Raconteur 2012-13 “The most important thing in life is not conquest, but combat. Victory is not to have vanquished, but to have fought well.”

~PIERRE DE COUBERTIN~

T hese encouraging words by the founder of the modern olympics exactly portray the spirit of sports in its true sense. the real victory lies not in conquest, but in playing your game well. and it's the maxim of the school to inculcate the value of 'playing the game well' in the students, who are the stakeholders of the future and will have to play their roles

in life with true spirit and dedication.

As we stand on the threshold of a new academic year, reaping the rich harvest of a year's toil, I turn to the almighty with a bountiful heart, and in the warmth of the winter afternoon, I heartily welcome honourable chief-guest Air Cmde. PM Sinha VSM, 40 Wing, Air Force, distinguished guests and most valued parents.

I feel very honoured to see you here on a very special occasion of our Annual Sports Day and Prize Distribution Ceremony.I profusely thank our honourable Chief Guest for making his day here, in spite of his busy schedule. This year we decide to celebrate the event with difference, rather with a festive approach, that is the celebration of the spirit of sportsmanship with zeal and zest.

I give words of encouragement for our spiritual athletes as the day affirms the efforts that the school and its students have put in through the year in building a vibrant school culture.

The Annual Sports Day of No.1 Air Force School begins with ecstatic excitement and culmination of the days and nights of preparation. This is a moment which can be savoured with the feeling of satisfaction in the basking light of the sun to see the vivacious teams with a vision of achievement, sparkling with bundles of endurance.

It is a matter of great pride for school to announce 100% result of Board XII in the Central Air Command Headquarters. In the new session, it is a subject of elation for the students as they have received new and striking furniture with the

courtesy of management. The school is thankful for that.

AcademicsThe school has recorded its best-ever results this time, which will largely strategize the shaping of the contours of success stories of No.1 Air Force School. I consider myself blessed to have inherited this rich legacy of educational excellence- the massive expanse of campus, in co-existence of green surroundings inspires one to achieve standards par excellence in whatever tasks one undertakesYou will be pleased to note that with these results, the students will be able to accept the intellectual challenges and achieve academic excellence.

Page 11: Flight

InfrastructureThe school's infrastructure has constantly expanded to cater to the requirements of growth. For this, the school has successfully implemented the concept of the Digital-age education by deploying Educomp SmartClass Systems in the School. This has been one of the school's constant endeavors for making studies more fascinating and enjoyable.

Eco-ClubsEco-Clubs in a school are a means by which students can be empowered to participate and take up meaningful environmental activities and projects. It is a forum through which students can reach out to influence the communities to promote sound environmental behavior. The Eco-Clubs empowers students to explore environmental concepts and actions beyond the confines of syllabi or curriculum. The dictum of eco-clubs of the No.1 Air Force School, Gwalior is to provide a wonderful opportunity to help generate awareness, build attitude and enable students to take up activities in the real world, in a way that the constraints of the classroom and curriculum won't allow. We have five eco-clubs, which are running very efficiently by our capable staff members.

Investiture Ceremony for the Students' CouncilThe investiture ceremony is a very special occasion where the school entrusts the upcoming leaders, relinquishing responsibilities with a pledge to preserve the pride of the school. Honourable Principal announced the names of the new Students' Council for the academic session 2012-13 and read out the solemn oath. Each member had the proud privilege of the School's Sash and Badge, and not one missed the myriad and mighty meaning that both carried. It was simultaneously a moment of pride and humbleness, of authority and accountability, and above all, service. The objective is to imbibe the quality of leadership in the students and help them in testing their strengths as leaders to be tapped for future. The Student's Council is the body of elected members that inculcates a sense of leadership among the students. It plays an important role in being a negotiator between the students and the management. It comprises of office bearers, class representatives and volunteers. Abhishek Chaddha is the School Head Boy and Shreya Dubey is the School Head Girl grouped with literary secretary, cultural secretary, sports-captain etc. Same designations are conferred to the students of class XI, prefixed with 'vice'.

HousesIt is noteworthy that each house manifests its own triumph, yet there are moments when the house boundaries dissolve and everyone acknowledges the achievers of the year gone by. This year many inter-house activities like Poster making, Declamation, Recitation and Sports Activities etc. were conducted in which our wonderfully talented students displayed their extra-ordinary skills and won numerous prizes.

