The film poster for The Eye seemingly opts for simplistic ‘shock factor’ images, as opposed to relying on a great deal of graphology like many others. The brown shadow cast around the eye could arguably be a suggestion of illness or death, as generally dark eyes are associated with corpses. This possibility is confirmed further by the white which surrounds it, because a pale face proposes more of the same. It could also be a nod to the afterlife, as near death experiences and rising into heaven is frequently described as ‘walking into the light’. From this, and from the panicked look of the eye, it is implied that she is the innocent victim in the film.

Other spiritual connotations are derived from the meaning of an eye in itself. They are often referred to as ‘the windows of the soul’, and here a hand is seen to be coming out from it, thus creating an enigma for the audience, in the hope of enticing them to watch. Jessica Alba is shown above the title of the film, which reflects her importance and is a unique selling point for the film, to existing fans. Appropriate credentials are also listed at the bottom of the page, which is a fundamental convention of film posters.

The poster for ‘Humboldt County’ is suggested to be a comedy as far as I am concerned, due to the nature of the graphics utilised. There is no serious element, as the character one would assume it is based around is standing on what is likely to be a cannabis roll-up. The smoke fading in with the clouds is a joke in itself, as the use of cannabis is referred to as ‘getting high’. Another joke, ‘It was a little further out than he thought’ is printed as the skyline, quite literally. ‘Far out’ was a term used mainly by hippies in the peace movement during the ‘60s, so this is referenced to make a link between these people, well known for cannabis use, and the scene behind of woodland and see, implying Humboldt County is far out in another sense. The colours used are all light and cheerful, blues and greens having calming connotations, which could be another suggestion toward the use of cannabis, as this is a common effect of the drug.

Red Sonja is a heroine from the works of Marvel. The deep red of her hair and lips connote blood and anger, the wild wisps spiking around her to make suggest that she is dangerous. The sky is grey behind her, and the red rose petals appear to be surrounding her, as if to show that she is the source of the carnage beneath her feet, an oncoming storm ready to slay victims in her path. The composed expression on her face develops an air of mystery about her, as she is in a strange environment and seems to find it normal. Though she looks elegant and small, the chainmail attire and blood-stained sword develop a femme-fatale image and it can be seen that she is dangerous. As she is on top of the skulls, it implies she is a dominant character, taking presidency over the dead. This poster was released in 2008 as a teaser, alongside another of the main character licking blood from a knife. Due to this, it does not require the amount of information as was featured in the previous two. It is now expected to be released in 2013.
