• The Castle of Giove is in the historic centre of the town of Giove, in the Amerino district. It is a private property made up of a large complex of 4,700 square metres spread over 5 floors. The Castle of Giove or Doge's Palace was built for the will of the Marquis Mattei on a previous fortress belonged to the Colonna and is a typical example of transformation of a building born for eminently military and defence purposes into a luxurious residence.

The estate covers an area of 4,700 sqm, spread over 5 floors: the 430 sqm basement houses the cellars and storerooms; on the 740 sqm ground floor we find the two major entrance doors, the 180 sq.m. and two-floor high main hall which leads directly to the second floor – bypassing the first – through a large circular ramp which contains a spiral staircase; the 780 sqm first floor houses the dwellings of the caretaker and a series of storerooms; the second floor covers an area of 1436 sqm; through a 245 sqm open porch which, on two sides, goes round a large terrace facing the Tiber valley, you can reach a series of halls and toilets; the Portico leads directly to the courtyard of the primitive fortress; the third floor measures about 890 sqm and the fourth floor about 450 sqm.

The estate is formed by a medieval structure to which new wings were added during the XVII century. Unfinished it was restored by the architect Maderno. The internal halls are mostly painted by Domenichino, but there are also paintings by the Veronese school and the Bolognese and Ferrarese schools, as well as by 'Alfani’. The rooms are enriched by numerous tapestries The building occupies the surface of a terraced hill with steep slopes overlooking the Tiber Valley. The estate can be divided into two parts: the ancient fortress overlooking the Tiber Valley and the more recent Palace built in contact with the town. The old elliptical plan Fortress is dominated by a high tower topped by a crenellated attic. This tower was later incorporated into the new building, acting as a connection and integration element between the two bodies. The most recent building has a square plan with, at the corners, four large towers. The main body spreads over five levels, while the towers rise to six storeys.