Page 12: Flight

ActivitiesTeaching a child the virtues of life can be made possible only when he is made to think out of the hat, and not as the old cliché. To teach it, there has to be a paradigm shift in the teaching-learning procedure. To assist our students in their pursuit of knowledge, efforts are always made to provide ample opportunities for growth and self-realization, and this infuses dynamism in education. In No.1 Air Force School, we develop these skills through various curricular and co-curricular activities in a holistic manner.Participating in various activities keeps the students focused on School, as being the part of a team. It instills a sense of dedication to teammates, teachers and friends, and this has been the constant endeavour of the school. I feel proud to read out the achievements of our school in various activities.

Report of NCC Camp A Chinese old saying: “For your country if you plan for a year, sow paddy; if you plan for a decade, plant tree; & if you plan for future, nurture youth”. This is

where the National Cadet Corps proves its significance. NCC inculcates in the youth a sense of nationalism and secular outlook that contributes towards

building of nation. This was the IV consecutive year of NCC in No.1 Air Force School.rd th

No.1 Air Force School NCC Air Wing cadets participated in Annual Camp at Indore on 3 September 2012 to 12 September 2012. The camp was a success;

We observed NCC day on 24 of November where Students of NCC planted saplings in our Vayu-Van.

Social Responsibility'Those who are happiest are those who do the most for others' - Booker T. Washington

Taking education beyond the confines of books and boards, No.1 Air Force School initiates projects tailor made to make students aware of their social

responsibilities as they shape our children's view of the world. A socially responsible learning community integrates the academic, social, emotional and

ethical dimensions of teaching and learning, fostering the ongoing development of human qualities.

Trips and ExcursionsGone are the days, when the education used to be only study-centric. In current times, the belief of education is the overall development of the child. This is for

this reason, apart from studies, a host of other activities, such as excursions and educational tours are given importance by No.1 Air Force School, Gwalior.

Page 19: Flight

ARJAN CUP CHRONICLESThe history of 'Arjan Cup' – football tournament was inscribed three years ago, i.e. in 2010, to commemorate the living legend 'Marshal of the Indian Air Force

A.M. Arjan Singh, DFC'.

He was Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), from 1 August 1964 to 15 July 1969, and was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 1965. He also became the first Air Chief Marshal

of the Indian Air Force when, in recognition of the Air Force's contribution in the 1965 war, the rank of the Chief of Air Staff was upgraded to that of Air Chief

Marshal. After he retired in 1969 at the age of 50, he was appointed the Indian Ambassador to Switzerland in 1971. He concurrently served as the Ambassador to

the Vatican. He was appointed High Commissioner to Kenya in 1974. He was member of the Minorities Commission, Government of India from 1975-1981. He was

Lt. Governor of Delhi from Dec 1989 - Dec 1990 and was made Marshal of the Air Force in January, 2002.Marshal of the Indian Air Force Arjan Singh, DFCThe

inaugural edition of Arjan Cup took place in 2010 and for the last two years, it has intensified the spirit of Championship helping many young students to discover

a footballer in them. It began this way…

THE JOURNEY BEGINS…Principal, No.1 Air Force School, Ms Okolpita Bhattacharjee met Marshal of the Indian Air Force Arjan Singh DFC,

during the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations of 1 Squadron, IAF. His charismatic, enigmatic and dynamic personality inspired her to the highest degree and then she

decided to hold an inter-school sporting-extravaganza as a tribute to his active and energetic persona and to enhance the sport spirit of the students of our

school, which is one of the Principal's KRAs as per the directive of Air HQ, New Delhi. The proposal was nodded positive by SMC and hence began the journey of

'ARJAN CUP-the Inter-School Football Tournament' with an idea to foster the flair for football among young players.

Football is a sport that shows the real teamwork, camaraderie and integrity of the players and Arjan Cup is a step put forward by No.1 Air Force School to hone

these traits among the sport stars of tomorrow!

ARJAN CUP 2010…THE FIRST EVER EXTRAVAGANZA!The first edition of Arjan Cup in 2010 invited 8 teams from leading schools of Gwalior including LAHS, GGHS, KVs etc. LAHS, KV2, Ramshree and our very

own School team made it to the semi-finals. The first-ever grand finale was played between No.1 AFS and LAHS, in which LAHS came out with glory, winning

the championship.

