QUESTION: Being a school board representative for MPS, what are some roles you have to take on to help with the development of schools in the District 4 area? RESPONSE: Some roles that I take on as one of the members on the MPS Board of Directors, are to make important budget decisions, visit school, community, and board meetings, pass new policy regulations, bring forth ideas on how to improve MPS, and lastly, vote on a superintendent to run Milwaukee Public Schools. QUESTION: What are some problems that schools located in District 4 face? RESPONSE: Some problems that we face are not only happening in District 4, but many other districts. We are facing problems such as school closings, poor attendance, and low academic performance.

A Poem by Alexander Townsend

A Gift From Heaven A gift from heaven

I prayed from above, That one day I will find

My own true love. A flower so beautiful You’re one of a kind;

A love so pure Most will never find. A gift from heaven

You are to me, Someone to love

And to make happy.

A Poem by Adreiona Mitchell

People They speak so fluent,

You become avancious, They make you so egotistical,

Then expectorate on your hopes and dreams,

‘Til they become so fragile

Teenagers are also brain- washed into thinking that violence is the only way to solve a problem.

We as humans are becoming more and more disoriented because of the entertainment industry. This is affecting the unemployment rates, and the rates of crime.

Another problem in society that I want to address is the mainstream news. In my opinion, they are not giving

Dear Editor,

As the years pass, the enter-tainment industry tends to progressively become worse. The music videos that are shown and the music that is played is mind altering and is affecting our younger generation. The media has kids believing that they should smoke drugs and drink alcohol, which poses another problem in Wisconsin today.

as much information as they should. Most of the subjects reporters talk about are irrelevant.

They are card stacking, which is telling some of the upright information, but leaving the corrupt out. In conclusion, we need our entertainment industry to be cleaner, and more appropriate.

Short Story by Felyne It’s my 17th birthday and as much as I already know I won’t receive many gifts, but I have to be thankful for what I have. My friends are like family to me, love is a tool used by certain people, and my life is an unforgivable mistake. I also understand it’s my fate and destiny to carry on my life.

AROUND NORTH TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK? BY: LAKIA THOMAS

Question: How would you improve the lunch program here at north ? Answer: I would improve the lunch program by having a different variety of foods for the students and start open lunches for juniors and seniors.

-Tamia

Question: Do you think North should have snack machines? What kind? Why? Answer: I believe that North Division High School needs a snack machine with different variety of snacks in them so kids won't have to leave school or complain about the lunches. Students could just go to the machines instead of having all the commotion over food. -Desmond

Question: What classes would you like to see offered that are not offered here at North? Answer: I think North Division should have a cooking class and also more art classes like ceramics because these are lifelong skills. -Precious

Question: What do you think about the new grading system? Explain? Answer: The new grading system is good because it makes us feel less worried about our grade, and if we get a “Basic” we just see it as a mistake so we hurry up and fix it to get us an “Advanced” or “Proficient.” The letter grades made many kids feel like there was no reason to try. -Tia
