the illustrationistKen Wilson-Max was born and educated in Zimbabwe where he took a graphic design apprenticeship under Chaz Maviyane-Davies. He travelled to The United Kingdom to study graphic design in 1986.

In 1987 he started working at Orchard Books in London as a book designer under the knowledgeable eye of Jennifer Browne and learned how to design books for children while studying part-time.

In 1990 he went to work for the BBC then David Bennett Books (now Boxer Books), after which he decided to try to tell his own stories starting with a book called Big Yellow Taxi which was published in 1995 It was quickly followed by ‘Little Red Plane’, ‘Big Blue Engine’ and eventually seven vehicle books in the series. Ken has worked on over fifty books since then for major publishers around the world and in many languages.

Ken spends his year developing stories, visiting schools & libraries while running a small graphic design studio which specialises in designing for different cultures.

He uses his phone for many things besides painting...