ARJAN CUP 2011…ANOTHER STEP FORWARD!The second Arjan Cup took place in 2011 and 9 glorious teams participated in it to epitomize their flair in football. This time, the semi-finals were played

between AFS-A & GGHS, and AFS-B & LAHS. AFS-A and LAHS made it to the finals and LAHS bagged the title for the second time.

ARJAN CUP 2012…FOR THE THIRD TIME!The third version of the Arjan Cup took place this year in the presence of Air Cmde P M Sinha VSM, and 7 meticulous teams including two teams from our

school, teams from KV1, KV2, LAHS, GGHS and Bhartiyam School participated in it to exemplify their finesse in football. This time, our school, LAHS and KV1

made it to the semifinals and LAHS bagged the title for the third time, defeating KV.1 in the Finals.

The splendid players were awarded with titles of honour. The Golden Boot was given to Anunay from LAHS, the Golden Ball was given to Basant from KV1

and Mohammad Arafat of our school received the Rising Player award.

The Trail Will Blaze

Page 21: Flight

The closing of Arjan Cup was declared by Air Cmde P M Sinha, VSM, Chairman, No.1 Air Force School. On that fastidious day, he quoted aptly etched citations

of Marshal of the Indian Air Force Arjan Singh, DFC. They are –

“I have followed four simple rules

Firstly, you should be thorough in your profession.

Secondly, you should complete the job at hand to the satisfaction of everyone.

Thirdly, you must have implicit faith in your subordinates, and

Fourthly, your efforts should be honest and sincere.

If you follow these four principles you can never go wrong.”

The Principal, No.1 Air Force School, plans to showcase these citations in the school's premises with a view to imbibe a fervor and dedication not only for

sports but also for trust and accountability for dealing with success and integrity in the arena of life.

The Journey of Arjan Cup is an epitome of competency and sportsmanship. It inculcates the values of a true sportsman into the footballers of tomorrow and

appreciates the tireless efforts of the team in bringing forth the spirit of games truthfully. The young sportsman of No.1 Air Force School will blaze the trail to

create history and leave a strong legacy for the upcoming footballers.

The Air Club comprises of Ms Harsha Gaur (Air Club In-charge), Mrs Rekha Kumar (Club Coordinator) and 80 commandoes from classes III-X.

In the beginning, due to the strong motivation given by the teachers and inspired by the senior commandoes, tiny tots have actively become members and have tried to perform their respective duties and responsibilities given to them.

Several activities for the conservation of our lovely planet were conducted by our club.

Tree plantation took place during Sanskrit Week in which the air club members actively participated.

Commandoes presented speeches, thoughts and poems in the school assembly to spread the message of conservation of nature.

In the Poster Making Competition, our students participated with great zeal and enthusiasm.

During the rainy season, mint plants were planted in the club arena in the school garden. The club has taken excellent measures to maintain the cleanliness and discipline of the school campus and will continue to do so.

Pride in Performance

Pride in performance is an important quality that makes a person successful. But in today's world, pride in performance has fallen by the wayside because it requires effort and hard work. However, nothing happens unless it is made to happen. When one is discouraged, it is easy to look for shortcuts. Nevertheless, these should be avoided no matter how great the temptation is. Pride comes from within-it is what Three people gives the winning edge .were laying bricks. A passer-by asks them what they were doing. The first one replied, “Can't you see I'm making a living?” The second one said, “Can't you see I'm laying bricks?” the third one answered, “I'm building a beautiful monument.” Here were three people doing the same thing, who had totally different prospective on what they were doing. They had three very different attitudes about their work. And would their attitude affect their performance? The answer is clearly 'YES'.Pride of performance does not represent ego. It represents pleasure with humility. The quality of work and the quality of the worker are inseparable. Half-hearted effort does not produce half results; it produces no results.Excellence comes when the performer takes pride in doing his best. Every job is a self-portrait of the person who does it, regardless of what the job is.“If a man is called to be street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.”-Martin Luther King Jr.Do it right the first time, every time. The best insurance for tomorrow is a job well done today. Most of the people forget how fast they did a job, but they remember how well it was done. The feeling of a job well done is a reward in itself. It is better to do small things well than do many things poorly.

I’ve seen love being sold for money;

Cheating

A Peccadillo!

§ We all know that

it’s a transgression

to cheat and betray

others. It is against

the spirit of

sportsmanship. This

story portrays this

message.

