Happy 2020! We hope your family enjoyed a

peaceful and fun holiday season. As the new

year begins, we are gearing up for lots of learn-

ing ahead. We will also begin our plans for the

100th day of school. We have many fun activi-

ties – check your child’s folder! Remember to write names on all new

winter coats. Our Arizona weather has us losing jackets during lunch.

Happy New Year to All! Thanks so much to all our

families for all of their “behind the scenes” efforts

and donations in preparation of our holiday musical!

We could not have done the show without your extra

love and support to costumes, props, and line mem-

orization. You made all of First Grade shine!

New math packets for third quarter will be sent home with your child’s re-

port card. Please begin studying subtraction and addition facts to 10!

Also, Sight Word List part 3 will be sent home for your child to practice and

instantly recognize without sounding out any of the words.

Thank you for all of your support!

Thank you for all of the craft and party donations before

break. We had a great celebration. We hope you had a

wonderful break with your child, and they had a chance to

rest, regroup, and are ready to come back and work hard

before AzM2 testing. Regular homework will resume this

week. Please make sure you are checking your student’s

homework folder and agenda nightly. After you see your

child has completed homework, please sign their agenda.

Agendas will be checked daily for signatures. AzM2 test-

ing is right around the corner, so please make sure your child is here and on time

every day. We ask that you try not to schedule vacations during school time because

missing one day can influence students greatly. Thank you for all of the support you

give to ensure your child’s success

Happy New Year! In fifth grade, we are full steam ahead working on our science fair projects.

It is exciting to see our students analyze real data to notice patterns that drive excellent

questions. We are beginning a new module in reading that focuses on different forms of art!

Encourage your child to identify different types of art in the community or at home. Share

with them your positive experiences with art as well. In math, we are going strong as we

learn how to graph, make tables, and find the area of shapes. We appreciate your support at

home!

As we jump into the new quarter, we are excited to see our students' growth. Having your

child read at home and practice their math facts truly makes a difference. We are also look-

ing forward to students showing more and more responsibility as we begin to prepare them

for sixth grade. Encourage them to do more on their own and be responsible for bigger and

better things. As always, thank you to all of you that continue to support not only your stu-

dent, but us as well.

Thank you to all our fourth grade families for their support to us and their children during the first semester. We appreciate your willingness to work with your child on weekly spelling tests as well as memorizing those math facts. Thank you parents for checking your child’s planner on a daily basis. This is a great way to see what assignments your child needs to do each day, as well as a communication tool between home and school.

In math, we are finishing unit 5, which focuses on adding and subtracting large numbers. Students have been learning different strategies and working on really understanding the US standard algorithm. In reading, we are start-ing Module 6, which focuses on Earth's Natural Wonders. Students will work on iden-tifying and understanding different types of figurative language as well as continuing to develop good comprehension strategies. We look forward to a great second se-mester with your student.

had a restful break and are ready to continue working hard during the 3rd

quarter.

Don’t forget our engineering projects are due January 31st, and the Science Fair is

February 6th. **The students were told that they are able to hand write the papers to

put on their science boards. They do not need the use of a computer.

We will begin reading The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle for third quarter lit stud-

ies. In addition to the literature we will be reading in class this quarter, the students will

be working on another book of their choice at home. They will use this for their Read-

ing Log, and will have a book project due at the end of 5 weeks.

Welcome back!
