Chemical Price Commentary

• Herbicide and Insecticide tables above indicate price trends for international chemicals. The percentage change in prices indicate a year-on-year movement and we can see that both herbicides and insecticide prices are mostly trending towards an increase between Sept 2016 and Sept 2017.

• The Rand value chemical prices for insecticides and herbicides indicate merely a trend of international prices and do not reflect the physical local price of chemicals. Rand value price changes indicate the effect that the exchange rate has on input prices. A stronger exchange rate tends to ease the local prices of imported chemicals whereas a weaker exchange rate tends to increase the price of imported chemicals.