Once upon a time, there was an owl, who lived on a huge Peepal tree. One day, a naughty boy hit him with a catapult and the mud pellet he used got stuck in the owl’s stomach. It was a very excruciating time for him. He asked his friend, the crow, about it. The crow advised him to visit the cuckoo. In those days, the cuckoo used to be a clever physician amongst the birds. So, the crow arranged for an appointment and both of them went to meet Dr Cuckoo on a fine sunny

day when the owl’s tummy wasn’t fine at all! The Cuckoo said, “I will

examine you, but you’ll have to promise me that you will pay me your fee. Don’t break your promise. Is that fine with you?”

The owl said, “All right. Once you cure me, I will come to terms with you.”

Dr Cuckoo examined him and told him to go and sit in a pool of searing and steaming water. The owl reluctantly did as he was told (though he was quite scared of getting into the hot water for he thought he would be boiled like a Christmas t urkey).

The mud pellet was dissolved and he was relieved instantly. He was happy and he started dancing with elation. He held hands of the crow and they performed a joyous foxtrot together.

Unfortunately, the joy dissolved all traces of his promise as he forgot to pay Dr Cuckoo’s bill.

A few days later when he met Dr Cuckoo in the souk, the Owl fumbled when he was asked about the fees, but he gathered up courage and spoke up, “It was the water that cured me and not you Dr Cuckoo. Is that very clear to you? So you don’t deserve any fee!”, and he ran away.

Dr Cuckoo was enraged and bellowed at the crow, “You brought that lout here; now you’ll have to pay for it. From now, you’ll have to take care of my eggs.”

Since then, the crow has been taking care of Dr Cuckoo’s eggs, and the owl is still hiding from the Cuckoo and the Crow.

Being Positive

§

Positivity is an integral

facet of sportsmanship.

Being positive is really

necessary to achieve

our goals in life.

Being positive has been the motto of most people. But not everyone is aware that being

positive actually means having a positive view about every person and not just oneself.

Today’s generation lacks this view.

Today, most people, when blamed, try to push the blame forward and would give the

general answer, “My friend also does the same thing; why can’t I???!!!”

If someone does

something wrong, does it mean that we are also bound to commit the same mistake? It

depends on us. Rather, we can slip into his shoes and make him realize his mistake. We

must try and implement positivity in ourselves. We should always thro w light on the

positive side of a person and not investigate their negative side.

The path of a person who brims with positivity will always be enlightened. It’s a

phenomenon that when an object reflects light that falls on it and when the reflected rays

fall on our eyes, we are able to see it. But what if we don’t wish to look at the particular

object? No one can force us to do so… Similarly, no one can force us to look at the negative

side of something. So, try and grab the rays of light that would brighten your future and not

those which would make your future a dull phase.

The word sportsmanship means the right spirit in which a man should take part in any

sport, or play any game.

It includes fair play and no favour, enthusiasm for the game, generosity to opponents,

pluck, and the ability to take defeat well.

It goes without saying that a real sportsman will never dream of cheating in a game,

or taking any unfair advantage of his opponent. She/he will always “play fair”, and

honorably keep the rules of the game. And he will not expect any concessions from

his opponent. He takes the game seriously, has patience while playing, does not care

whether he wins or loses and plays with all his energy to beat his opponent. An un -

sportsman like player will often get into a temper when he is being defeated. But the

true sportsman takes it in good humor even when he is losing.

“One man practicing good sportsmanship is far better than fifty others preaching it.”

Sportsmanship is an aspiration or ethos that a sport or activity will be enjoyed for its own

sake, with proper consideration for fairness, ethics, respect, and a sense of fellowship

with other participants. A good sport means being a “good winner” as well as being a

“good loser”.

In general, sportsmanship refers to virtues such as fairness, self control, courage, and

persistence and has been associated with interpersonal treatment to others and being

treated fairly, maintaining self-control if dealing with others. It also means respect for both

authority and opponents. Sportsmanship is also looked at as being the way one reacts to a

sport. A competitor who exhibits poor sportsmanship after losing

a game or contest is

often called a “sore loser”.

Sore loser behaviour includes blaming others for the loss, not accepting responsibility for

personal actions that contributed to the defeat, reacting, to the loss in an immature or

improper fashion, making excuses for the defeat, and citing unfavourable conditions or

other petty issues as reasons for the defeat. A bad winner acts in a shallow fashion after

his/her win, rubbing the win in the face of the opponent, lowering the opponent’s self-

esteem by constantly reminding the opponent of “poor” performance in comparison.

