HORIZONTAL SPLIT CASE
PUMP
* Single stage pump
* Multi stage pump
Advantages
•High flow rate
•Can used with electrical and diesel
motors
Disadvantages
•Hard maintenance
•High cost
•Takes a Big size

VERTICAL PUMP
Vertical in-line is the most famous
Advantages
Effective
Good price
Disadvantages•Flow rate more than 1500 GPM
•Works on an electrical motor only
• Need a filter

END SUCTION PUMP
Types
•
Flexible coupling pump•Long coupling pump
Advantages
•Works with electrical and diesel motors
•Easy installation
Disadvantages
Flow rare more than 150 GPM

SYSTEM PUMP
We install on the main line 3 pumps
1-Electrical pump
Usually it is horizontal split case or end suction2-Electrical pump
Works when the power went off
or when the main load more than electrical pump load
3- jockey pump
it works to make up the friction losses
The flow 10 % from the total flow

PUMP SELECTION
Requirements
1-it give the required flow rate and pressure .
2- it is preferred to be at the middle of the curve .
3-it give 150% of the flow rate at pressure higher than 65% of the real
pressure.
4-the shut down pressure not more than 140% of the real pressure .
5-passed the UL&FM tests .6-NPSH not more than 20 Psi.
7- flow rate range from 25 to 5000 GPM.

We can use Pump Affinity Laws to change the speed
*We use pumps with 2900 rpm

INSTALLATION AND CONNECTING
PUMPS* INSTALL THE PUMPS CLOSE TO THE RISER TO
AVOID CAVITATIONS
*BEFORE THE PUMP WE INSTALL
1-CHECK VALVE
2-GATE VALVE
3-FLXIBLE CONNECTION
4-STRAINER
5-FLOW METER
*WE PUT THE PUMP ON INSULATOR FROM RUBBER
* TUBES LESS THAN 2’’ THREADED
MORE THAN THAN IS WELDED

REQUIRED PUMP
PRESSUREPt= Pi + Pf + Ps
Pt: total pressure
Pi: system operating pressure
Pf: pressure friction losses
Ps: pressure losses due to elevation
According to NPFA
Not operating pressure doesn’t excess 120% therequired pressure and 140% for the end suctionpump
