Personal Development Dealing With Depression and Anxiety Are you living with depression or anxiety? If so, coming to a workshop can be hard. To deal with depression and/or anxiety is to recognize that fact and work with it. This workshop believes that changing patterns, whether recent or long-term, comes by facing and accepting our experience, listening to the experiences of others and learning from a variety of sources. We can all learn and learning brings hope. During the six weeks, we will first look at depression and anxiety separately and then identify how they may be related. The goal throughout is to explore strategies. What works and what does not and how do we access the energy to take risks and to practice new ways? This is particularly difficult for those living with depression. Change is never easy but you are not alone. Many have gone before and many walk that path today. We can learn by trusting ourselves and by looking to others. (In partnership with Alberta Parenting for the Future Association apfa)

Ongoing Programs

FCSS Grant Funding Program The Stony Plain FCSS program has supported community organizations with grant funding since its beginning in 1989. Helping to fund community organizations that fill in gaps in support services, has been an important goal of the Stony Plain FCSS program and is a strong community development component of our services. Grant funding available varies each budget year. The variance is dependent upon the number of group requests received and dollars available within the budget year. Organizations are required to submit applications for funding in the Fall that are allocated in the next budget year. FCSS Board members then review, approve and/or decline applications based on a funding criteria check list. Organizations are required to submit a final report at the end of the project/program to include a financial statement and a summary of the success of the program to determine Grant effectiveness.

Funding criteria and applications are available on-line at www.stonyplain.com/fcss or at the Town office

(2nd Floor, FCSS).

The Volunteer Centre serves two clients - primarily those seeking volunteer opportunities so they can make an impact on issues concerning them, and second, agencies needing the support of volunteers to enhance, support or deliver agency programs. Potential volunteers approach the Volunteer Centre for help in connecting with available volunteer opportunities. Many are unaware of the selection of the organizations that would benefit from their support and the variety of opportunities available to them. The Volunteer Centre provides a central point of access to the volunteer community by bringing together people and community needs. Agencies contact us when they need help to find volunteer support, or are approached by us to become a referral agency. Once a position listing is received by the Volunteer Centre, volunteers are recruited through local newspaper advertisements, posters or govolunteer.ca. Community Volunteer Income Tax Program in partnership with Stony Plain FCSS Stony Plain FCSS offers a free income tax preparation service with the assistance of trained volunteers. A drop-off service is also available. Volunteer Opportunities Advertising A Volunteer Opportunities publication is updated and advertised monthly. Referral Services If you are interested in volunteering contact our Volunteer Services Coordinator, Dianne Dube at 780-963-8603 to help match you to a position suited to your interests.
