MY QUESTION

How can a digital experience be used to help non-profits find and work with creatives to make their ideas a reality?

AUDIENCE

Designers -young designers in their 20s wanting to help and make a difference -mid career designers who are looking to change their career direction !

Non-Profits -needing visual representation -needing design thinking

Resource- Seft of Manheim Park - Anesly -interweb

A FEW PROBLEMS

1. When looking for nonprofit organizations to join and be a part of, the websites are very cold and awkward.

It almost turns you away and doesn't provide a way to actually connect with the organization except by just providing a phone number or maybe a web link. You can't communicate to another person through the actual site.

I found that in a few sites you had to pay to be a member in order to view any groups and opportunity. which is unfair IMO

I like that you can rate and review the organizations on this site and getting to know peoples experiences with them, makes the people who are thinking about joining more comfortable deciding. -from a bunch of reviews

A lot of websites are listings of non profits rather than providing a platform where you can interact with them.

2. Designers are not being paid the money that they deserve when doing nonprofit work.

Most of the time designers do the work for "nonprofit" or at negligible fees when doing social impact work And a lot of the time designers are cut because of budget reasons, but how can the site that i am proposing make non-profits realize the importance of having a designer on a team so that they can be properly rewarded for their work?

Talking with ansley was really helpfulshe confirmed a lot of my assumptions and research. but also bright up there there is a lot of miscommunication due to being under educated about the other side. education is important -starting your own company/ organization (as a designer for good) takes up a lot of time and money, and you have to be very dedicated to it, thats why DIC trys to find designers other ways to help out so they don’t put themselves in a bad finical spot. -so maybe my site acts as an “office space” for designers who cant commit to starting up their own shop.

3. Nonprofits need to learn what skills designers can actually provide.

Designers know all about thought, process, tools, methodologies, skills, histories, and systems and can provide much more than just a poster and a logo. These skills can help find the root of a problem which when is addressed, can help solves more smaller problems along the way. when organizations are informed about what designers can provide, it can open up more job opportunity and connects for designers.

here is an example where they need visuals

I read a lot about Emily Pilloton and her studio Project H And one thing that kept coming up is that sometimes even with just little changes in a community, like a building a playground, can have a big impact and a lot of information that is out there is proof that human centered design works and encourages people to try and be a part of experience. talk about her ted talk and how she was hired for her design thinking to help a community.

A FEW CHALLENGES

+ How to communicate to two different types of audiences at once

!

+ How to create an environment that will constantly adapt to the communities needs

learn

SOLUTION

EXPLORATIONS

+ How can I provide education that is easily accessible and affordable?

how can this fit in to my site?

+ How to provide a collection of resources to help encourage people to participate and aid them along the way?
