In addition, medical research is confirming the healing potential of music – how music effectively provides relieve from ailments of body and soul. CMU Our year-round programs:

• Elementary Strings, after-school group lessons of various levels in Mammoth, Bishop and Lee Vining for ages 5-15

• Honors String Orchestra, for intermediate to advanced players ages 10-18, with at least three

years of experience

• Individual lessons for string players

• Eastern Sierra Chamber Orchestra at Cerro Coso College

• Music Appreciation, History of Jazz and History of Popular Music at Cerro Coso College

During the summer:• Sierra Academy of Music (SAM) for promising string players and pianists, ages 16-24

Turning TidesFrom UCLA to Mammoth comes the swell “Luna y Mar”, a 2012 trio composition by the young composer Adam (not Arnold…) Schoenberg. Full of “mystery and sensuality” (The New

York Times), Schoenberg’s music embraces both warm tonality and gentle chromaticism and has been heralded as “open, bold, and optimistic” (Atlanta Journal-Constitution).

Deep Impact…honors the memory of Viennese composer Marcel Tyberg, who perished in Auschwitz in 1944, with a performance of his only piano trio. Re-introduced to the musical community in 2005, Tyberg’s compositions range from popular dances to profound art music.