Sportsmanship is an ethos that each one of us needs to carry and practice. We must play

the game in the true sportsmanship and learn to take the loss in the same stride as the win.

A winner must be given due with all humility.

Page 39: Flight

Life is a struggle and not a bed of roses. Man is not perfect and he cannot ensure success

in everything that he undertakes. He often stumbles in life for the simple reason that he

has to face many hurdles.

Human life is the story of numerous failures and a few achievements. Success naturally

gives us joy and pride.

Failures generally disappoint and discourage us. However, the

right approach to failure is not to be disheartened by them. Misfortune tries a man in the

same way as gold is tried in fire. Failure should be regarded as a stepping stone to

success.

Each time we fail, we become aware of our weaknesses and defects. We also discover

our hidden powers. The experience we gain each time makes our path to success

smoother and easier. We can achieve success in life by removing the pitfalls which

caused our failure.

Thus failure is the best instructor, a guide and a teacher. It makes us

bold, active and vigilant. Those who fail will succeed one day.

Teamwork and

Comradeship

§

Teamwork is one of

the traits of good

Sportsmanship. The

ideal sportsman is

the one who is able

to keep up with the

team and work in

collaboration

towards conquest.

“The strength of the team is not each individual member …

The strength of each member is the team!”

For a sports team to exist, you need a group of talented people who work together to achieve a

common goal. The word team

itself describes four great traits of a sportsperson…

T –

Trust

E –

Enthusiasm

A –

Ambition

M –

Motivation

Starting from the ‘T’, Trust is most important in a team. If a team lacks trust, it becomes weak. In an

effective team, there needs to be trust between team members and coaches; and all the members

need to trust themselves and their

abilities.

Most of the people participate in games for enjoyment and fun. If one likes a sport and finds it

enjoyable, enthusiasm

will automatically develop.

Ambition

gives the team direction. Each team member and the team as a whole needs to have an

ambition to achieve goal.

Motivation allows the team to achieve a common goal because only when you are motivated for

something, you work with full determination and perseverance.

The acrostic of the word TEAM is full of great meaning. If each and every member of the sporting

fraternity realizes it, then perhaps the sphere of sport would transform into a bountiful realm of joy,

peace and friendliness.

It is rightly said that ‘ A single arrow is easily broken, but not ten in a bundle. ’ So, be a part of the

bundle and follow the ideals of teamwork.

Remember us Forever, Alma Mater!

My last year in the school has been very fulfilling and will always remain one of the most treasured memories of my school-life. I joined the school in 2008 just before the school was closing for summer vacations. I was the laughing stock of the entire class for the same reason. I will always remember Principal ma'am, Sood ma'am, Amita ma'am, Bhavana Malhotra ma'am and everyone who has taught me at some point or the other. I will perhaps always wonder how a person can be so enriched with knowledge as Sood ma'am. I've always enjoyed coming to school. I thank Shraddha ma'am and Tripathi sir for guiding me

th ththrough class 11 and 12 when I needed their support the most.

Words fall short for Principal ma'am for everything she has done for us. I cannot repay the love and affection I have received but I'll surely try my very best to make my school proud of me.

Friends have been wonderful and I thank them for making me what I am today.

At last I'd like to tell my juniors Enjoy School Life- Study when you have to, and always remember-Good things happen to those who do good.

Packing and moving has always been a part of my frenzied life. I left No.1 Air Force School in 2004 after completing class I, II and III, and was extremely happy to come back after 6

thyears, to complete my most crucial challenge-Class 10 . I took no time to blend in with the eclectic atmosphere of the school because of the ever open arms of Principal Ma'am, awesome teachers and CRAZY friends. Standing at the helm of life of entrance examinations, independent living, and a tender step towards adulthood, a sinking feeling fills me with memories difficult to elaborate in this limited space. However, I do realize the values and virtues that the school imbibes in its students are priceless.

I hope everyone remembers me as a friendly, easy-going, sincere and a CRAZY girl. Memories in school, for me are like jewels and I thank everyone for making my journey so beautiful and enjoyable. I hence conclude by winking “STUDY HARD ” and utilize your time wisely. Always do things that you'll never regret in life. Life would become simple automatically.

