IO-Link : standard communication (IEC 61131-9) for sensors and actuators

http://www.io-link.com/share/Downloads/At-a-glance/IO-Link_System_Description_engl_2013.pdf

• IO-Link is a serial, bidirectional point-to-point connection for signal transmission and energy supply under any networks, fieldbuses, or backplane buses. IO-Link is not a field bus.

• Powerful point-to-point communication based on established 3/5 wire sensor and actuator/drive connection without additional requirements regarding the cable material.

IO Link enables data communication from the field device to ERP system

Festo IO–Link advantages:• Cost effective, field device connection:• Pre-engineered mechatronics systems – OMS (Optimized Motion Series)• Scalable system: flexibility on device management• 3-5 wire cable, unshielded, M12 connector for fast and reliable connection

point• Bidirectional data transmission• IoT (Internet of Things), Industry 4.0 ready• ADP (Automatic Device Configuration): parameter storage in upper controller• Field device replacement with no commissioning: “plug and play”.• Data reporting (remote diagnose, alarms, trips) allows for easy

troubleshooting• Standardized field device connection technology• Adopted by all major Automation suppliers• Master IO Link Compatible with all major Bus communication

Important IO-Link Basics: NOT a fieldbus Requires an IO-Link

IO Link application advantage example on Rockwell environment:

• 25 conductors

• no diagnostics

• 5 conductors

• diagnostics

Customers who only specify Rockwell I/O will typically use MP valve terminals:• High termination costs• High cable costs• No diagnostics

Same customers can use IO-Link valve terminals:• Low termination costs• Low cable costs• Diagnostics• Automatic

• Amount of ports for IO-Link devices: 2 (X1 & X2)

• Port type B, US1/US2 isolated

• Only available with EtherNet/IP (CPX-FB36R12), PROFINET & Sercos

Compatible to Siemens function block IOL-CALL

• Product description: CPX-CTEL-2-M12-5POL-LK

• Part number: TN2900543

• No compliance with standards to IO-Link masters Therefore it is called I-Port-Master for IO-Link devices

The Festo I-Port interface is supported by different network or automation systems as for example the CPX-CTEL installation system. The valve terminal is always the same.
