SOLID STATE FERMENTATION OFPADDY STRAW FOR PRODUCTION OF BIOETHANOL USING TRICHODERMA
REESEISANDHYA VARMA S. AND A.MURALIDHARAN
DEPARTMENT OF GENETIC ENGINEERING, SRM UNIVERSITY
`
INTRODUCTION• Recently the demand of ethanol has increased considerably
because of its use as gasoline in addition to other application in industries which need production of alcohol on large scale ( Wati L et al.,2007)
• Abundant agricultural residue such as corn stover, wheat straw, rice straw, bagasse, etc. are used in cellulase production (Romero et al., 1999; Xia and Cen,1999; Kang et al., 2004; Wen et al., 2005; Sukumaran et al.,2009).
• Bioethanol is a clean, renewable, low green house gas emitting fuel (Wheals AE et al., 1999)
• Ethanol has a octane number of 99 which prevents pre ignition and thereby proves to be a better fuel than petrol (Wheals AE et al.,1999)
OBJECTIVES
• Cellulolysis of paddy straw using Trichoderma reesei (MTCC*164)
• Extraction of crude extract• Distillation of crude to extract ethanol• Confirmation and Quantitative analysis of
ethanol using Gas Chromatography
MATERIALS AND METHODSMaterials:• Trichoderma reesei (MTCC*164) procured from
IMTECH, Punjab, India.• Paddy straw collected from Potheri• Solid State Fermentation set up.• Gas chromatogram (Chemito GC 1000)• Simple Distillation UnitMethods:• Solid state fermentation• Simple Distillation• Gas Chromatography
