The figures for minor roads have been revised greatly from those published previously following DfT's introduction of a new and improved method of estimating the volume of traffic on minor roads - see section 4.3 of the text. 2. Major roads are classified on the basis of their trunk road status at a recent date, so there is no break in the figures between 1995 and 1996. 3. These figures are based on DfT's new classification of "urban" and "rural" roads, which differs from the "built up" / "non-built up" classification used previously.