Lastly, enjoy every moment to the core. Ups and downs are a part of life and it is up to us to think positive and life like a bird because sky is the limit.

-Deepshikha Karth12 A

School life is a journey, all about learning and gearing up to face the challenges the world will offer us once we are out of school. School life is precious because we get to taste it only once. It shapes our character, moulds our mental attitude and fashions the basic ethics of life. For many of us, the days spent in school are the happiest and the best days of our life. The very memory of school days fills our mind with nostalgic recollections of happy days of yesteryears.

Page 45: Flight

Even though I have been in this school for only two years, my association with this prestigious institution has been incredible, coupled with fond memories of various kinds. On my first day in school, I never thought that I would mingle so well with my batch mates in no time. The enormous support and unconditional affection that I received from the teachers is consummate; they have helped me in every sphere.

Every bit of the fond memories of bygone days will be imprinted in my mind and I will cherish them forever.

Wake Up, before it's too late!

On the 16th of December, 2012, something happened, of which each of us should be ashamed of. It puts a big question-mark on our culture, where we worship women as goddesses; on our constitution that guarantees equality and freedom; and on our souls and conscience that probably have vanished!

A twenty-three year old girl and her friend were mistreated and beaten inhumanly by six men, one of them being 'juvenile'. They beat them, hit them with a rod, misbehaved with the girl, threw them out of the bus without any clothes, and tried to kill them. They fought against this for an hour or so. They lay in the bushes for over half an hour after which the PCR vans arrived. Meanwhile, people gathered around to watch their usual tamashaa but no one came forward to extend a helping hand or didn't even bother to spare some clothes for the two traumatized people. Rather, they were busy with their own presumptions and speculations. Even the police did not mind to help them and were busy in arguing over which van they are supposed to board. The boy, without caring about his own injuries, took the pain of putting the girl in the van. The police drove them to hospital and simply left, leaving them to bear the cold and pain, out in the open.

The boy managed to inform his family members that he and his friend had met with an accident and was somehow able to get the treatment started. The boy later reported this brutal incident to the police and registered an FIR. He remained in the police-station for the next four days, without undergoing any proper treatment, with the sole aim of ensuring justice for his traumatized friend.

Page 48: Flight

The girl belonged to a middle-class family. She opened her eyes after three days of treatment at Safdarjung Hospital. The first question she asked was 'Who will pay for my treatment? How much will it cost?' She asked about the six indicted criminals. Her friend assured her justice and told her that the six were behind bars. She appealed that the dreadful immoral criminals should not be just hanged so easily, rather they should be tortured brutally and burned alive for their awful crime.

After thirteen days of hard fight, the girl closed her eyes forever… but opened those of the blind society.

People came out to the streets to implore for justice for the brave girl (who has been named Nirbhaya and Damini by the media) but got shots of tear-bombs and water-cannons instead of evenhanded justice.

Her death left a million questions behind her.

Where was the ambulance?

Why was the bus running with black films?

Why didn't the doctors attend them immediately?

But the most important questions were:

How could someone do this?

How many more decades do we want to change our mentality towards girls?

A girl is not 'something' as perceived by the society; she is 'someone', with her own dreams, aspirations, and of course, self-respect. Wearing jeans, having a cell-phone, having late night outings do not depict a girl's proclivity to be misbehaved with.

Page 49: Flight

It's always the girls who are asked to follow norms and behave in a customary manner, but the boys are never taught to respect girls. Girls are advised not to move out late in the night. How late is that “late” for a girl? Girls are misbehaved with even at crowded bus stops in broad daylight.

Scientifically proven fact is that girls are emotionally and mentally stronger than boys and only 15% physically weaker than them. If a girl keeps quiet or ignores, it doesn't mean that she's weak or vulnerable. If women's molestations continue at this rate, then it won't be an exaggeration to say that the situation will turn topsy-turvy. Even girls will hit a boy with a rod or get his intestines out. Six men did this to a girl; ten girls can do that to a man. But as goes the saying “Eye to an eye will make the world blind.” To be on the safer side, it is an urgent necessity to stop such cases.

The problem is with the system, society or politicians. This, perhaps, is the statement to make. But as a matter of fact, it is much deeper than this.

We need to respect each other. We need to understand that any person standing next to us also has something called self-respect and dignity. No matter how ugly or dumb a person is, they are still unique. Don't ever hurt that self-esteem.

