Welcome

Dear FKC Colleagues,

The Florida Kindergarten Council’s Board of Directors warmly welcomes you to the convention! We are thrilled you have joined us in Orlando to enliven this year’s theme, Celebrating Creative Spaces. Thank you for being part of this professional development journey as we learn with and from on another. We have no doubt that you will walk away with innovative ideas shared by our member schools on how to use developmentally appropriate environments to provide opportunities for children to explore, design, and invent. We hope last evening’s Meet and Greet was a time to step back and become acquainted with FKC Board members and Florida’s outstanding educators and administrators from our member schools. Our Board continuously seeks opportunities to serve your and your school’s needs, so please be sure to bring any question, concern or idea to any of our Board members. The Florida Kindergarten Council shares in your mission of preserving childhood. We will continue to honor our children for their potential as learners and celebrate them for their originality. In doing so, we must ensure that their learning spaces, whether they are on the playground, outdoors surrounded by nature, or in their classrooms, will promote Investigations, creativity, and innovation. The Florida Kindergarten Council invites you to immerse yourselves in creativity, and call upon your commitment, along with the thousands of collegues in the state, to look outwardly to identify, prepare and Cele-brate Creative Spaces. Sincerely, Arvi Balseiro, Ana Ibanez, and Shari Wladis

Designing the Conditions for Wonder and Creativity

Inspired by Reggio Emilia's view of the 'learning environment' as the 'third teacher' in a student's life, we will explore how we can purposefully design the conditions to help all learners (and teach-ers) live a life of wonder and creativity at school. This session will focus on a 21st Century human-centered design process that in-spires both compelling physical architecture of learning environ-ments and the development of a ubiquitous teaching and learning culture of empathy, collaboration, and innovation.
