2010 INTERNATIONAL FIESTA in celebration of the 20th anniversary

Saturday, March 27 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM

MSU Drill Field (Rain location: East side of Davis Wade Stadium)

Enjoy international events, dance, music, songs, various ethnic food and display booths, and at the same time you may earn a patch and/or badge. There will also be Children’s

Games for youths and the young at heart.

Who can participate? We invite all level of Girl/Boy/Cub Scouts to participate in the parade of international

flags during the opening ceremony.

This is a great opportunity for any troops to earn badges.

Troop leaders, parents/guardians or adult volunteers must accompany their scouts. For Girl Scouts, the international troop (Troop 20653) will provide your troop with sheet

of requirements for “People of the World” try-it (Brownie) and “World Neighbors” badge (Junior).

Each troop will need to provide their own badges/patches.

Cadettes, Seniors, Ambassadors: you may earn service hours by assisting International Children’s Games.

What is the cost?

There is no cost to attend. However, you will need to bring spending money to purchase tickets for playing games and trying out international food - some of this are

part of the try-it or badge requirements.

What to wear? Scouts uniform is preferred (especially if you plan to participate in the flag parade)

or Scouts T-shirt

Do I need to register? You do not need to register to participate.

However, it would be great if you let me know you plan on coming and also, for those who would like to volunteer to earn service hours, please contact me.

Email [email protected] by March 25 with the following info: Your troop #, troop leader’s name, number of girls/boys plan to participate,

and their level.

1. Annual Meeting - Service Units! Please appoint a minimum of 2 representatives to attend the Annual Meeting on April 24th at 1:00pm at The Orchard in Tupelo, MS, and submit the names to your Membership Manager by April 2nd. Membership Managers will report these names to a dedicated council staff person yet to be determined. Join Girl Scouts Heart of the South as we recognize girl achievements, honor our volunteers, and vote on council business. The Annual Meeting is a vital part of the council’s operation. Because of the importance of volunteer participation, Girl Scouts Heart of the South is offering a one-time mini-grant opportunity to Service Units. A mini-grant of $250 will be awarded to the Service Unit with the highest percentage of membership attending the annual meeting (qualifying age is 14 years, as set forth in the council by-laws). An additional mini-grant of $250 will be awarded to the Service Unit with the largest number of members attending (qualifying age is 14 years, as set forth in the council by-laws). The mini-grants must be used by the winning Service Units to fund a local community service project and reporting back to the council will be required. 2. Annual Meeting Transportation – For those interested in utilizing a Chartered Bus for transportation to the Annual Meeting, the council will pay for one bus from Memphis, TN, Jackson, TN and Greenwood, MS. A minimum of 25 people is required for each bus location. The maximum number of people will vary based on bus occupancy. To sign up for bus transportation, please follow the Event Registration Procedures and indicate which city you will be traveling from for the Annual Meeting. 3. Service Unit PR – GSHS appreciates local contacts within the Service Units who submit Girl Scout happenings and stories to their local newspapers. These articles help show the importance and fun of Girl Scouting! If your Service Unit would like to submit local information to your local newspaper, please send your information to your Membership Manager for proofing prior to submission to the paper. We are working to provide consistent messages throughout our jurisdiction and appreciate your help in this effort. Membership Managers – You will submit these articles and information to [email protected] for approval, and a big THANK YOU to those of you who already do this regularly! Service Unit PR Managers - GSHS is also looking for Service Unit Public Relations Managers for our coverage area. The Service Unit Public Relations Manager will be responsible for submitting local troop activities and information to local newspapers. Prior to submission to media outlets, the Service Unit Public Relations Manager will send the articles to their Membership Manager for proofing. The Service Unit Public Relations Manager will be the go to person for local troops to get their information published. If you are interested in becoming a Service Unit PR Manager, please send an email stating your desire along with your name, contact information, service unit, and service unit manager’s name to [email protected]. If you already act as Service Unit PR Manager, please send me an email as well. All emails must be received by close of business March 19, 2010.
