NOTTS SO SPORTY?

WRITTEN BY, DANIEL WALDRAM

Are you from Nottingham? Do you

have an interest in sports? Do you

know many sports that Nottingham is

represented in? Do you support any?

Well, I am writing this article to ad-

dress these issues.

There are many sports teams in Not-

tingham but not all of them are so

keenly supported. Nottingham is repre-

sented in Football, Rugby, Cricket, Ice

Hockey and Basketball and many other

less supported sports, I personally am a

fan of each team but I particularly sup-

port Nottingham Forest.

In football, Nottingham has 3 main

teams Nottingham Forest, Notts

County and Mansfield Town. All 3 of

these teams have tasted success in re-

cent years but unfortunately all 3 have

tasted bitter defeat.

Nottingham Forest has gone to the play

-offs in the last two years and both

times were considered as favourites by

many but both times failed to even get

to the final, now after a change of man-

agement and the owner now unwilling

to give Forest transfer funds things

look very grim, they are now at the foot

of the table and many fans cannot see a

way that they can possibly stay in this

league, I think that Nottingham Forest

will be able to avoid the drop but only

if they are able to get their tactics right.

This season they have an average atten-

dance of 22,079, a drop of nearly 2,000

fans from last year.

But, on the other side of the Trent,

Notts County have recently gained pro-

motion from the fourth tier back to the

third and last year they were struggling

for much of the season, but now they

are right at the top of the table and they

are now looking to gain promotion

again to take themselves into the cham-

pionship and their future is looking

very bright, I would love Notts County

to get promoted this season, I think that

it’ll attract much interest from everyone

in Nottingham and it will be a great

occasion for all fans involved this sea-

son they have an average attendance

of, this season they have an average

attendance of 6,422.

Mansfield has taken the lowest blow

of all three by being relegated out of

the league and is now just another mid

-table team who don’t look to be going

anywhere anytime soon.

In Rugby, Nottingham Rugby team

are currently 7th out of 12 in the sec-

ond league. They used to be a very

good team but recent years have seen

a decline in their performances and

they have fell very heavily down the

league, but recently they have been

making a push to once again become a

very respectable team.

In cricket, we have Notts Outlaws;

they have become a much better team

in recent years and after winning pro-

motion into league one and they then

won the first division title.

In ice hockey, we have Nottingham

Panthers who are getting many plau-

dits recently as last year they won the

playoffs and the challenge cup, this

year they are planning to win both

those competitions and win the league.

It seems that every Nottingham sports

team has had a rollercoaster ride in

recent years as they all have had suc-

cess but all have tasted defeat. But,

that is a part of sport and that is what

makes all these sports so exciting. So,

get down there and support your local

teams. It’s like being at a theme park

because you’re in for a hell of a ride!

If your interested in joining a local

team, they are always on the lookout

for new people. Just like west Bridg-
