualities are not restricted to our
branch: they are displayed consistently by the
entire TMHA team and that’s what makes this
award so special.
“There’s no doubt we have the best product in
the marketplace. However, we retain market
leadership through the efforts of our people
and I’m delighted to be associated with such a
dedicated team across all of our operations.”
The Toyota Material Handling Australia annual
gala dinner also featured the presentation of
Sales Champion Awards for sales and service
managers.
Peter Oates, who has 31 years’ service with
the South Australian branch, won the sales
managers’ award, ahead of John Betts from
Victoria and Bob Leck from Queensland.
South Australia’s David Drew won the service
managers’ award, from Mick McGary (Victoria)
and Peter Draper (Queensland).
Mike Johns from Victoria received the 2010 Top
Gun Award for being the TMH consultant who
exhibited outstanding results across all areas of
the sales champion program.
