Visual Displays from Free People & Anthropologie
I have always loved the store and window displays of anthropology and free people. They are
welcoming and creative. They use their clothes in interaction with their models. They change the
themes seasonly and every time I walk into a store I feel happy and like I can smell scented candles.
Examples of their displays could be vintage tennis rackets as jewelry organizers and ceiling sculptures
of colorful dining chairs. Anthropologie often used these whimsical elements in their stores. The
director of display at Anthropologie says " Whatever we do, at the core we hope to surprise and
inspire. The bohemian looks definitely does the trick. They love to explore to find their materials. They
thrift and use vintage materials. A lot of the stuff that goes into their displays are very DIY. They play
around with displays and concepts for a dreamlike and childlike feel. One thing I found out is that they
use a specific color palette. "We've looked at how the intensity, tone and value of a color can make all
the difference," says Sorgule. "We've played with color blocking, color tension and the emotions that
color can evoke." Their color palette does not control the displays but takes a relaxed back seat to the
eye catching creativity. For example, they used belts to hang from a clothing rack to make better use of
space. It looks cool too! One of my friends actually had an internship for her interior design major
helping with their design process. I think that would be a really, really cool job. My friends and I went
to a work shop there to make ornaments. They do cool stuff like this to show others their process.

Free People uses strings of fabrics and flowers as ceiling decor.
The cups on the wall create interesting wall art and could also act as storage for trinkets at Anthropologie.
This Bohemian bed at Anthropologie has a canopy made out of sampled color swatches.
Beautiful Holiday Display
At one store, Anthrpologie created a geometric dome inside the store, where they staged a bedroom setup.
