    Building Stronger

MARRIAGESby Matt Giebler l Senior Minister

February is amonth o mixedeelings. I youre

love and a romantic at heart, its anciting time. I youre without thatecial someone in your lie, you maysh or the month to pass quickly. Iure a orist or a chocolatier, youobably look orward to some great

usiness. I youre married and youre aeapskate, youre in a world o hurt.

ur February message series, I Stillo, will ocus not on the ckle eelingsat inspire pop songs and romanticmedies, but on the biblical purpose

d importance o marriage. Theseys, some want to attack biblical man-oman marriage as narrow-mindedd discriminatory toward those whode to dene this relationship in someher way. Some ridicule marriage asquaint, outdated institution. Ande regularly see celebrity couplesend vast sums o money on lavish, tentatious weddings with little i anyparent regard or what it takes toake a marriage work.

    ut whether youre a young personr whom marriage seems a arawaynsideration; an engaged personactive wedding-planning mode;

newlywed still adjusting to beingl o a couple; a spouse o severalars eeling twinges o domestic

oredom; a veteran o decadesmarriage; a lielong single; ormeone still hurting rom a divorce;is union called marriagethe rst

umanity. When handled accordingGods instructions, marriageserge lives, meld amilies, and buildgacies. By the same token, when wesunderstand or mishandle marriage,

    e experienceand expose otherssignicant hurt.

Whatever your marital status, I hopeyoull join us or this series. Marriagerelationships experience attack rom

many angles, so having support romboth biological and spiritual amilies isa huge blessing to any couple.

Please note two great marriage-enhancing opportunities that are justaround the corner:

On Friday, February 10, join us orthe Ultimate Date Night, whichwill combine a delicious cateredmeal, an excellent Christian lm,and some great company.

On Saturday, March 10, wellhost a 9:00 AM-4:00 PM seminarcalled The Choice or Marriagesponsored by MarriageInvestors. See page 2 or moreinormation and visit http://www.marriageinvestors.org.

One o the most important ways we goDEEP as a church is by building strongamilies. And it takes strong marriagesto build strong amilies. Continualwork on our own marriages, andsupport o others, is one o the bestinvestments we can make in showingthe love o Jesus to those who comebehind us, and to our world. I wontnaively suggest that marriage is easy, but I will go on record in stating that itsincredibly important, and that I hopeyoull join me in encouraging, building, and praying or Christ-centeredmarriages.

God is working here!A seed was planted long ago when Rod and Carol Hervey had a passion to work with the kids at FriendlyVillage Mobile Home Park. What started as a bible study and tutoring session a couple o years ago with twoor three kids has grown into a group o 25. Some o these kids worked on the Kids Give Back Project lastspring. Lately, the kids bibles were in need o replacing. Through Annette Rawlinsons request to Operation

Care, new NIV teen study bibles were purchased as gits or all o the kids. This week a thank you note came tus:

Dear Operation Care, Just want to once again thank you so much for providing the brand new bibles for the teens who live in FriendlyVillage. I hope you will feel their excitement and appreciation as you read their favorite verses that they wrote for

you at last weeks study. Thank you so very much for sharing Gods word with the youth in our community. May yo

all be greatly blessed by the Lord for your faithfulness in making HIS GLORY known to these teens. In His love, LorrieGray, Rod and Carol Hervey, Chet Casper and Steve Clodfelter

You donating the bibles to our group means a lot to me. I know it sounds cheesy, but I truly mean it when Ithank you form the bottom of my heart. Im in love with the story of Mark 5:1-20 where demons are driven out by

    the Master. Thank you! Desiree

My verse is Romans 2:1 I am thankful for the bible you gave me and have it tabbed already. I hope that thetabs help me get to verses faster. Thank you. Beth

My verse is Jeremiah 29:11 Thank you for just your little bit that literally changed my life for the better.

    Acts of Worship

TEACHINGby Eric Radecki l Worship Minister

And they devotedthemselves to theapostles teaching

nd the fellowship, to the breaking of

ead and the prayers. And awe camepon every soul, and many wondersnd signs were being done through thepostles. And all who believed weregether and had all things in common.

nd they were selling their possessionsnd belongings and distributing theoceeds to all, as any had need. And

ay by day, attending the templegether and breaking bread in their

omes, they received their food withad and generous hearts, praising God

nd having favor with all the people.nd the Lord added to their number dayy day those who were being saved.

    Acts 2:42-47 ESV

Teaching. We are continuing nowth the second direction o worship.e rst direction that I covered lastonth,gGathering, has to do with ourtrance into the ellowship togetherd coming beore God. Next,

Teaching, or as its sometimes called,e Service o the Word, has to do with

    ods communication to us.

ith Gods Word, the emphasis isn hearing rom God, not learningbout God. As Constance Cherryys, The Word is inormational inture (providing knowledge o

ods will and instruction in mattersated to the Kingdom o God), buts ormational in purpose (useulr reproo, correction, training in

ghteousness). Indeed, instructionmportant, but in the context o

orship, listening to the Word romod and allowing it to shape us ishat the teaching is about.

These may seem obvious, but acts othe Word in worship include:

Preaching Songs we sing Scripture or

Scriptural themes set to music Scriptures read corporately and

    aloud Simple readings or dramatic

readings o Scripture Visual representations o

    Scripture (on screens, etc.)

The Acts 2 passage gives us a glimpseo the early Christians who wereattentive to Gods Word (i.e. theapostles teaching). This was maniestin the way they lived out their lives:many wonders and signs, selling theirpossessions, giving to the needy, gladand generous hearts, praising God,avored by outsiders, grew in number. How do you see these acts o worshiprepresented in this second direction oour worship,iTeaching? As a result oour interaction with the Word?

The Scriptures are God addressing usthrough the Word, not us addressing

the Word, lest we be impressed withour skill in handling Gods Word. The Word will always aect us, ourbehavior and attitudes, i we allow itto do so. Thereore, the next directiono worship we shall discuss, drawnrom Acts 2 will be,h Responding.

I am posting these articles, not only in the New

Spirit, but on my blog (www.erictunes.blogspot.
