What impact does media ownership have upon the range of products available to audiences in the media area you have studied?


• Planning was missing in most cases and this was evident in the writing by those students – no clear structure and lost sight of the question.

• Confusion over the term ‘media ownership’ and what it means.



• For a few students, the opening paragraph was in no way relating to the original question. This immediately sends you down the wrong path.

• Many people discussed how Time Warner can use CNN to promote the film, but do you know if they actually did?! You need to do this research yourself!

The relationship between these companies (especially large conglomerates) can have a great impact on a film.

You should be looking at how the relationship between subsidiaries in Time Warner has a positive and negative effect on ‘Pacific Rim’ and the how being a small independent (with financial support from larger institutions like the BFI and Film 4) benefits and hinders an independent.
