Are You Too Comfortable for Your Own Good?By Shihan Craig Haley

E veryone I talked to wants 2014 to be their best year ever. They have high goals and aspirations to grow to a new level in every regard...business, health and fitness,

finances, relationships, etc.

However, for any of one us to grow to the next level, we have to become a different person. We have to become more knowledgeable, more skilled, and better organized to jump to where we want to be. It seems simple on paper, but reaching for success isn’t always easy.

What holds most people back from taking the necessary actions to achieve their goals and dreams? The answer is what I like to call “FUD’s” or fears, uncertainties and doubts. We all have them. If you say you don’t, then you probably lie about other things too!

So, how do we push past our fears, uncertainties, and doubts? We have to get comfortable at being uncomfortable. In other words, we have to embrace being out of our comfort zone and enjoying the excitement of overcoming obstacles and challenges.

The formula for losing weight is simple...eat less and ex-ercise more. If getting thin truly is that easy, why is a big percentage of our population overweight or obese? The reason is that we’re all uncomfortable with being disciplined. It’s hard to make the right food choices when other people are eating and drinking junk. It’s hard to exercise when you are tired and have had a long day at work.

Being comfortable at being uncomfortable is a mindset for success. It’s looking at these changes in attitude and actions with enthusiasm and pride. It’s understanding that when you

are uncomfortable, you are growing and becoming more of the person you want to be.

By running a little farther at a little faster pace, by getting up 30 minutes earlier to study and plan out your day, by reading for 30 minutes instead of watching television, you embrace being uncomfortable in the moment. As a result, you can receive the rewards of health, wealth and happiness in the future.

Don’t wait around for circumstances to get better — to have more time or money or for someone to come along and get you going. What if they don’t show up?

Action creates motivation! Be willing to push past the tem-porary discomfort and fatigue. When you do, you will begin traveling down the road of prosperity and abundance...and you deserve that!

5 to ThriveBy: Coach Mark Moore

The human body and spirit can be very complicated in the way it works and operates. Fortunately it is very simple to give it what it needs to be at its best every day in every way! Listed below are 5 suggestions that will help you live and lead a positive, healthy, and fit Black Belt life.

1. WATER: The human body is a water machine‚ designed primarily to run on water and minerals. Every life giving and healing process that happens inside our body... happens with water. How much water? Half your body weight in ounces is the recommended dose for a peak performer. So drink up to go up champions:)

2. OXYGEN: Every day you train is a great day, which is why we train everyday! Oxygen (O2) is one of the most important elements required to sustain life. Without it, our health be-gins to suffer and/or we die. Your breathing will become full of life and energy the more you workout.

3. NUTRITION: Like a finely-tuned racing car, your body needs the right fuel (food) and regular maintenance (exer-cise, lifestyle and mental attitude) to achieve its true health potential. Nothing is more important than healthy eating!

Put in the wrong fuel or let it go without regular use and there’s no way it can deliver its full power and performance. Without healthy eating, your body’s engine will cough, splut-ter and eventually stall.

4. GOOD STUFF IN, GOOD STUFF OUT: Your mind is the most powerful tool to help you not only survive but thrive in life. Like exercising your body to get stronger you also need to do the same for your mind. What ever you focus on you will feel. It is vital to your continued success to focus on inspiration, motivation, and continued knowledge to keep you on a quest to be your best!

5. ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE: • People who keep gratitude journals on a weekly basis

have been found to exercise more regularly, have few-er physical symptoms, feel better about their lives as a whole, and feel more optimistic about their upcoming week as compared to those who keep journals recording the stressors or neutral events of their lives.

• Daily discussion of gratitude results in higher reported lev-els of alertness, enthusiasm, determination, attentiveness, energy, and sleep duration and quality. Grateful people also report lower levels of depression and stress, although they do not deny or ignore the negative aspects of life.

• People who think about, talk about, or write about grati-tude daily are more likely to report having helped someone with a personal problem or offered emotional support to another person.

• Those with a disposition towards gratitude are found to place less importance on material goods, are less likely to judge their own or others success in terms of possessions accumulated, are less envious of wealthy people, and are more likely to share their possessions with others.

• Emerging research suggests that daily gratitude practices may have some preventative benefits in warding of coro-nary artery disease.

Massive Action = Massive ResultsBy Shihan Craig Haley

Over the last couple weeks we have talked about how to prop-erly set a goal and map out a plan. Our plan is on paper and we know not only what to do, but also why we want the goal.

Now it’s time for massive action! Massive action leads to massive results. The law of dominant thought says that you become what you think about. If your goal is on your mind and you have a vision of what you want now it’s time to take action...and lots of it!

If your goal is to lose weight, then do something everyday to move you closer. That could be attending your martial arts class, doing the workout of the day at home, going for a run, stretching, or practicing at home.

It could also be searching for healthy recipes on the internet. It could be reading a good book on health and fitness. It could be subscribing to a fitness magazine. If your goal is to grow your business to the next level you could read a book on staff development or sales. You could talk to someone successful in your industry that could give you some advice.

Taking action everyday creates momentum. When you have momentum, the actions become easier and faster.

I see this all the time with black belt candidates in the begin-ning of the 6 month black belt cycle. The ones that start tak-ing action right away always build momentum and in most cases, are the strongest ones in the cycle. They are attending class, doing their out of class conditioning, have their materi-al down, and have the best energy in class. In a nutshell, they have their “Dojo Mojo”!

Why? Because they started taking massive action right away!

We are in week #3 of the lean and mean challenge. What actions are you going to take everyday? How are you going to build momentum and make this your best year ever?

Goals We Set are Goals We Get!By Shihan Craig Haley

Goal-setting is a fundamental skill that all high level achievers need to take themselves to the next level. As Yogi Berra said, “If you don’t know where you are going, you might wind up someplace else.”

Most people never achieve their goals because they haven’t taken the time to be specific about what they want and why they want it. The wonder through life taking action with no real purpose or plan.

Our goal is to help everyone create some very clear goals inside and outside of the dojo so you become a balanced achiever. As Master Greg Silva says, “It’s all about balance.”

We all know people that set New Years resolutions. The chal-lenge with a resolution is it is a “pie in the sky” thought that is not well thought out. Most people have New Years resolutions because everyone else does. Did you know that less than 4% of all New Years resolutions actually come true?

Here are some tips to start you on the right track to goal-set-ting and goal-getting:

1. Decide exactly what you want. Be specific! What rank do you want to achieve? How much weight do you want to lose? How much money do you want to earn this year?

2. Write it down! Did you know that less than 3% of all adults have written goals? By writing a goal down it activates your internal hard drive and your subconscious mind will go to work all day and night to help you achieve your goal.

3. Set a deadline. This will create a positive sense of urgency for you to take action and start moving in the right direction.

Let’s team up and make 2014 our best year ever!