Let's promise ourselves that we will bring a change, by not get involved in any activity that is against someone's self respect – be it a girl or a boy.

If we can't make someone happy, we have no right to make him/her sad. Looking silently, ignoring or moving out of such a place is not the solution. It's a matter of humanity to act, protest – whether the victim your sister or just a passerby. This is the major difference that differentiates a human from a beast. “If something wrong goes on ahead of me and I step ahead to stop it, the worst that can happen to me is getting killed, and it's getting killed for a true cause.” That should actually the spirit. 'Wrong' is not just someone getting pushed to death, it's anything from bullying your friend to passing a rude comment to someone. After all, journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Page 50: Flight

For girls, they should be bold and strong enough to tackle such situation. Don't give up and show the world that you're not weak and submissive. Believe in yourself and be independent.

Let's hope that we all learn from the agitation throughout the country. The society is no other than us, and we change our mindset, the society will see a radical revolution for sure.

Success Albeit Disabilities…Helen KellerWe can see everything around us… can't we? But there are people much less fortunate than us who can't see the beauty of this planet. They are blind. We can hear the sounds… can't we? There are people who can't even hear. They are deaf.We can speak whenever we want…don't we? But some people can't even do that. They are dumb. There was an American lady who was blind, deaf and dumb; yet she achieved remarkable accomplishments. Do you know who she was…She was Miss Helen Keller. She was born a normal child, without any disabilities. She was able to see, hear and talk but when she became one year old, she fell ill and this sickness made Helen blind, deaf and dumb. Her parents took her to many good doctors. The doctors tried their best to heal her but couldn't succeed in doing so. She remained blind, deaf and dumb. Her parents were worried. Her mother tried to teach her the language of the deaf and dumb, but could not do so. She could not learn much. When Helen was seven, a visitor came to their home. She was Ms Anne Sullivan. She used to teach deaf and dumb children. She was a wonderful teacher. She understood Helen's difficulty and sat down beside her. She placed a doll in her hand and slowly spelt the word D-O-L-L on her palm.Little Helen soon became interested in this finger-play. In a few days, she could spell PEN, HAT, CUP, WATER and so on. Slowly, she began to speak alphabets. Then Helen was sent to school. Despite being disabled, she began to study with patience and hard work, and this landed her into College. She was very popular among students and teachers. After her studies, she instituted a school for special children. She travelled far and wide to help the disabled children. She wrote many books which inspired people like her not to despair because of disability and her works continue to motivate generations.

Shades of black and blue dominate,The world has gone to sleep. The night has opened its gate,There's darkness in the deep.

It's gloomy all around,There's not a soul in sight; Not even a flicker of sound,

Just a wolf howling with its might.

The flowers wave about,Full of dew are the lawns. The birds start coming out,With the first signs of dawn.

There's a change in the skyFrom blue to yellow,

The darkness is waved goodbye,The breeze is pleasant.

The Sun appears amidst the clouds,The first rays of light gleam.

The birds chirp aloud,It feels like just a dream!

After gloom, there's cheer.We just need to cope;

Time mends every tear,We must never lose hope!

I often like to have a lot of people around me. I am easily distracted. I find it easy to approach other people and establish new contacts. I often make impulsive decisions. I prefer to be in the centre of things; I have lots of friends and love action and company. I like to organise my leisure time actively and together with others. I never leave others in any doubt about what I think and what my point of view is. My feelings are like me - lively and spontaneous. A club holiday or travelling with a group of good friends is just the right thing for me. I prefer to discuss problems with others.

I am not easily worked up. My idea of a dream holiday is more a solo trip; perhaps to a lonely island or a trekking trip in the mountains. If something weighs on my mind, I would sooner try to sort it out for myself.

An Expression of An Absconding Student...

Life Still has Many Turns to Take...With each sun setting down and each day turning dark,With each road turning bleak and each flame blowing up its spark. With each force driving meUp into the eternal sea,The quest began for searchingThe answers deep burrowed in me.For the reasons of grief and the sources of painThe maladies of lifeAll could end up in one refrain.Because more I am blessed with the mirth and joy,As I could remember the thousand times I smiled under this sky.And yes I haven't lost any laughter nor my beloved,Its just a parting because we are meant to meet again. And still I have the hands to hold,To share cozy warmth in this cold,For my life still has many turns to take,And a sun is still waiting for me to be awake.
